Having lived in Annapolis, Maryland for the past thirteen years, it had always been a dream of Laura’s to one day, own a home in the historic district. For years, she would walk-by with her family of five, taking it all in. When the chance came for her and her husband to purchase their dream home years later, they jumped at the opportunity! A historic landmark, the Sands House has been a feature of Annapolis since the 17th century. Estimated to have been built sometime between 1654 and 1700, is thought to be the oldest frame houses in the Chesapeake region. As with any historic home, this one required a lot of work. Laura admits that, “there were many times throughout the renovation process where I looked back and thought, ‘oh, did we make a mistake?’” But the Smith’s hard work and persistence paid off when months after signing the lease, they were home

Located in Palo Alto's flood zone, this Eichler home underwent a phased renovation thoughtfully redesigned to accommodate a growing family of five, with an emphasis on school proximity and nearby grandparents. The bedroom wing was completely reconfigured, including a new front addition as a guest suite for grandparents, expanding the house to five bedrooms and three baths. Taller 9-foot ceilings were introduced in some areas, enhancing the overall openness—a lofty goal for an Eichler. The tranquil courtyard, a favorite spot for the family, was redesigned to allow parents to watch the kids while cooking. The backyard became a relaxing lounging area connected to the living room. Once dark living spaces were modernized by removing a low-hanging beam in the kitchen, adding skylights for natural light, and eliminating the fireplace to create a more functional entertainment space. Finally, new landscaping reflecting the client's heritage and some of the home's architectural elements, creates a harmonious indoor-outdoor flow. The final touches of a several year restoration process of an early 1900’s cathedral came with the restoration of five wooden altars and two confessionals. After a thorough cleaning, we refinished the wood and repaired 200+ drums that were cracking, faded, and in some cases completely painted over. We then gilded and hand painted the drums and countless other decorative elements that had tarnished or been worn away over time. The fresh gilding brings brilliance and light to the space as it was originally intended, and the congregation celebrated the project’s completion with a grand reopening service just in time for Easter!
