Thanks to the new spacious patio there is now a perfect spot available for outdoor dining. It’s conveniently situated just steps from the kitchen walkout and BBQ. Everyone’s appetite seems to be better too, especially after an afternoon of vigorous fun in the pool.

This pool’s 7’ deep end is not deep enough for diving, but the elevated wall is perfect for jumping into the pool over the waterfalls. The adjacent L-shaped underwater bench makes it easy to climb out. For adults it’s an underwater couch with spa jets and a favourite gathering spot to enjoy some therapeutic pampering.

The original interlocking pavers of the dining terrace below the kitchen walkout were removed. They were replaced with architectural stamped concrete ringed by stone coping to match the pool patio. On the far side of the terrace the original fountain/water feature and pergola lead to the second larger cabana.

To add visual interest and keep garden debris out of the pool, a full-length feature wall clad in Wiarton tiger stripe ledgerock was added along the hedge. The matching Wiarton pebble top coping of the pool complements the clean lines of the random rectangular saw cuts in the architectural stamped concrete patio.

An L-shaped bench provides an underwater couch with spa jets. It’s a favourite gathering spot for bathers to enjoy some therapeutic pampering. The entire backyard was designed for low maintenance to help the owners make efficient use of their time. An automated irrigation system has effectively eliminated watering chores.

The pool is fairly shallow with a seven foot deep end and three foot shallow end. Although not deep enough for diving, the elevated wall is the perfect place for kids to jump into the pool over the waterfalls. The adjacent underwater bench makes it easy to climb out. The three sheer descent waterfalls are both beautiful and practical as they help to soften the sounds of area traffic.

The pool features a Gold Pebble vinyl liner from Latham. The liner’s attachment channel is hidden beneath the overhanging coping giving it the appearance of a concrete pool. The gold pebble pattern of the liner mimics the look of an exposed aggregate interior and adds a soft aqua tone to the water.

The highlight of the pool is the trio of Essex fire bowels from Grand Effects. Their scuppers with sheer descent waterfalls add drama, while their premium oil rubbed, hammered copper finish perfectly complements the backyard’s palette of earth tones, including the pool’s gold pebble vinyl liner.

The pool’s gold pebble vinyl liner extends up to the coping which simulates the look of a concrete pool. A luxury feature is the in-floor cleaning system with popup jets that blow debris to the main drain and then up to a basket in the deck. This is invaluable with the prevailing winds dropping debris into the pool.

With backyard space taken by stairs down from the kitchen, there was only room for a custom 9.5’ x 17’ vinyl pool. It has a Gold Pebble liner and a 5 1/2’ deep end which allows the kids to jump in, splash around and tread water. The built-in Badu swim jet is used regularly for fitness and perfecting kayak paddling technique.

Twin sets of stairs lead down to the 13 x 24 vinyl pool. Since space is at a premium, the pool has custom vinyl over steel curved “wedding cake” walk-in steps instead of the normal moulded fibreglass steps. This leaves enough additional deck space for two chaise lounges.

As the warm glow of sunset gives way to nightfall, the outdoor lighting from the home along with the LED lights from the pool and spa help to set a relaxing tone. The Jandy control system allows all essential components to be controlled either remotely by smart phone or from the convenience of the home.

The spacious lounge area with sofas and chaise lounges is strategically placed to catch the sun throughout the day and avoid the shadows from the yard’s massive tree. The entrance gate to the backyard, along with the landscaping screen beside the house hiding two air conditioning units, both feature frosted glass panels.

The raised feature wall at the deep end serves as a diving platform over the sheer descent waterfall. A pool ladder on one side and underwater swim out bench on the other are handy for repeat attempts. The wall, constructed from Wiarton Tiger Stripe ledgerock, is a perfect match for the pool’s Gold Pebble vinyl liner.
