Inspiration for a contemporary living room remodel in Oklahoma City

This project was basically a blank slate for a living/dining room with the ever-challenging sunroom extension of the living room. We bridged the living room into the sunroom with a bench so that it feels open. New furniture throughout, lighting, art some dramatic wallpaper and window treatments tie the first floor together. The hardest working space is in the back of the house though, where we added custom built-in cabinetry by the back door. Instead of matching the white kitchen, we chose to bring in green and a dash of walnut from the other furniture on that level. FUN FACT: The mudroom is multi-functional with two large coat cabinets, shoe storage, a key drop, overflow storage above and a hidden pull out desk. See it in action below. Dan D'Agostino, AIA Located in Montclair, coined Manhattan’s sixth borough, is a commuter town with progressive ideals. This modern renovation and addition to a 1960’s split level home is a statement of architecture consistent with the modern undertone to the city’s new development. A recessed minimal entry, through a six-foot pivot door, leads you to a light filled open plan Kitchen, Dining Room and Living Room marked abstract compositions of wall and window. The indoors are extended to the outdoor by way of a 13 foot sliding Nana wall. Minimalistically appointed, natural light is the main focus of this renovation. Our client valued the notion of a fresh home that with statement architecture. Zoning regulations presented an additional layer of complexity. Split level homes are typically the hardest to work one, we were able make several large modifications such as a widened stair, alignments between floors and a lofted 2 story Living Room tie the new to old.

The kitchen countertops are Silestone Eternal Calacatta Gold. “The client was in desperate need of a new kitchen,” said Lisa. “Their existing cabinet doors were literally falling off. We went through many design revisions and changes until we finally landed on the final design. They wanted to incorporate open shelving as well as some glass cabinetry, but was having a hard time envisioning where and how. In the end, it all came together for the client. One of my favorite things about the space is the live-edge wood tops as well as the overall flow of the layout. The old kitchen had an island that did not fit the space well that we redesigned. The matching wood hood in lieu of a traditional other the range microwave gave added a nice personal touch as well.” “The hardest part of the project was making selections. There are so many options,” said the client. “Lisa was integral to the success of this project. She was practical, realistic and challenged me to really think about my needs and what I was looking for. She was extremely patient and always willing to help me and answer all of my questions throughout the process.” “Her best suggestion was not to think about what anyone else says and choose what I would love, and I’m so glad I did! Kayla Carter of Reico Kitchen & Bath in Wilmington, NC, collaborated with Adam Aberte to design a traditional-style kitchen featuring Green Forest Cabinetry in the Brookside door style with a Glazed Ivory finish. The space is complemented by Silestone Lusso countertops and Wow Fez White tile. The client shared, “The hardest part of this remodeling project was making decisions. Kayla was key to the success of this project. She was patient, understanding, and always had a positive attitude. Her taste and help with color and design were invaluable. What I love most about my new kitchen is how beautiful and functional it is. With all the new drawer storage and improved accessibility, there are no more dead zones.” Kayla added, “The biggest challenge was working with a small space, so we focused on adding storage, especially with roll-out tray drawers, to make the most of it. Designed by Kelsey McDaniel of Reico Kitchen & Bath in Richmond, VA this bathroom remodeling project features a transitional style inspired design with Merillat Classic cabinets in the door style Rowan in the Mist finish paired with Vicostone countertops in Valley White with 1/4" Bevel Edge. The bathroom includes Kohler fixtures along with Marazzi Blue Gray Matte 8" Hex floor tile, Roca Statuary White 4 x 10 Subway shower wall tile, MSI Stone Blend Glass 12 x 12 Sheets shower accent tile and Marazzi Blue Gray Matte 1 1/2" Hex shower floor tile. “I am in love with my new bathroom,” said the client. “I have a gorgeous free standing bathtub that is the first thing your eyes settle on as you step into the room and is the centerpiece of the entire room while still allowing plenty of room to walk around to the windows and rest of the room.” “The hardest part of the remodeling project was envisioning how to use the existing space in a different and more user friendly way. My Reico designer Kelsey was invaluable in this regard and helped me to create the bathroom I had always hoped to have. I am extremely happy and grateful that I went to Reico for my project.” “The biggest design challenge of this space was to maximize the entirety of the bathroom without making it feel overly done. The client had a desire to enlarge the shower, remove the existing jacuzzi and surround, as well as incorporate a soaking tub for relaxation,” said Kelsey. “Because this was a massive space, we wanted to incorporate larger tile for a pop of color and dimension to reel in the openness a bit and draw your eye inward. We offset that dark tile with satin nickel fixtures, light cabinets, and light counter tops. It was a perfect balance of contrast throughout. Angel Bouchelle of Reico Kitchen and Bath in Annapolis, MD designed a transitional-inspired kitchen featuring Merillat Classic Cabinetry. The base cabinets are the Ralston full overlay door style in Maple with a Boardwalk finish. The wall and pantry cabinets, also Ralston, have a Chiffon finish. The kitchen also features Cambria Everleigh countertops. The client expressed their satisfaction, saying, "I love the design that Angel and Reico implemented! We now have so much light and better use of space. The additional storage makes it much more functional and organized than our old kitchen. I particularly love my special vinegar cabinet which is home to my collection!” Angel noted, "The hardest part of this project was taking standard cabinetry and customizing it to meet the client's needs. We wanted to ensure that the additional storage space maintained an uninterrupted flow throughout the kitchen. This was a simple bathroom remodel but with a slew of challenges to overcome. We were confined to a very small space however we needed to redesign this bathroom to fit the needs of a master bath setup. Adding the archway over the shower/tub and the custom shelving really gave some style to the room and added some much needed storage, we also tried our hardest to make the vanity a true centerpiece with the backsplash and all of the additions.

Zachary Schiller of Reico Kitchen and Bath in Chesapeake, VA collaborated with Casey Hall to design a contemporary inspired kitchen and pantry featuring Merillat Classics cabinetry. The kitchen showcases the Glenrock door style in Maple with a Cotton finish for the wall cabinetry, and the Nightfall finish for the base cabinetry and decorative range hood. Similarly, the pantry features Glenrock Maple in a Cotton finish for the perimeter cabinets, with an island in the Nightfall finish. Appliances and countertops were provided by others. “The hardest part of the project was making decisions with so many great choices. Zach was extremely patient and helped guide us to make the right choices. I love the color and quality of cabinets; the end panels and crown moldings make things look beautiful and more expensive. Nancy Knickerbocker of Reico Kitchen and Bath in Southern Pines, NC, worked with Chris Sowell to design a traditional-style kitchen with Masterpiece cabinetry. The cabinets are in the Rockwell door style, in Maple with a Cognac finish, paired with Cambria Brittanicca Warm countertops. The kitchen also includes a 3x12 and 3x6 Bashful Beige Silk backsplash, a KitchenAid Induction Range, and a Whirlpool range vent. The clients shared, “The hardest part of the remodel was waiting. We were eager to get started. It’s hard to pick just one favorite feature, but the transformation of our kitchen was amazing. Nancy did a great job blending the colors and textures of the countertop and wall tiles. We love the in-cabinet trash bin and the corner lazy susan. The space couldn’t be expanded, so Nancy used the existing footprint to create a kitchen that is both beautiful and functional. She handled any issues quickly and professionally. It was a very good experience.” Nancy added, "The kitchen needed an update to match the rest of the house. While the layout stayed the same, we improved functionality and added storage with new cabinetry. Extending the cabinets to the ceiling and adding a lazy susan were key to making the space more efficient. My favorite part is the Cambria countertop. It’s durable and brings everything together.
