DHD Crosby Street Loft in SOHO, NYC The Crosby Street Loft building is located on a cobblestone block in the Soho Cast Iron Historic District. Built in 1882, it was formerly a department store, and converted in 2001 to a 10-unit loft condominium. Our renovation of a second floor loft retains and celebrates many of the original details, including generous, open spaces, 14 foot plus ceiling heights, Corinthian-style columns, and a continuous 120 foot exposed brick wall with integrated archways. The design was a collaborative process, integrating elements discovered on the client’s world travels. Design features include a 12 foot tall glass lounge, two fireplaces, Control4 smart home system, a stone, cold-rolled steel and custom walnut cabinet kitchen and living room, and a luxurious master suite reminiscent of a 5-star hotel. http://www.dhd.nyc Architect: David Howell, R.A. To create some height in the otherwise flat garden, native Redbud trees were planted at the center of each square, and small step-stones were laid for easier access to care for the plantings within the boxwood-hedged flower beds. The pattern of the step-stones helped to reinforce the idea of quilted patches stitched into old-fashioned quilts.

The house's original wooden supports & staircase were old and decayed. Architectural Elements fabricated and installed new, steel support beams that would move and grow with the trees. We also created a segmented staircase with blackened steel railings. Inside the house, we provided a kinetic ladder to access a lofted relaxation space.

From cops, cowboys and bikers, to sailors, lumberjacks and leather men — there’s a little something (and then some) for everyone. That-a-boy! Michael Reynolds is a New York-based creative director, curator, editorial stylist, book editor and design consultant. He is the US Editor of Wallpaper* Magazine and Editor at Large for Architectural Digest USA. His first book, TOM HOUSE – Tom of Finland in Los Angeles, is available through Rizzoli Publications. Eric Hoffman founded Hoffman Creative a decade ago in New York, a firm creating brand identities for a range of clients with an ethos rooted in psychology and emotional intelligence.
