Our client requested a design that reflected their need to renovate their dated bathroom into a transitional floor plan that would provide accessibility and function. The new shower design consists of a pony wall with a glass enclosure that has beautiful details of brushed nickel square glass clamps.
The interior shower fittings entail geometric lines that lend a contemporary finish. A curbless shower and linear drain added an extra dimension of accessibility to the plan. In addition, a balance bar above the accessory niche was affixed to the wall for extra stability.
The shower area also includes a folding teak wood bench seat that also adds to the comfort of the bathroom as well as to the accessibility factors. Improved lighting was created with LED Damp-location rated recessed lighting. LED sconces were also used to flank the Robern medicine cabinet which created realistic and flattering light.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The client requested a large (19 foot wide by 15 foot projection) two-span retractable waterproof patio cover system to provide heavy rain, hail, heat, sun, glare and UV protection. This would allow our client to sit outside and enjoy their garden throughout the year, extending their outdoor entertainment space. For functionality they requested that water drain from the rear of the system into the front beam and down inside the right end post, exiting at the bottom from a tiny hole and draining into the flower beds thus preventing rain water from simply dropping off the front of the unit. The entire system used one continuous piece of fabric and one motor. The uprights and guides meet together at a smooth L-shaped angle, flush at the top for a perfectly smooth profile. The system has a Beaufort wind load rating Scale 10 (up to 63 mph) with the fabric fully extended and in use. A grey hood was also used to prevent rain water, debris and snow from collecting in the folds of fabric when not in use. A running profile from end to end in the rear of the unit was used to attach the Somfy RTS motor which is installed inside a motor safety box. Circular concrete footers were installed in the grassy area in front of the unit for mounting the 3 posts. To allow for a flat vertical mounting surface, a ledger board using pressure-treated wood was mounted the full 19-foot wall width, as the client’s house was made of uneven, thick stone.
PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT:
The client’s intention was for installation of a retractable waterproof patio cover system to provide heavy rain, hail, heat, sun, glare and UV protection for their backyard patio area.
What is unique or complex about the project?
This project was difficult for two main reasons: 1. Very large installation fasteners needed to be used to install through the above referenced ledger board and deep in to the stone structure of the house. 2. The motor cable needed to be placed through deeply drilled holes as the stone wall house wall is 15” thick. Drilling through en-even stone was definitely a challenge.
PROJECT RESULTS
The client was delighted with the results. The retractable patio cover system now makes it possible for the client to use a very large area in the rear of their house 24/7, 365 with the exclusion of snow. Since the client was very happy, they will be covering the ends, front and sides with our motorized vertical drop zippered awnings. Gable ends will also be covered with fixed fabric panels. Enclosing the entire area will allow the customer to heat the space in the winter and air condition the space in the summer.

A beautiful mix of natural stone is showcased in this Houston outdoor kitchen project by Outdoor Homescapes of Houston.
A mix of stone is becoming more of a trend in backyard kitchens in Houston. Homeowners there use their outdoor living spaces year 'round for entertaining and want something personalized and unique to show their guests.
This outdoor kitchen island features three different kinds of stone from three different quarries. The stone comes in three colors and shapes.
The grey stone is ledgestone. It's flatter and thinner. The tasslestone is the beige, more squarish stone. And the flagstone - more of a flat slab normally used as pavers - is more brown.
As you can see, the varying stones add texture and interest to outdoor living space plans.
Together, the different stones comprise a palette called "Iron Bridge."
The Level 3 Aphrodite granite countertop adds yet another beautiful natural stone to the mix.
Natural stone doesn't need any maintenance. It's already been in the world for eons, and will continue to be.
This Houston outdoor kitchen features a commercial-grade RCS stainless steel grill, sink and accompanying appliances.
The grill is an RCS 30-inch Pro. The icemaker is UL-rated and the fridge has been updated with RCS' latest stainless steel handle and liner for better durability.
The flooring is designer stamped concrete.

Imagine a home nestled in Colorado’s mountains that feels as enduring as the landscape itself. East Watch is that place – efficient, tough, and thoughtfully designed to make mountain living effortless and enjoyable. It’s where modern ideas meet nature’s demands, creating a space that’s both beautiful and practical.
Our clients wanted a mountain retreat that saved energy, stood strong against the elements, and stayed functional as life changes. High up at 8,200 feet, efficiency was key to cut heating costs, while durability meant handling winds up to 100mph and heavy snow. They also planned for the future with easy access – no stairs, wide doors, and spots for handrails if needed.
Mountain homes can rack up bills and wear down fast from weather and fires. We solved that with smart solar heating that covers most warmth needs naturally, using big windows and heavy walls to store heat. For strength, steel framing and fire-safe materials keep everything secure. And for everyday ease, the layout follows “form follows function,” making spaces like the kitchen intuitive and the whole home barrier-free.
The core idea? Work with the sun and the site. Windows face southeast for passive heat gain, with overhangs to block summer sun and shed snow. Inside, sloped ceilings let hot air escape, and thermal masses like the concrete floor hold warmth overnight. It’s a design that flows naturally, promoting comfort without extra effort.
Built on steel posts and beams for unshakeable support, the exterior uses corten steel, stone, and glass – all local, low-maintenance, and fire-resistant. The roof is top-rated for fires, and the deck withstands the elements year after year. Efficient floor heating kicks in only when necessary, keeping things cozy and costs low.
Simple and serene, with soft colors and clean shapes that let the views shine. Wide hallways and no steps make navigation easy, with thoughtful prep for any future needs. It’s a home that feels open, peaceful, and perfectly in tune with the outdoors.
Since 2019, East Watch has been a haven of sustainability and strength. It reduces energy use, withstands the mountains’ challenges, and adapts to life’s stages – all while offering stunning views and daily comfort. A true example of design that enhances how you live, built for lasting joy and resilience.

A homeowner in rural Waller County asked us to remove all of the old and breaking vinyl siding on his ranch style house and replace it will all new Hardie materials. And since we love a challenge, we gladly jumped at the chance. This house gave us the opportunity to show off the differences between vinyl and Hardie products, including siding, soffit, fascia, window and door trim, and their extra large ceilings on their large front porch.
As you can see, the old vinyl siding was warping, cracking, and falling off of the walls; the vinyl soffits and ceilings were stretched and sagging. This old vinyl siding was the OLD style with only the flat blue foam sheathing underneath it, which is always a concern because that foam has a very low perm rating, which means it is like wrapping your studs in Saran Wrap so moisture inside your walls cannot get out. In this case, we had to tear off multiple layers of stuff, including the old siding, the blue foam sheathing, the layer of original siding that was still on the wall, and all of the underlayers behind the siding. Often houses that have had vinyl siding for long periods end up discovering that their structural wood has absorbed water and parts of it have begun to rot. So wherever we find rotting or damaged load-bearing wood, we fix it. When all the studs are repaired, only then do we begin to apply to Hardie materials.

Overlooking the breathtaking views of Bodrum, this private villa project merges modern architecture with the refined elegance of Serapool porcelain. Designed as an infinity pool, the project utilizes the Blue Bead Series, whose deep navy tones and textured surface visually merge with the sea, creating an atmosphere that is both vibrant and serene. Around the pool, Beige Stone porcelain anti-slip terrace tiles provide a natural aesthetic that blends with the landscape, while the PTV ≥ 45° anti-slip rating ensures safe use along the infinity edge. Complementary details such as Blue Bead outer trim and Beige Stone flat coping pieces add refined and functional transitions at the poolside, enhancing both form and function.

This modern contemporary custom home is tucked away in the mountains of Todd, North Carolina. This home doubles as the client’s primary office, so we ensured it was set up to accommodate accordingly. This home has a 5 different level layer roof systems with open rafters to span the entire length of the house to create a truly open floor system with a roof material in a burnished slate color. The flooring is a 4" character grade wide oak used in the kitchen, living, dining, and foyer; including the open staircase. The entire back wall was over 18' tile and used all LSL lumber to create the strength for the wind shear. The home was built to withstand above the 120 mph wind rating. All kitchen cabinets are natural maple with hanstone aspen quartz countertops. All doors are Tucker Flat Panel pine doors. For the trim throughout the house we used Radiata D Select pine. For all the stair handrails we used stainless steel cables to create the open view, the interior rails of the house are custom. We used 8x8 Douglas fir posts for the outside deck. A walk-in custom shower was designed for the master bathroom. Alair Homes

What surprises people most when entering and walking on the glowing white surface in this particular Private Residence (Williamsburg, VA) is when they find out they are walking on a sea of glass! Yes, GLASS! Not marble, not granite, but GLASS! Nathan Allan has created a very fresh, unique flooring surface, which is smooth to touch on the majority of the glass surface, yet has an almost invisible safety finish permanently embedded in the glass surface.
THE GLASS
Nathan Allan’s Glass Flooring incorporates features which are visually stunning, while also providing a safety finish which provides comfort to everyone walking on the glass. Our Sandstone texture is forged into the bottom surface of the glass, while our exclusive Glass Sandpaper safety finish is fused onto the walking surface. To enhance all features, we added a bright, sparkling, White Metallic color finish throughout each flooring panel.
SPECIFICATIONS
Each Glass Flooring panel is produced in 1/2″ (12mm) thick, Low Iron, tempered safety glass. Tempered glass provides added strength, insuring that the Glass Flooring can accept a heavy load. Panels vary in size and dimension, with most panels measured at a block size of 5’0 x 6’0 (1500mm x 1800mm). Perimeter Edge panels were carved and shaped to fit tightly against the curved walls. Glass Sandpaper, ASTM tested in labs with the highest slip-coefficient safety ratings, is fused onto the walking surface, to provide a very comfortable and effective safety feature.
Flooring Glass Details:
1/2″ (12mm) thick, Low iron tempered safety glass
Flat Polished Edges
Glass Sandpaper on walking surface
Sandstone texture on bottom surface
White Metallic color finish on bottom surface
Panels sizes up to 5’0 x 6’0
Approximately 800 square feet of glass flooring
Perimeter panels shape cut to fit
Almost overshadowed by the spectacular flooring is a 1.5” thick, Heavy Glasstop, Crescent shaped, with Nathan Allan’s Rocky Mountain texture.
DESIGN
A White Sea of Glass flooring is the finished result of combining a light Sandstone texture on the bottom glass surface, with the added touch of a sparkling White Metallic color finish. Combined with our Glass Sandpaper safety finish, and the natural and artificial light sources, our Glass Flooring shimmers within the entire entrance space.
INSTALLATION
Using very important installation techniques, Nathan Allan worked hand in hand with great team of professionals: Vicki Bristow, designer, W. M. Jordan Company, GC, and Pompei Inc, glass flooring installer. Templates were produced for all perimeter edge panels, and every shaped panel. All flooring panels are secured to the substrate with special adhesives, and joints are filled with matching color sealants.
“A beautiful project is always enhanced when working with quality, prestigious builders, and talented trade’s people. The tight organization and open communication by all the team members contributed greatly to a project proceeding seamlessly, with the incredible visual results to prove it.” Barry Allan – Director
