Alternate view of transition work on a new Englert 1300 series mechanically-seamed architectural aluminum roof on this mid-century modern style North Haven residence. After removing the previous flat roof and insulation, we fastened 7.1" of Polyiso (polyisocyanurate) rigid foam insulation panels to the roof decking. We then covered that with a high-temperature Ice and Water Shield underlayment before attaching the standing seam metal, in mansard brown. This job presented numerous protrusion challenges - skylights, venting, chimney stack, as well as a roof transition where we had to maintain the tapered gable ends.

The Deck Rail was crafted out of tube steel and fabricated in the shop and assembled in large sections in the field. The deck facia was cut out of 10ga steel and wrapped around the edge of the porch to give it a finished look. The Driveway retaining wall was fabricated out of 3/8” steel and fastened together. The ¼” deck planter box was fabricated with no bottom so the drip system can drain. All in all this Beautiful Mountain Retreat is a steel workers dream.

We built a new backyard for our customer. Complete with (2) multi level decks, a stamped concrete patio, a retaining wall, with stone pillars. All rails you see are black anodized cables with a composite top cap. All decking is Composite Tiki Torch.

We scrapped this back yard to the dirt. Took out 10 yards of soil to get proper drainage, killed weeds, took out stumps and an old patio. It was a blank canvas. New concrete patio with a sand finish, stuccoed the house, garden boxes, Mangaris wood screens for privacy with all stainless steel posts and fasteners, new plantings with uplights, decomposed granite perimeter, irrigation and drainage all concealed and underground. Once the plants on the property lines grow in this will be a wonderful project. We have a trellis that will install as phase 2 next year some time over the patio.

Aesthetic Value: The Ship’s Ladder gives functional access to the loft area to create co-ed “study” area in this boy’s room. Centered on the loft creating a sense of symmetry. Stair Safety: The loft guardrail at a comfortable 36” height and a continuous rail on each side of the ladder to create a safe and comfortable grasp for the entirety of the climb. Quality of Workmanship: Treads are mortised and tenoned into the stringer to conceal all fasteners. Constructed out of Stain grade White Oak. Technical Challenge: Balancing the exact amount of lean to the rise & run while keeping the graspable rail at a comfortable height.

This is a rear yard landscape in Old Town, Chicago. The major defining element that we designed and build was the Ipe deck. The design and installation of the deck allowed for functional use and unobstructed views out to the landscape. The deck is blind fastened and the railings are stainless steel cable with ipe caps. The fence is completely rebuilt using cedar.. There is a decorative screen next to the planter boxes, which helps to bring down the scale of the neighboring house. The patio is travertine laid in a random pattern, and continues underneath the elevated deck. We added a mexican pebble bed on the edge of the patio which will help show a future sculpture/art piece. A stone walkway at the edge of the patio leads under the canopy of the upright trees, to access to the doorway that is underneath the deck. The landscape consists of two types of ground cover. The inner circle is a lower, purple-leafed, ajuga, and the outer edge is pachysandra. The fence and deck posts have climbing hydrangea planted underneath which will eventually grow to cover the vertical elements.

Finished with western red (knotty) cedar for a rich and wonderful organic look. For the rails we jumped up to 6″ x 6″ post that we put a chamfer edge on, a subtle but beautiful detail. Then we milled the profile for the top and bottom rails. This project included lattice that really dressed this deck up and provided a discrete storage area.

The other project continuing from the Geometric Built In utilizes the reclaimed Ash for sleek modern hand rails and ladders. The clean squared handrail sits on top clear coated flat bar steel all fastened to the wall with our designed steel rail brackets. Up to the landing you will see the integrated ladder which leads to a little nook designated as a music space! On the upper floor the steel and Ash wood design is carried into a second ladder designed for a top bunk of a kids sleeping nook.
