Our inspiration came from 2 great English homes, Stan Hywett, a great Tudor Revival home in Ohio, built for the founder of Goodyear Tires. Also, the Woodbine Mansion, built in 1911 for the son of the Pabst Brewing Company. We were fortunate to purchase three rooms of architectural millwork from the woodbine home, which was originally fabricated by the Huber Company of New York. Upon completion of this project, the architectural salvage comprised 15% of the final quantity of paneling installed. The remainder was custom fabricated by Hull Historical at our shop in Fort Worth, TX and installed at the clients home. The commission, based on historic precedent, constituted antique paneling on the main floor, beamed ceilings and all the doors in the home. The new paneling, including the kitchen cabinetry is made from a combination of new quarter-sawn white oak and antique white oak salvaged from old barns and buildings. All the oak was fumed in an ammonia-filled chamber to produce a cocoa color and deep feel giving the millwork rough character and a timeless look that my client loved. The millwork also served to give the home a hierarchy, with simple paneling combined with board and batten doors downstairs, then more ornate paneling, with carvings on the main floor. Additionally, the main floor features mostly 8 and 10 panel doors. All woodwork was hand-pegged with oak pegs. This beautiful, 1,600 SF duplex three-bedroom, two-bath apartment in the heart of the West Village was originally a diamond in the rough with great potential. The coop is located on a quiet, tree-lined street and, as a top floor unit, boasts lovely southern and eastern exposures with views of this charming neighborhood overlooking the Hudson. Our clients were making a big move from the West Coast and wanted the new home to be ready in time for the start of the new school year, so Studioteka’s architecture and interior design team rolled up our sleeves and got to work! Construction documents were prepared for the coop board and NYC Department of Buildings approval and our team coordinated the renovation. The entire unit had new hardwood flooring, moldings, and doors installed, the stairs were gently refinished, and we took down a wall separating the living room from a small den on the lower level, making the living space much more open, light-filled, and inviting. The hot water heater was tucked away in an unused space under the stair landing, allowing for the creation of a new kitchen pantry with additional storage. We gut-renovated the upstairs bathroom, creating a built-in shower niche as well as a brand new Duravit tub, Mirabelle high-efficiency toilet, American Standard matte black fixtures, and a white Strasser Woodenworks vanity with black hardware. Classic white subway tile lines the walls and shower enclosure, while black and white basketweave tile is used on the floor. The matte black towel hooks, toilet roll holder, and towel rod contrast with the white wall tile, and a shower curtain with a delicate black and white pattern completes the room. Finally, new mid-century modern furnishings were combined with existing pieces to create an apartment that is both a joy to come home to and a warm, inviting urban oasis for this family of four.

This new 2500 square foot, 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom home in Los Altos, California had been a typical 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom 1970s tract house. The old house was torn down to the studs, ceilings were vaulted, and a 500 square foot addition provided a new bedroom, bathroom, large laundry room, and mudroom. With gourmet appliances, custom cabinetry, and skylights as well as an integrated audio and video system, this home features amenities and fine finishes often found in more luxurious homes. The homeowner selected Eldorado Stone's Mesquite Cliffstone wainscot as a prelude to the quality of materials and workmanship inside. Our client was particularly impressed by the natural look of Eldorado Stone with its variation in colors and stone shapes. This beautiful cultured stone easily harmonized with the natural stone walkway and the interlocking paver driveway. Upon installation, the mason sorted through the stones and reserved the best-looking ones for the front of the home and the more visible of the two chimneys. To emphasize a country look, the stone was installed with wider grout lines than on a typical installation. Finally, a new custom mailbox on the curbside was enveloped with matching Eldorado Stone. For this paver patio project, we used Belgard’s Dimensions 18 new paver in Napoli color. The patio is roughly 700 sq ft. Belgard’s Melville wall block was used to build the raised planter and outdoor kitchen. We added Belgard’s Moduline paver to elevate the area by adding design to the circle. This poolside fireplace project included the installation of multiple natural boulder retaining walls around the property. The upper walls are approximately 24″ tall, with the lower wall to be 30″-48″ tall to create level area for the pool and pool decking. This project also included rough grading of pool deck area and surrounding areas in preparation for excavation. We then constructed a custom built outdoor fireplace. The poolside fireplace has a 36″ opening and is approximately 10′ tall and about 10′ wide including wood boxes. Wood storage boxes on each side are approximately 18″ deep hearth in front of unit. Fireplace and wood boxes are raised about 18″ above patio height. 8′ long sitting walls were installed on each side approximately 18″ high. Walls, hearth, wood boxes, and top all capped with 2″ thermal Flagstone. Fireplace and walls are faced with natural thin stone veneer and brick accents that match existing brick on site. Landscape beds, plants/trees, LED lighting system, and final site grading and seeding were installed after pool completion. Lighting includes 7 path lights, 9 accent lights, 8 step/under cap lights, and low voltage transformer.
