Creating a space to entertain was the top priority in this Mukwonago kitchen remodel. The homeowners wanted seating and counter space for hosting parties and watching sports. By opening the dining room wall, we extended the kitchen area. We added an island and custom designed furniture-style bar cabinet with retractable pocket doors. A new awning window overlooks the backyard and brings in natural light. Many in-cabinet storage features keep this kitchen neat and organized. Bar Cabinet The furniture-style bar cabinet has retractable pocket doors and a drop-in quartz counter. The homeowners can entertain in style, leaving the doors open during parties. Guests can grab a glass of wine or make a cocktail right in the cabinet. Outlet Strips Outlet strips on the island and peninsula keeps the end panels of the island and peninsula clean. The outlet strips also gives them options for plugging in appliances during parties. Modern Farmhouse Design The design of this kitchen is modern farmhouse. The materials, patterns, color and texture define this space. We used shades of golds and grays in the cabinetry, backsplash and hardware. The chevron backsplash and shiplap island adds visual interest. Custom Cabinetry This kitchen features frameless custom cabinets with light rail molding. It’s designed to hide the under cabinet lighting and angled plug molding. Putting the outlets under the cabinets keeps the backsplash uninterrupted. Storage Features Efficient storage and organization was important to these homeowners. We opted for deep drawers to allow for easy access to stacks of dishes and bowls. Under the cooktop, we used custom drawer heights to meet the homeowners’ storage needs. A third drawer was added next to the spice drawer rollout. Narrow pullout cabinets on either side of the cooktop for spices and oils. The pantry rollout by the double oven rotates 90 degrees. Other Updates Staircase – We updated the staircase with a barn wood newel post and matte black balusters Fireplace – We whitewashed the fireplace and added a barn wood mantel and pilasters.

The kitchen design features Merillat Classic kitchen cabinets in Portrait door style with 5 piece drawer head in 2 finishes. The wall cabinets features a painted white Cotton finish and the base cabinets feature a painted grey Graphite finish. Kitchen countertops are engineered quartz in the color Carrera Marmi from Q by MSI. The kitchen also features a stunning blue herringbone tile back splash with 3x10 tiles. According to the client, "Akram solved a fundamental function problem that I could not see a solution for. His re-imagining of how the main floor of our home could function was a dramatic shift that I can't wait to experience as part of day-to-day life. Inspiration for a mid-sized cottage medium tone wood floor enclosed kitchen remodel in Minneapolis with an undermount sink, shaker cabinets, green cabinets, granite countertops, multicolored backsplash, glass tile backsplash, colored appliances and a peninsula

This kitchen is the perfect example of how a space can be contemporary and warm and inviting. We utilized a two-tone cabinetry palette; the perimeter cabinets are a painted white MDF shaker door style and the island cabinetry is an Ethiopia stained raised panel Cherry wood. We brought in a warm-grey toned subway tile backsplash that extends up to the ceiling, and used the same tile to create a herringbone design feature above the range. We used accent tiles to add an extra detail throughout. This two-level counter is perfect for entertaining guests and spacious enough to seat at least four bar stools. Stainless appliances bring a more contemporary feel to the kitchen. Overall, the marriage of various neutral tones and textures creates a cohesive and enticing kitchen.

The colorful kitchen also takes advantage of custom art glass in order to block unwanted views. The design of the custom concrete counter and backsplash flows into the art glass effortlessly, and both are sharply accentuated by stainless steel appliances (such as a range hood which also flows with the movement of both custom pieces). The final design feature of the Kitchen is the back-painted glass backsplash behind the range. The Kitchen has so many different textures and materials and colors, that the Owners and the Architect felt the backsplash had to be as minimal as possible. The back paint was custom mixed to match the adjacent wall paint. (the lighting for the photo creates a color shift in the glass). The glass is Starfire glass, a high quality tempered glass that allows the true color to come through. The backsplash was custom cut and installed by Hartman Glass, Metal and MIrror of Tucson, AZ.
