This was a collaboration spanning a few years. The Client had already remodeled the spaces by the time I came in to furnish and finesse. They took a generic ranch style home and modernized it for their lifestyle. The asks were for cool, collected, color, and nothing "off the shelf". The results are a sophisticated and artful personal point of view, timeless, yet forward thinking, full of Vintage Finds, Carefully curated art and fabulous textiles. Kathryn MacDonald Photography

Believe it or not, this award-winning home began as a speculative project. Typically speculative projects involve a rather generic design that would appeal to many in a style that might be loved by the masses. But the project’s developer loved modern architecture and his personal residence was the first project designed by architect C.P. Drewett when Drewett Works launched in 2001. Together, the architect and developer envisioned a fictitious art collector who would one day purchase this stunning piece of desert modern architecture to showcase their magnificent collection.
The primary views from the site were southwest. Therefore, protecting the interior spaces from the southwest sun while making the primary views available was the greatest challenge. The views were very calculated and carefully managed. Every room needed to not only capture the vistas of the surrounding desert, but also provide viewing spaces for the potential collection to be housed within its walls.
The core of the material palette is utilitarian including exposed masonry and locally quarried cantera stone. An organic nature was added to the project through millwork selections including walnut and red gum veneers.
The eventual owners saw immediately that this could indeed become a home for them as well as their magnificent collection, of which pieces are loaned out to museums around the world. Their decision to purchase the home was based on the dimensions of one particular wall in the dining room which was EXACTLY large enough for one particular painting not yet displayed due to its size. The owners and this home were, as the saying goes, a perfect match!

Interior design, space planning and architectural details converge thoughtfully in this transformative project. A 15-year old, 9,000 sf. home with generic interior finishes and odd layout needed bold, modern, fun and highly functional transformation for a large bustling family. To redefine the soul of this home, texture and light were given primary consideration. Elegant contemporary finishes, a warm color palette and dramatic lighting defined modern style throughout. A cascading chandelier by Stone Lighting in the entry makes a strong entry statement. Walls were removed to allow the kitchen/great/dining room to become a vibrant social center. A minimalist design approach is the perfect backdrop for the diverse art collection. Yet, the home is still highly functional for the entire family. We added windows, fireplaces, water features, and extended the home out to an expansive patio and yard.
The cavernous beige basement became an entertaining mecca, with a glowing modern wine-room, full bar, media room, arcade, billiards room and professional gym.
Bathrooms were all designed with personality and craftsmanship, featuring unique tiles, floating wood vanities and striking lighting.
This project was a 50/50 collaboration between Rodwin Architecture and Kimball Modern

This alternate view of the Coconut Grove dining room shows the art-driven design direction behind the remodel, with a peacock-inspired focal wall, jewel-toned seating, sculptural lighting, and a transparent dining table that keeps the room open while allowing the color story to command attention.
The space was created for clients who wanted a dining room with personality, glamour, and cultural influence — not a generic Miami remodel. Every element was curated to support a more expressive, entertaining-focused home that feels collected, dramatic, and personal.

This Lennon swivel chair corner proves you can have comfort and flexibility without sacrificing a collected, character-rich look. The low-profile Lennon chairs keep sightlines open while the swivel lets you turn toward the conversation, the TV, or the view, and layered textures, art, and personal pieces around them make the space feel warm, lived-in, and intentionally cozy—not like a generic seating setup.

Trendy l-shaped gray floor kitchen photo in Los Angeles with flat-panel cabinets, light wood cabinets, multicolored backsplash, stainless steel appliances, an island and white countertops

This 400 s.f. studio apartment in NYC’s Greenwich Village serves as a pied-a-terre
for clients whose primary residence is on the West Coast.
Although the clients do not reside here full-time, this tiny space accommodates
all the creature comforts of home.
Bleached hardwood floors, crisp white walls, and high ceilings are the backdrop to
a custom blackened steel and glass partition, layered with raw silk sheer draperies,
to create a private sleeping area, replete with custom built-in closets.
Simple headboard and crisp linens are balanced with a lightly-metallic glazed
duvet and a vintage textile pillow.
The living space boasts a custom Belgian linen sectional sofa that pulls out into a
full-size bed for the couple’s young children who sometimes accompany them.
Efficient and inexpensive dining furniture sits comfortably in the main living space
and lends clean, Scandinavian functionality for sharing meals. The sculptural
handrafted metal ceiling mobile offsets the architecture’s clean lines, defining the
space while accentuating the tall ceilings.
The kitchenette combines custom cool grey lacquered cabinets with brass fittings,
white beveled subway tile, and a warm brushed brass backsplash; an antique
Boucherouite runner and textural woven stools that pull up to the kitchen’s
coffee counter punctuate the clean palette with warmth and the human scale.
The under-counter freezer and refrigerator, along with the 18” dishwasher, are all
panelled to match the cabinets, and open shelving to the ceiling maximizes the
feeling of the space’s volume.
The entry closet doubles as home for a combination washer/dryer unit.
The custom bathroom vanity, with open brass legs sitting against floor-to-ceiling
marble subway tile, boasts a honed gray marble countertop, with an undermount
sink offset to maximize precious counter space and highlight a pendant light. A
tall narrow cabinet combines closed and open storage, and a recessed mirrored
medicine cabinet conceals additional necessaries.
The stand-up shower is kept minimal, with simple white beveled subway tile and
frameless glass doors, and is large enough to host a teak and stainless bench for
comfort; black sink and bath fittings ground the otherwise light palette.
What had been a generic studio apartment became a rich landscape for living.

Open concept kitchen - mid-sized cottage l-shaped dark wood floor and brown floor open concept kitchen idea in Orange County with a farmhouse sink, shaker cabinets, gray cabinets, marble countertops, white backsplash, ceramic backsplash, stainless steel appliances and an island

The homeowner's goal was to transform their home's production-grade Arrival Center into a stylish, functional space. The clients requested a clean uncluttered look for their entry.
A builder-grade arrival center—often just a small bench, a couple of hooks, and a shelf—can feel uninspired and underwhelming. It served a basic purpose for these clients; however it didn't reflect their personality or lifestyle.
By layering in thoughtful materials, textures, and storage solutions, it was instantly elevated from a generic drop zone into a welcoming, organized entry point that sets the tone for the rest of the home.
Custom bench cushions and accent pillows were added for comfort as well as for their ability to create an anchor color. A variety of simple vases, books and other accents along with a painting of their beloved family pet, completed the look.
