What does carbon negative mean? This sofa is mostly made of wood. Wood is mostly made of atmospheric carbon, which trees draw from our atmosphere as they grow. This sofa contains 220 pounds of wood, and recycled cotton. about half of that weight is carbon absorbed from the atmosphere, or 110 pounds. I had to use 3.2 gallons of gasoline to move the log, mill the log, and carry the wood to my shop. The gasoline contained 20 pounds of carbon, so 20 - 110 = -90 pounds of carbon still associated with this sofa.

A rare surviving mid-century relic, the gasoline filler nozzle lamp makes a truly unique object to own or gift to automotive enthusiasts. A welcomed addition to service stations and repair garages. The nozzle was manufactured by OPW Division of Dover probably in the 1960s. Included is a very recycled parabolic steel shade, structured with black pipes and pipe fittings and mounted on a custom black wood base. The shade can be positioned forward, downward, backward or upward.
Lamp is 26 inches tall, 21 inches wide and 6 inches deep.

This side of the home's Zone 0 has always been a smooth and clear service entrance. The trash bin nook built into the retaining wall may be a home-saving intervention. While added in the original 2009 renovation, it is cutting edge! A CAL FIRE+IBHS analysis of home ignitions during the 2025 LA Fires found garbage bins were one of the top 2 sources for home ignition. Each bin is the equivalent of 3.5 gallons of gasoline in fuel. They should be kept more than 5 feet from homes and ideally in an ember resistant space.
