Our clients loved their neighborhood and being able to walk to work. While they knew it was their forever home, they needed more space. Their goals were to completely update the interior while keeping the original charm. They also wanted to add an addition for more space for their growing family. On the first floor we relocated the kitchen, dining, and laundry room. With the rear addition we were able to enlarge the kitchen and dining and add in a powder room, secondary playroom, mudroom and back entry. On the second floor, the back half was entirely reconfigured. We added a primary suite and a hallway bathroom. With this being a historic home, we left the existing windows in place as well as the trim and baseboards. We kept and refinished the existing stairway railing. The primary bathroom was moved to be more user friendly. We made cosmetic upgrades throughout the home for a cohesive look that matches the homeowner’s style which was transitional with industrial elements.

Our clients relocated to Ann Arbor and struggled to find an open layout home that was fully functional for their family. We worked to create a modern inspired home with convenient features and beautiful finishes. This 4,500 square foot home includes 6 bedrooms, and 5.5 baths. In addition to that, there is a 2,000 square feet beautifully finished basement. It has a semi-open layout with clean lines to adjacent spaces, and provides optimum entertaining for both adults and kids. The interior and exterior of the home has a combination of modern and transitional styles with contrasting finishes mixed with warm wood tones and geometric patterns.

Besides the need for an aesthetic update, the plan was to increase connection between the kitchen and the living room, bringing the two main family gathering spaces together. Removing the TV cabinet made a huge difference and allowed us to reprogram some floor area from the living room to the kitchen. This opened up more space for circulation in the kitchen and therefore made room for a larger island and additional side buffet cabinets. We also added island seating, and switched the location of the sink & range for a more functional working triangle.

Our clients needed more space for their family to eat, sleep, play and grow. Expansive views of backyard activities, a larger kitchen, and an open floor plan was important for our clients in their desire for a more comfortable and functional home. To expand the space and create an open floor plan, we moved the kitchen to the back of the house and created an addition that includes the kitchen, dining area, and living area. A mudroom was created in the existing kitchen footprint. On the second floor, the addition made way for a true master suite with a new bathroom and walk-in closet.

Our client’s goal was to create a welcoming, warm, forever home that acted as the family gathering spot for their children’s growing families. To achieve our client’s goals, our design focused on increasing the square footage with a second story, creating a true primary suite and guest space, and maintaining the gorgeous exterior views. Our clients also wanted a dedicated foyer and a much larger kitchen and community space.

Our clients were ready to take their 20+ year old home and give the design a refresh, and make their space a lot more functional for their needs. The areas in their first floor they wanted to improve were the kitchen, mudroom and pantry, dining room, living room, stairway and powder room. They wanted their space to match their fun mid-century modern style. Our design team and our clients dreamed up a plan that not only solves all of the functional issues they were dealing with, it’s also a stunning and unique space. We removed the wall in between the kitchen and dining room. We created a center island that extends and lowers to include an eat-in area. The cabinetry plan in the kitchen changed to suit their needs. We re-did the flooring throughout the first floor and installed a new fireplace. The existing laundry room got moved to the basement, making way for a mudroom and pantry space. We installed a new railing on the staircase and an art niche in the living room. The powder room got a refresh with statement wallpaper and vanity.
