The layout is practical and centers around the hob shifting to the island. This facilitates the cook’s visual engagement with guests yet is defined by a measured separation through changing levels.

The house forms a series of interlocking curved volumes that embrace and define space at the rear exterior. The interior unfolds in stages, from the owner's self-contained wing, to kitchen and dining, to larger entertaining spaces. From there, the steel and wood staircase leads to two bedrooms and two guest suites above. The design stresses transparency between inside and outdoors. Floor-to-ceiling windows run the length of the entertaining areas and terrace whose sweep ultimately engages the swimming pool.

This view from the end of the bar showcases the new view into the kitchen after the structural modifications have been made. Notice how the far window is no longer obstructed by the refrigerator and the large windows in the breakfast area are also unobstructed. This is one of the key factors in creating a bright, open floor plan. The updated floor plan also allows a clear view of the breakfast and bar area from the cook station. This is perfect for the cook to be engaged with guests while prepping, cooking, and washing dishes at the sink without be secluded by a dividing wall. This previously unused attic space is now a sauna/yoga room. The left sauna wall follows the attic rafters down diagonally to allow a wider space for leg room on the twin sauna benches.

This home in Napa off Silverado was rebuilt after burning down in the 2017 fires. Architect David Rulon, a former associate of Howard Backen, known for this Napa Valley industrial modern farmhouse style. Composed in mostly a neutral palette, the bones of this house are bathed in diffused natural light pouring in through the clerestory windows. Beautiful textures and the layering of pattern with a mix of materials add drama to a neutral backdrop. The homeowners are pleased with their open floor plan and fluid seating areas, which allow them to entertain large gatherings. The result is an engaging space, a personal sanctuary and a true reflection of it's owners' unique aesthetic. Inspirational features are metal fireplace surround and book cases as well as Beverage Bar shelving done by Wyatt Studio, painted inset style cabinets by Gamma, moroccan CLE tile backsplash and quartzite countertops.

This project converted a builder design with entry level finishes into an elegant, "L Shaped", entertaining space that fit the needs of an active family. Off white Omega painted cabinets with a timeless recessed panel door design set the tone for a transitional setting. Lennon granite was used to partner the cabinets with the grey tones in the large format tile splash and the warmth of the oak flooring. A window was removed from the cooking wall to simplify the space and organize the work triangle in a way that guests would know where to sit and multiple cooks could operate without a congested setting. The sink was placed on the large island to allow the cook to be able to engage with the family room and whoever sits at the stools. Products include Thermador / Viking / Wolf appliances, Omega Dynasty Lorring - Magnolia Cabinets, Amerock hardware, and American Hardwood Flooring - red oak flooring.

The proposal analyzes the site as a series of existing flows or “routes” across the landscape. The negotiation of both constructed and natural systems establishes the logic of the site plan and the orientation and organization of the new home. Conceptually, the project becomes a highly choreographed knot at the center of these routes, drawing strands in, engaging them with others, and propelling them back out again. The project’s intent is to capture and harness the physical and ephemeral sense of these latent natural movements as a way to promote in the architecture the wanderlust the surrounding landscape inspires. Neighboring Stanford and Palo Alto, Menlo Park is one of the most affluent and educated towns in the world. Not surprisingly, the streets are filled with splendid architecture. William Duff Architect (WDA) is among them, with a residence that certainly does not disappoint. Built on a flat site, the house continually engages the eye with shifting perspectives. WDA integrated high-end modern design and a commitment to green building for the Menlo Park house. It makes use of an existing foundation and innovative landscape. Cor-Ten steel, stained concrete mixed with fly ash, and Finnish birch plywood veneer are counterbalanced with green flourishes. For example, the house uses radiant floors, solar hot water, photovoltaic power and passive ventilation – with the help of several NanaWall installations

Located in the heart of Culver City, this clean, modern residence consists of a 3000sf main house and a 2000sf guest house which engage each other across a sloping lawn and pool. With pocketing and stacking floor to ceiling glass sliding doors, the dialogue between indoors and out is constant. Plaster, exposed steel, board-formed concrete and ipe siding are used inside and out, further blurring the distinction. The floor plan is open and fluid, yet maintains privacy on the narrow lot.
