A fresh interpretation of the western farmhouse, The Sycamore, with its high pitch rooflines, custom interior trusses, and reclaimed hardwood floors offers irresistible modern warmth.
When merging the past indigenous citrus farms with today’s modern aesthetic, the result is a celebration of the Western Farmhouse. The goal was to craft a community canvas where homes exist as a supporting cast to an overall community composition. The extreme continuity in form, materials, and function allows the residents and their lives to be the focus rather than architecture. The unified architectural canvas catalyzes a sense of community rather than the singular aesthetic expression of 16 individual homes. This sense of community is the basis for the culture of The Sycamore.
The western farmhouse revival style embodied at The Sycamore features elegant, gabled structures, open living spaces, porches, and balconies. Utilizing the ideas, methods, and materials of today, we have created a modern twist on an American tradition. While the farmhouse essence is nostalgic, the cool, modern vibe brings a balance of beauty and efficiency. The modern aura of the architecture offers calm, restoration, and revitalization.
Located at 37th Street and Campbell in the western portion of the popular Arcadia residential neighborhood in Central Phoenix, the Sycamore is surrounded by some of Central Phoenix’s finest amenities, including walkable access to premier eateries such as La Grande Orange, Postino, North, and Chelsea’s Kitchen.

Originally built about 1850 in the historic Mohawk Valley of New York State, the Reese Brothers Barn is an unusual example of the transformation that took place in American agriculture during the Industrial Revolution of the mid-nineteenth century. Before this period of time, American farmers grew varied and diverse crops. But with the advent of the Industrial Revolution and its accompanying mass marketing, farmers began to specialize in the crops they raised. The architecture of their barns also became specialized, which led to larger barns like this one, with innovative farming to allow for larger clear spans.
The timbers were hewn by hand with the broad axe and adze from massive virgin hemlock trees. They were then joined together using the ancient method of mortise and tenon joinery. Its unique and innovative truss system allowed for forty-foot-long spans under which the Reese brothers could store enormous amounts of loose hay.
In 2000 the barn was carefully dismantled and restored at the 10XXX Ranch to its original condition by Joe and Connie Mitchell. It represents one of the finest examples of 19th century American architecture, now preserved for future generations to appreciate and enjoy.

This is southern yellow pine at its finest! 1 inch copper pipe! 4 x 6 beams! Interlocking 2 x 6 boards! End result customer was astonished! This pergola was constructed using methods never used today except by me. All of the intersecting joints use mortise and tenon joinery. All of the copper pipes are recessed into holes. Some of the mortise and tenon joints are double bypass. That of course probably doesn't mean much to the average reader. But if you are a woodworker you know exactly what I'm talking about and you understand the difficulty of assembly. I also challenged myself on this one by constructing it from some very simple drawings and no real plans. It was all done in my head! If you think that I'm bragging it's only because I am!

As is the true distinction of the Ziegler method, we collaborated with one of California's most innovative designers Mario Romano to create this one of a kind custom garage door. This is both modern design and artisan construction of a custom garage door at its finest. The flush mount door installation make this modern garage door almost invisible. This is one of three Mario Romano houses we provided flush mounted garage doors for and all are a different Romano influence of design. This Santa Monica seamless door is definitely a champion of modern garage doors and design conceptualization. Thank you Mario Romano for your continued patriotism to the Ziegler Family.
