A family of three designed the ideal home to age in place and care for their adult son. Designing a Unique Space For years, the Bronks had a clear idea of what their master suite should look like. Their unique design even began appearing on HGTV shows, much to their amusement. The layout was essential to accommodating their schedules without disturbing each other's sleep. The house is ingeniously split into two units. The main living area features three bedrooms—one serves as Dale's home office, another as his wife's art studio, and the third is their master suite. Connected by a wall, there's a separate 700-square-foot, one-bedroom apartment with its own laundry, kitchen, and living room. This separate apartment is home to their unique needs adult son. "Having a place where he's connected to the family but has his own autonomous space was crucial," Dale explained. The design includes a discreet connecting door for emergencies, promoting his independence while ensuring safety. This is a commercial swimming pool for a very important resort. It has a boomerang shape. In the middle of the boomerang, there is a bridge that connects the lobby with the main living room. The owner wanted to have nice water noise at the entrance, so we installed 4 water spouts on each side of the bridge plus two large water features on the walls at the lobby area. The owner also wanted to have the illusion of the building emerging from the pool. Originally, there wasnt a pool planned for this area. It was a large garden area. There were a lot of electric, water, gas and sewer lines. It was a challenge to remove all these lines in a coordinated way in order to not suspend any service to the resort, which had important occupation during construction. At the end, we were able to provide a modern style swimming pool which blends perfectly with the resort architecture. The available width for the pool was limited, so we decided to provide a zero edge line which helps the pool gaining visual space and gives a very dramatic effect, In order to have an undisturbed water surface, we designed two underwater spas which blend with the rest of the pool and are able to have different temperatures than the rest of the facility.

The back garden is grounded with multiple seating and entertaining areas, enclosed with large perennial beds featuring shades of purples. Each turn around the garden, high lights a different vista or focal point. From the golf course in the distance, water features or bountiful blooms.

When old floor tile started to crack and the cramped tub was uncomfortable due to keeping your knees bent to fit, the clients knew they wanted an update. They are skiers and wanted the luxury of a jetted tub and steam shower to relax & pamper sore muscles. It was important to them to incorporate blue, their favorite color and sleek contemporary fixtures and interesting , one of kind finishes. Featuring chromotherapy, and surrounded by a deck of stunning Italian glass & mirrored floral mosaic tile, the jetted tub grabs your attention. A beautiful oversized contemporary pendant light fixture, featuring 60 hanging swirl crystal pieces and balls from a mirrored canopy, emerges from the ceiling highlighting the Palladian window and tub. The steam shower is surrounded by in relief circular contemporary wall tile. Large cream colored marble floor tile, mosaic floor for the shower and granite bench and counter tops complete the finishes. “His and Hers” Indigo Blue vanities anchor the door. Custom cut mirrors over the door and each vanity are surrounded by millwork that highlights the vanities. Crystal beaded sconces that appear to float on the mirrors complete the design.

Located in an 1890 Wells Fargo stable and warehouse in the Hamilton Park historic district, this intervention focused on creating a personal, comfortable home in an unusually tall loft space. The living room features 45’ high ceilings. The mezzanine level was conceived as a porous, space-making element that allowed pockets of closed storage, open display, and living space to emerge from pushing and pulling the floor plane. The newly cantilevered mezzanine breaks up the immense height of the loft and creates a new TV nook and work space. The outdoor spaces function as an extension of the house and support the family’s casual, sports-oriented lifestyle. The design, for a family of seven, provides spaces for individual privacy and family gatherings. The design challenge was to incorporate a number of sustainable features into the design. The south-facing roof is integrated with a 5-kilowatt photovoltaic system, generating electricity for the home and furnishing emergency backup power. The heating is exclusively radiant with high efficiency boilers partially burning biofuel. Measures taken to produce an efficient building envelope include a drainage plane behind the siding, spray foam insulation, and high performance, insulated window glass.

This is our stunning, modern interpretation of the gabled beach bungalow. The home emerges from the sloped walk street, lifting your eye to the distinct roofline and expansive deck. This transitional home blends a modern aesthetic with a character home in a historic neighborhood of Metro Vancouver. Featuring custom architectural concrete, paving stones, horizontal cedar fencing and siding, backyard metal trellis and a very unique and modern landscape, this home is a perfect space for entertaining.

When a world class sailing champion approached us to design a Newport home for his family, with lodging for his sailing crew, we set out to create a clean, light-filled modern home that would integrate with the natural surroundings of the waterfront property, and respect the character of the historic district. Our approach was to make the marine landscape an integral feature throughout the home. One hundred eighty degree views of the ocean from the top floors are the result of the pinwheel massing. The home is designed as an extension of the curvilinear approach to the property through the woods and reflects the gentle undulating waterline of the adjacent saltwater marsh. Floodplain regulations dictated that the primary occupied spaces be located significantly above grade; accordingly, we designed the first and second floors on a stone “plinth” above a walk-out basement with ample storage for sailing equipment. The curved stone base slopes to grade and houses the shallow entry stair, while the same stone clads the interior’s vertical core to the roof, along which the wood, glass and stainless steel stair ascends to the upper level. One critical programmatic requirement was enough sleeping space for the sailing crew, and informal party spaces for the end of race-day gatherings. The private master suite is situated on one side of the public central volume, giving the homeowners views of approaching visitors. A “bedroom bar,” designed to accommodate a full house of guests, emerges from the other side of the central volume, and serves as a backdrop for the infinity pool and the cove beyond. Also essential to the design process was ecological sensitivity and stewardship. The wetlands of the adjacent saltwater marsh were designed to be restored; an extensive geo-thermal heating and cooling system was implemented; low carbon footprint materials and permeable surfaces were used where possible. Native and non-invasive plant species were utilized in the landscape. The abundance of windows and glass railings maximize views of the landscape, and, in deference to the adjacent bird sanctuary, bird-friendly glazing was used throughout.
