The owners' desire for "classically traditional" with a lighter, brighter, and airier flavor than the neighborhood's popular, heavier Tuscan fare found expression in exterior materials and detailing that is simple in nature. The Nate Berkus-designed interiors complete the material and color palette with warm restraint. The home, designed for a family with an extreme focus on outdoor living and sports, includes a basement equipped with a home gym, batting cage, and steam room. Outdoor facilities include a sport court and putting green. Additional features of the home include a motor court with dual garages, separate guest quarters, and a walk-in cooler. The clients, receptive to the architect's exploration of multi-use spaces reflecting modern life, gained a laundry room which functions more as a home command station for a highly engaged mother than a place for chores. The multi-use room includes a washer and dryer, wrapping station, project area, winter storage, and her office. This elegant kitchen is conveniently located in the center of the space, keeping the cook engaged with guests. The island's gray cabinetry provides contrast to the white kitchen cabinets, quartzite countertops, and marble backsplash. The cabinets fill the 9' ceiling volume with lit glass-front displays at the top. The stools coordinate with the table and chairs as well as the sunroom, all in easily cleanable performance fabric. The custom pendant lights are elegant in their simplicity with linen shades and brushed nickel finishes, ending with teardrop Swarovski crystals.

Perched above the majestic Spokane River, The Whiskey River is a magnificent contemporary yet nostalgic home - the ultimate waterfront retreat. Featuring dual master Suites on the main level, expansive living space, a gourmet kitchen, cascading walls of windows capturing river views, large covered-patios and plenty of outdoor living areas. The casita offers guests complete privacy yet all the same benefits to enjoy river views. The spacious walk-out basement provides opportunities to engage in exercise, some pin ball, billiards or perhaps sip some aged bourbon in the private whiskey lounge.

This inviting backyard in Salt Point allows the homeowner to entertain guests in any weather. A large covered porch offers a seamless transition from inside the home to the fire pit and backyard seating areas. Connected by a stone path, a nearby pergola gives guests a place to congregate for engaging conversations.

Our services were engaged to refurbish the guest bathroom, which over time had become the wife's main bathroom. The design was driven by our Client's desire for maximized storage space within the confines of this small room. Lighting was selected for both general and task functions, as well as to create ambiance. The custom vanity with quartz counter-top, accomplished the task of maximizing storage. The new walk-in shower features a wall-mounted, rain showerhead, a hand-held shower wand, sliding doors, and a sleek safety bar. The colour pallet is subtle, mostly consisting of white with coloured and textured accents to help open up the space. Even though the new bathroom was designed with one person in mind, it can easily accommodate shared use between four people when there are guest.

_Client is a film and television exec who wants an engaging sitting area on the recreation and entertainment level of his residence _We create a lush VIP lounge adjacent to his home theater _Reface existing fireplace with four dark 47” x 98” porcelain panels _Bookend fireplace and surround with custom, high-back, channeled, velvet banquettes _Brass inset bands on face of fireplace create the presence of a mantel and mimic the horizontal channels on the banquettes _Modern brass and quartz sconces and a central gold starburst chandelier are all programmed to produce a variety of lighting options and atmospheres _Add gold textured wall covering between the coffers for diffused reflective illumination, which augments our layers of lighting and brings depth to the ceiling _Walls and columns are covered in a metallic faux bois paper product that reacts with dimension when illuminated _Yin/yang cocktail table purposely unites the dark, rich bronze tones with the room's warm, antique brass accents _Two pairs of gold nesting tables provide mobility and options for guests’ drinks and food _Drink tables with a polished brass base & black mirrored top accommodate guests at the banquettes _Lush fabrics and metallic pillows add glamour _Charcoal wool area rug anchors and warms the space _All doors, trim, and coffers are painted in the same dark, iron ore hue to help unify the space. _New VIP lounge offers both function and style for intimate conversations as well as high-profile parties

This project consisted of a total renovation of a 6,400 sf two story 1940 colonial home with a Kitchen, Family Room, Mudroom and three-car Garage Addition. The design and detailing of the home is traditional in style with built-in cabinetry, engaged pilasters, antique oak floors and sitting porch. The owners requested a Private Resort that catered to their love for entertaining friends and family, a place where 2 people would feel just as comfortable as 42. Located on the western edge of a Wisconsin lake, the site provides a range of natural ecosystems from forest to prairie to water, allowing the building to have a more complex relationship with the lake - not merely creating large unencumbered views in that direction. The gently sloping site to the lake is atypical in many ways to most lakeside lots - as its main trajectory is not directly to the lake views - allowing for focus to be pushed in other directions such as a courtyard and into a nearby forest. The biggest challenge was accommodating the large scale gathering spaces, while not overwhelming the natural setting with a single massive structure. Our solution was found in breaking down the scale of the project into digestible pieces and organizing them in a Camp-like collection of elements: - Main Lodge: Providing the proper entry to the Camp and a Mess Hall - Bunk House: A communal sleeping area and social space. - Party Barn: An entertainment facility that opens directly on to a swimming pool & outdoor room. - Guest Cottages: A series of smaller guest quarters. - Private Quarters: The owners private space that directly links to the Main Lodge. These elements are joined by a series green roof connectors, that merge with the landscape and allow the out buildings to retain their own identity. This Camp feel was further magnified through the materiality - specifically the use of Doug Fir, creating a modern Northwoods setting that is warm and inviting. The use of local limestone and poured concrete walls ground the buildings to the sloping site and serve as a cradle for the wood volumes that rest gently on them. The connections between these materials provided an opportunity to add a delicate reading to the spaces and re-enforce the camp aesthetic. The oscillation between large communal spaces and private, intimate zones is explored on the interior and in the outdoor rooms. From the large courtyard to the private balcony - accommodating a variety of opportunities to engage the landscape was at the heart of the concept.
