A dark backyard was given a new life with dramatic additions of built in planting beds, custom cut salvaged pavers, green screen trellis and a ton of charm. The reclaimed barn doors add a focal point to the east wall while the custom built two-tier planting system allows vines to fill this garden which spans two floors of the client's home.

Budget friendly cedar fence boards were used in the interior space. Since the space is unheated - the cedar boards fair well in the moderate climate of Seattle.

With the exception of the dining room, the first floor is open in all public areas, which perfectly accommodates Raymond's and Jennifer's penchant for entertaining. The painted black runner was added once Jennifer decided to remove the carpeting from the steps. It visually supports the decor of the rest of the room, and in turn becomes a highlight of the space rather than an afterthought. The arbor over the swing is intended to shade the sitting area in this hot yard as the sun comes from the left side of the swing. Evergreen Pandorea vines eventually grew over the top. The style mimicked that of the already existing pergola on the deck. The swing gives the family a resting place to watch people practicing on the putting green.
