Our clients were living in a Northwood Hills home in Dallas that was built in 1968. Some updates had been done but none really to the main living areas in the front of the house. They love to entertain and do so frequently but the layout of their house wasn’t very functional. There was a galley kitchen, which was mostly shut off to the rest of the home. They were not using the formal living and dining room in front of your house, so they wanted to see how this space could be better utilized. They wanted to create a more open and updated kitchen space that fits their lifestyle. One idea was to turn part of this space into an office, utilizing the bay window with the view out of the front of the house. Storage was also a necessity, as they entertain often and need space for storing those items they use for entertaining. They would also like to incorporate a wet bar somewhere!
We demoed the brick and paneling from all of the existing walls and put up drywall. The openings on either side of the fireplace and through the entryway were widened and the kitchen was completely opened up. The fireplace surround is changed to a modern Emser Esplanade Trail tile, versus the chunky rock it was previously. The ceiling was raised and leveled out and the beams were removed throughout the entire area. Beautiful Olympus quartzite countertops were installed throughout the kitchen and butler’s pantry with white Chandler cabinets and Grace 4”x12” Bianco tile backsplash. A large two level island with bar seating for guests was built to create a little separation between the kitchen and dining room. Contrasting black Chandler cabinets were used for the island, as well as for the bar area, all with the same 6” Emtek Alexander pulls. A Blanco low divide metallic gray kitchen sink was placed in the center of the island with a Kohler Bellera kitchen faucet in vibrant stainless. To finish off the look three Iconic Classic Globe Small Pendants in Antiqued Nickel pendant lights were hung above the island. Black Supreme granite countertops with a cool leathered finish were installed in the wet bar, The backsplash is Choice Fawn gloss 4x12” tile, which created a little different look than in the kitchen. A hammered copper Hayden square sink was installed in the bar, giving it that cool bar feel with the black Chandler cabinets. Off the kitchen was a laundry room and powder bath that were also updated. They wanted to have a little fun with these spaces, so the clients chose a geometric black and white Bella Mori 9x9” porcelain tile. Coordinating black and white polka dot wallpaper was installed in the laundry room and a fun floral black and white wallpaper in the powder bath. A dark bronze Metal Mirror with a shelf was installed above the porcelain pedestal sink with simple floating black shelves for storage.
Their butlers pantry, the added storage space, and the overall functionality has made entertaining so much easier and keeps unwanted things out of sight, whether the guests are sitting at the island or at the wet bar! The clients absolutely love their new space and the way in which has transformed their lives and really love entertaining even more now!

This suburban home felt outdated with oak cabinets that looked too traditional. This family, now a couple with an empty nest, wanted a refresh with more modern fixtures and transitional furniture in the colors that represented them best. The color palette was inspired by their travels all over the world including frequent visits to see family in Jamaica and most recently, a vacation in Australia.
Collected Interiors worked with the clients to bring an ocean-inspired color palette and fun textures to their primary bath. With visits to the plumbing showroom and tile warehouse, we were able to select more modern finishes, while keeping a fun feel in the mosaic backsplash.
The family room needed a bright, and clean refresh with more modern looking cabinets, cleaner lines and still plenty of storage. Since our clients are focused on utilizing electric energy, they replaced all of their gas fireplaces and appliances with electric, and this fireplace was included. By choosing a colorful mosaic tile and paint, this room is anything but boring and stuffy. Commissioning a one-of-a-kind piece of art from their trip to Australia, we used it as a foundation to guide the rest of their design. The result was a bright and vibrant space, featuring furniture and accessories that perfectly complemented the artwork.
As their children grew up and moved out to apartments of their own, our clients found themselves with two empty bedrooms and no furniture. With our Space Lift service, we were able to pull together two new bedroom looks that’s perfect for guests, but still comfortable when their adult children came to visit. We utilized the help of a color analysis expert to narrow down the wall paint by gathering inspiration from previously owned art. From there, we refined the color palettes and carried them into the furnishings and bedding.

Since the door opens into the right side, the left side is where I placed all of the clothes he wears frequently - button ups and t-shirts arranged in rainbow order and type. Along with running shoes and sneakers. Utilized the vertical space on the top shelf and moved his sneakers up there, going from casual to dress shoes all across the top shelf.

Perched atop a hill overlooking the picturesque Los Osos Valley, this project is an addition to an existing contemporary craftsman home. The clients, who are frequent entertainers and music aficionados, enjoyed their main residence for some time before deciding to add on what would become the entertainment space they had always dreamed of. The addition is situated adjacent to the main house, seamlessly connected by a new gallery breezeway. The breezeway, with views out to the hilltops beyond, acts as separate entry for guests during large parties. This new addition pays careful attention to the proportions of the main house, while taking cues from iconic craftsman homes like the Gamble House. Inside, vaulted ceilings and expertly crafted woodwork display a substantial vinyl music collection and state of the art stereo system. Open seating space, a beautifully detailed bar and fireplace make the space ideal for entertaining large groups. When they are not hosing parties, the clients utilize the space to enjoy their large classical music collection. Custom 12' sliding wood wall panels partition off a portion of the great room space to create an acoustically optimized music listening room. With careful attention to detail and craftsmanship throughout, this addition has surely become the gem of this quintessential Central Coast home.

This project was a complete gut renovation of a 1979 condo in Palo Alto, CA. Our frequent traveler clients needed a place where they could relax and reconnect every time they return, thus the destination is always home.
We focused on a fresh look and layout while embracing bold, new concepts. The original layout was a bit tricky - tight walkways, jogging angled walls, and a cramped, closed-in kitchen. It was necessary to reimagine these spaces for better connection between the dining room and the kitchen as well as creating more generous and functional space in the home office and closets.
In the kitchen, the teal-colored cabinets were inspired by an antique piece of furniture, where the wood grain beneath was visible. We were able to bring in fun pops of color by mixing cabinet finishes. Another detail we love is the contrast of the stunning black Bertazonni hood, complemented by the stainless steel electric range. The black soapstone countertop is durable and can be oiled or waxed instead of needing to be chemically sealed.
Our clients love to entertain guests so we utilized curved lines on the peninsula countertop as well as the oval tulip table to enhance flow between the kitchen and dining spaces. The bespoke banquet and barstools allow for a variety of entertaining possibilities.
We took a cue from our client’s art collection - the punches of color and the overall sense of drama in each piece informed the project’s analogous color-inspired palette. In the dining room, you can see the yellows and greens in the artwork above the table carry into the ochre dining chairs, gorgeous green sofa, and beautiful warm brass accents in the kitchen. The blue in the peninsula cabinets and pendant lighting is the third entrancing color of the analogous palette.
We meticulously curated every element of the layout for maximum functionality and show-stopping moments. Our clients now have a colorful, customized space where they can reconnect and enjoy their time at home.

Maybe you can relate to these empty nesters who reached out to us to design and build a new kitchen for their current and long term needs. They do lots of entertaining, have an extensive wine collection and enjoy welcoming more grandchildren into the family. Both cook, although he prefers his grill. They wanted their new kitchen to be an open space that is easier to move around in. They were also looking forward to more storage and new, state-of-the-art appliances.
Design objectives:
-New layout to accommodate large groups for frequent entertaining
-Big island to seat as many people as possible
Improve traffic flow by omitting a counter peninsula by the family room and other cabinet barriers
-Main cooktop to face visitors with point-of-use spices, utensils, pots & pans nearby
-Multiple cooking & refrigeration appliances
-Plan for as much countertop space as possible for multiple cooks
-Dedicated spaces needed for wine, liquor, cold drinks & decorative glassware
-Incorporate special details such as thick or waterfall countertops, unique backsplash, wood accents
-Need better task, ambient and general lighting
-Make it beautiful – a kitchen the homeowners could be proud of
-Seamlessly join kitchen with breakfast room, given load-bearing wall & various ceiling heights
-Ensure the large, newly opened space remains intimate and inclusive
-Determine how to best utilize the breakfast room, given limited availability of wall space with two sets of French doors and a large window
-Relocating two ventilation ducts currently in a wall to be removed
-Incorporate multiple appliances while adding functional storage
-Integrate special details that wouldn’t be lost in a large room
-Utilize multiple finishes and colors that provide continuity
Design solutions:
-The wall between the kitchen & breakfast nook was completely removed – the structural beam was shortened, providing the largest opening possible
-One small wall section remained intact to relocate ductwork, which conveniently created an alcove for the dual refrigerator armoire
-Two islands in the same finish visually join the elongated room
-The cooking island includes necessary point-of-use storage along with a steam oven and additional storage on the opposite side
The wide cooking island allows for two cooks to comfortably share the counter space, allowing casual interaction
-The second island fills the center of the former breakfast room; tall cabinets in a contrasting finish flank the French doors and provide visual balance
-The sizable second island provides seating for six on a conversation-conducive curve. It houses freezer drawers, a microwave drawer, an under-counter refrigerator, plus additional storage
-Docking station inside drawer
-Two cabinet styles in three finishes provide continuity, balance and interest in the large room
While the clients didn’t have a specific vision of the remodeled space, they were completely open to new ideas and knew which features they wanted when they saw them. They were truly doing the project for their own enjoyment and that of their family and guests. We’re happy to know they are thrilled with the end result. In fact, we had so much fun working together we’re now talking about a new project!
