Transforming this small bathroom into a wheelchair accessible retreat was no easy task. Incorporating unattractive grab bars and making them look seamless was the goal. A floating vanity / countertop allows for roll up accessibility and the live edge of the granite countertops make if feel luxurious. Double sinks for his and hers sides plus medicine cabinet storage helped for this minimal feel of neutrals and breathability. The barn door opens for wheelchair movement but can be closed for the perfect amount of privacy.

Inspiration for a contemporary kitchen remodel in New York

This three-bedroom, two-bath home, designed and built to Passive House standards*, is located on a gently sloping hill adjacent to a conservation area in North Stamford. The home was designed by the owner, an architect, for single-floor living. The home was certified as a US DOE Zero Energy Ready Home. Without solar panels, the home has a HERS score of 34. In the near future, the homeowner intends to add solar panels which will lower the HERS score from 34 to 0. At that point, the home will become a Net Zero Energy Home. *The home was designed and built to conform to Passive House certification standards but the homeowner opted to forgo Passive House Certification.

A roof top patio in a penthouse loft in NYC. This outdoor living space is designed as an urban oasis, featuring comfortable seating nestled within a lush landscape.

This project was featured in Midwest Home magazine as the winner of ASID Life in Color. The addition of a kitchen with custom shaker-style cabinetry and a large shiplap island is perfect for entertaining and hosting events for family and friends. Quartz counters that mimic the look of marble were chosen for their durability and ease of maintenance. Open shelving with brass sconces above the sink create a focal point for the large open space. Putting a modern spin on the traditional nautical/coastal theme was a goal. We took the quintessential palette of navy and white and added pops of green, stylish patterns, and unexpected artwork to create a fresh bright space. Grasscloth on the back of the built in bookshelves and console table along with rattan and the bentwood side table add warm texture. Finishes and furnishings were selected with a practicality to fit their lifestyle and the connection to the outdoors. A large sectional along with the custom cocktail table in the living room area provide ample room for game night or a quiet evening watching movies with the kids. The homeowner was going to source the changing table for her son. She ran into several problems. 1. they were far costlier than her budget could handle. 2. we did not have the wall space in the bathroom for any of the models she liked, and the only way one would work was if it was mounted on the wall and could fold up when not in use. We did not have wall space for any of the commercially available products. SOLUTION The solution was to custom design and build a changing table for her. We built a frame similar to a hollowcore door to mimimize weight, added two folding legs and devised a way to hide them when the table was stored on the wall. Finally, we had the top covered with a dense foam and a durable vinyl Naugahyde by an upholsterer who is experienced in automobile upholstery. He said this was the most durable solution given the daily usage of the table. We mounted the table on the wall over the toilet and when not in use, it neatly folds up for easy storage. Any other wall was too close to the shower area. We were able to make the width of the table deep enough for Billy’s future growth and as long as the wall would allow PHOTO CREDIT: John Ray

The interior can be fitted with a full kitchen or simple counter and wetbar, and a full or half bath – or left open for office or guest bedroom use. The Britespace is available in 264, 352, and 480 square foot sizes, and comes in a limited number of design options for interior and exterior finishes.
