Our homeowners were looking for a garden where they could sit by the fire, grow vegetable and hear the sound of water. Their home was new construction in a modern farmhouse style. We used gravel and concrete as paving. Board formed concrete firepit keeps it feeling modern. The vegetable beds supply season vegetables and herbs.

From a distance, the forms appear heavy and monolithic, exuding an air of permanence and impenetrability. This initial perception provokes contemplation: is the finality of death merely an illusion? Yet, as you draw closer, subtle details emerge—textures of decay within these seemingly solid structures. This deliberate interplay between solidity and fragility invites deeper reflection on the impermanence of each phase of existence. The decay within the forms reveals the essence of transformation, challenging the notion of death as an ultimate end. Instead, it suggests a continuity—a pause in a greater, unending journey. These visual and spatial cues become a metaphor for the cyclical nature of life and death, offering solace in the understanding that what appears finite may, in fact, be part of an infinite process.

The black armoire houses toys, blankets and extra linens. The colorful artwork and small chair finish off the corner. The gray carpet with a subtle pattern is soft underfoot and the perfect backdrop for all of the pops of color dispersed through the large space. This Frankfort Home: Basement Family Room is a light airy space with pops of wonderful oranges and dark teals and proves that the basement does not have to be a dungeon or graveyard for your leftover furniture.

Rutter Project Management won for Walnut Creek in Ellicott City, MD. The Community consists of 160 one-acre cluster lots on well and septic. The original parcel included a forest recycling center, an airport, a nursery, a graveyard, several family owned homes and structures, streams, forest, and several high pressure gas main crossings from three different companies, an enormous obstacle in the development of the property.Unique to this project was the ability to avoid impacts to stream buffers and forest areas. With the purchase of additional density through the Howard County Density Exchange Program, the project is responsible for the permanent preservation of more than 524 acres of land. By importing density, and preserving 17 properties throughout western Howard County, the overall existing community now benefits by having 21 percent more land preserved than the original parcel included.
