A small, yet fully functional kitchen capable of fulfilling any request or appetite! The cherry cabinetry is finished in a beautiful French blue-grey striate with accents of walnut and adorned with polished nickel and crystal glass knobs. The extraordinary white Calacatta Romano marble countertops are reflected in the hand cut marble mosaics extending the full height of the wall providing a breathtaking moment upon entering this room. A quick cup of fresh hot coffee, espresso or cappuccino is easily accessible as Monsieur dresses for the start of his business day. Maybe he has time to sit at the marble peninsula and enjoy the view and the fireplace as he reads the morning paper and listens to the stock and traffic news. The refrigerator is elegantly camouflaged as an antique mirrored armoire. Inside is an undisclosed amount of cookie dough that serves to cure Madame's fervor for fresh shortbreads with her afternoon tea or a quick snack for the little one's playing in the Atrium. Simply place a few dollops of dough and place in the speed oven for just several minutes and voila. Monsieur loves to prepare a full breakfast for his d'amour as they lounge in their chambers on a lazy morning, along with hot baked croissants, frothing lattes, and fresh berries and cream. Everything he needs is just within reach...a fully stocked refrigerator, induction cooktop, speed oven and concealed dishwasher to provide an easy clean up.

This client came to us with a very clear vision of what she wanted, but she needed help to refine and execute the design. At our first meeting she described her style as somewhere between modern rustic and ‘granny chic’ – she likes cozy spaces with nods to the past, but also wanted to blend that with the more contemporary tastes of her husband and children. Functionally, the old layout was less than ideal with an oddly placed 3-sided fireplace and angled island creating traffic jams in and around the kitchen. By creating a U-shaped layout, we clearly defined the chef’s domain and created a circulation path that limits disruptions in the heart of the kitchen. While still an open concept, the black cabinets, bar height counter and change in flooring all add definition to the space. The vintage inspired black and white tile is a nod to the past while the black stainless range and matte black faucet are unmistakably modern. High on our client’s wish list was eliminating upper cabinets and keeping the countertops clear. In order to achieve this, we needed to ensure there was ample room in the base cabinets and reconfigured pantry for items typically stored above. The full height tile backsplash evokes exposed brick and serves as the backdrop for the custom wood-clad hood and decorative brass sconces – a perfect blend of rustic, modern and chic. Black and brass elements are repeated throughout the main floor in new hardware, lighting, and open shelves as well as the owners’ curated collection of family heirlooms and furnishings. In addition to renovating the kitchen, we updated the entire first floor with refinished hardwoods, new paint, wainscoting, wallcovering and beautiful new stained wood doors. Our client had been dreaming and planning this kitchen for 17 years and we’re thrilled we were able to bring it to life.

This marble look quartz has the look and feel of marble without all the maintenance. It also works perfectly as a backsplash making the countertops look endless.

This was a gut remodel of a 1950’s 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 1200-square-foot home. The main house was composed of two bedrooms with one bathroom, and a separate studio unit with a full bathroom was located in the backyard. The new owners, a family of 4, wanted to remove the studio unit and increase the square footage of the main house to include a new master suite, family room, and powder room while leaving enough space for the possible addition of a pool in the backyard down the road. We also expanded the kitchen and remodeled the kids’ shared bathroom. White Sands advised during the architectural stage of the project to perfect the layout and ensure enough space was carved out for the new kitchen, family room, and master bedroom. We designed a modified galley kitchen with a large eat-in island in the center. Custom cabinetry was key in making the layout work. To provide ample storage, we created a European-style larder pantry, which is flanked by full-height glass hutches and appliance garages to keep countertop gadgets concealed. The family room is anchored by a new fireplace, complete with custom built-ins flanking each side. The client’s goal for the overall aesthetic is very simple, classic coastal cottage. They wanted cutesy charm. They did not want anything fussy or fancy, requesting selections to be pared down and approachable. All tile and counter finishes selected were in timeless shapes and color palettes. We brought in color and personality with the accessories- cabinet hardware, mirrors, wallcoverings, and styling accessories.

This brownstone renovation was a full gut project in every sense of the word. On top of installing new floors, a kitchen and bath renovation, and all the typical restoration and refinishing involved in a brownstone built in 1899, we also completely updated the exterior, constructed a balcony that was not originally there, and converted the space from a single-family home into an an owner’s triplex. A newly separated studio rental on the garden level offers the opportunity for supplemental income, an uncommon and welcome addition to a New York brownstone. A TRANSITIONAL GEM The result is a two-family brownstone that perfectly combines classic townhouse living with today’s modern needs, including SmartHome technology that we installed to control Bluetooth speakers, Nest thermostats, and the security system. The overall aesthetic goal was to pay homage to the historical periods the brownstone has lived through in a cohesive way that is the hallmark of modern transitional style. In the kitchen, white Shaker-style cabinetry, a subway tile backsplash, and marble rather than quartz countertops bring a classically upscale sensibility. To modernize the space further, we opened up the back wall to create floor-to-ceiling windows that are also doors, opening up into the newly built balcony. TIMELY TOUCHES This brownstone renovation included many quintessential elements, such as millwork like the ceiling medallions. We restored some and custom built others, perfectly recreating their original appearance. The heated master bathroom is now serene, with a walk-in shower featuring a subtly modern linear drain. A herringbone Carrera marble tiled floor and marble slab sink complete the scene. In the powder room, we embraced a contemporary look by pairing dark hexagonal floors with light chevron tiles, accented with dramatic navy blue wallpaper. With its clear-cut 1920s-style, we selected the wall sconce to reference one of the brownstone’s earlier eras. DESIGN DETAILS Natural oak herringbone floors we installed throughout the entire home bring a modern yet warm touch. We restored the wood-burning marble fireplace, which is fully functioning. An elegant staircase with a custom-crafted black wooden banister and white balusters winds up and down alongside a real brick interior wall that we restored and refinished. In this brownstone renovation, we were also able to create ceiling height, an unexpected yet aesthetically pleasing side benefit. When working on the joists and beams to level out the floors (a common issue in pre-war renovations) we added ceiling height in the main parlor floor by taking the second floor and raising the ceiling an entire foot. The end result is a main floor with stunning 9-foot ceilings. Inspiration for a timeless u-shaped brown floor kitchen pantry remodel in Chicago with open cabinets, white cabinets, wood countertops and brown countertops

For our full gut renovation of this Manhattan loft penthouse, we partnered with architecture firm Todd Zwigard Architects. Many of our clients know us as experts in the full design-build approach, where we handle every aspect of the project. But in this case, architectural plans were already drawn, the full schedule was finished, and our clients needed a partner to execute on the architectural plans – enter Gallery. Construction management is as vital to a project as the design phase, so we’re happy to offer our expertise in this type of scenario. A DIFFERENT APPROACH Construction and design are often the face of most renovations, but the planning and follow-through are naturally just as necessary to make it all come together. The project itself was a fairly straightforward gut renovation of the loft. Everything was included: new floors, a new kitchen, new bathrooms, new lighting. Our task was to manage every aspect of the construction, ensuring that the planning work of Todd Zwigard Architects was executed to the exact vision imagined for this Manhattan loft renovation. CONTEMPORARY GOES ECLECTIC Although we didn’t contribute to the aesthetic of the interior design in this project, we did carry out the plans that brought it life. The tone was very modern, with some eclectic touches. The kitchen, featuring an island with a baby blue lacquered finish, blends contemporary clean lines into an industrial-tinged, almost futuristic aesthetic. Reclaimed wooden doors and art pieces collected throughout the years are an ode to the client's travels, an artistic touch from Todd Zwigard Architects. LET’S TALK Quality of work is of course important, but there are several components of construction management that are equally vital: communication; processes that make sure you're able to adhere to schedules; protocols with both safety and communication. You might say this is the nerding out of the construction process. It’s not often the face of a project, but it’s absolutely massive in terms of carrying out a successful renovation, whether it’s a penthouse loft in Manhattan, a condo in Prospect Heights, or a kitchen in a Brooklyn brownstone. Quality construction management is probably one of the biggest ways to separate professional contractors from those who aren’t. This beautiful kitchen is Thyme & Place Design's take on modern farmhouse style. White painted full access custom cabinets frame the perimeter of the space and a custom soft gray paint adorns the island cabinetry. The former kitchen felt tight and lacked style while this new kitchen has attitude to spare. Sub Zero and Wolf appliances set the stage for a cooks delight. An antique barn beam was used to create the mantle and corbels for an updated version of a mantle hood. Ample storage for everything a gourmet cook could want was provided. Deep drawers hold all the pots and pans for daily cooking. Pull out storage holds oil and vinegar bottles for instant recipe inspiration. A magic corner cabinet allows access to mixing bowls and colanders. Extra height wall cabinet storage contains several sets of dishes and most used foods at the cook’s fingertips. The island does double duty providing seating for extra guests, presenting a large expanse of countertop for all types of cooking prep. There is a microwave drawer for quick reheats and the most coveted by a baker, a built-in mixer lift. Behind the island, an oversized glass door pantry closet holds everything from pantry staples, to holiday dishes and oversized cooking and serving pieces. The dining area found a renewed sense of purpose with the removal of walls which cut it off from the rest of the home. Black ebonized maple with honey bronze hardware is a dramatic balance to the white and grey of the kitchen. The space was further opened to the family room which is now an integrated part of the family’s gatherings. Honey Bronze accents are repeated in the light fixtures over the island and as an accent on the sconces above the coffee bar.
