At the Penthouse Level of this beautiful luxury Miami Beach building our client added 2 Bioclimatic Louver Systems over their Summer Kitchen and Spa Area. The South Side of the terrace is a freestanding system and also includes 2 MagnaTrack Solar Screens for additional shade and privacy. On the North side of the terrace we anchored our Louver system to the rear of their Spa with support columns in front. Both systems were installed directly to the terrace with hidden anchor plates. As these systems are installed on a rooftop, a bioclimatic louver system is the ideal shade structure for Florida's sub-tropical climate. During storms with heavy wind they simply open the system to allow the wind to pass through, not worrying about any potential uplift from the storm.

An original Cabbagetown cottage was fully renovated and expended so that the original facade was restored but unchanged. As a result, a traditional landscape befitting of a Victorian garden streetscape was required for the front yard. Simultaneously, a modern approach was needed in the rear yard to make the most of a deep lot with a garage potentially acting as a barrier in the middle. A custom wrought iron fence and mature trees and boxwood hedging added the classical formal touches for this front landscape. A multi-level deck and steps serviced the garage and new spa with a custom water feature fabricated from Corten steel panels and a traditional design. A seating area with a custom cedar façade and metal pergola created a secluded dining space, and a flagstone path leads past an outdoor shower to a hidden fire pit area.

Our clients in Tower Lakes, IL, needed more storage and functionality from their kitchen. They were primarily focused on finding the right combination of cabinets, shelves, and drawers that fit all their cookware, flatware, and appliances. They wanted a brighter, bigger space with a natural cooking flow and plenty of storage. Soffits and crown molding needed to be removed to make the kitchen feel larger. Redesign elements included: relocating the fridge, adding a baking station and coffee bar, and placing the microwave in the kitchen island. Advance Design Studio’s Claudia Pop offered functional, creative, and unique solutions to the homeowners’ problems. Our clients wanted a unique kitchen that was not completely white, a balance of design and function. Claudia offered functional, creative, and unique solutions to Chad and Karen’s kitchen design challenges. The first thing to go was soffits. Today, most kitchens can benefit from the added height and space; removing soffits is nearly always step one. Steely gray-blue was the color of choice for a freshly unique look bringing a sophisticated-looking space to wrap around the fresh new kitchen. Cherry cabinetry in a true brown stain compliments the stormy accents with sharp contrasting white Cambria quartz top balancing out the space with a dramatic flair. “We wanted something unique and special in this space, something none of the neighbors would have,” said Claudia. The dramatic veined Cambria countertops continue upward into a backsplash behind three complimentary open shelves. These countertops provide visual texture and movement in the kitchen. The kitchen includes two larder cabinets for both the coffee bar and baking station. The kitchen is now functional and unique in design. “When we design a new kitchen space, as designers, we are always looking for ways to balance interesting design elements with practical functionality,” Claudia said. “This kitchen’s new design is not only way more functional but is stunning in a way a piece of art can catch one’s attention.” Decorative mullions with mirrored inserts sit atop dual sentinel pantries flanking the new refrigerator, while a 48″ dual fuel Wolf range replaced the island cooktop and double oven. The new microwave is cleverly hidden within the island, eliminating the cluttered counter and attention-grabbing wall of stainless steel from the previous space. The family room was completely renovated, including a beautifully functional entertainment bar with the same combination of woods and stone as the kitchen and coffee bar. Mesh inserts instead of plain glass add visual texture while revealing pristine glassware. Handcrafted built-ins surround the fireplace. These homeowners’ main concern was to update the style and function, as well as having quality materials that would stand the test of time. They wanted updated, gray cabinets; but didn’t want to lose any of the warm feeling of their home. Together with our design team they chose a light, warm gray for the perimeter cabinets and a darker gray to make the island a focal piece. The warm, light colored quartz countertops blend with the lighter gray and contrast nicely with the island. The textured dark blue backsplash tile adds a fun and exciting pop of color without stealing attention from any of the other pieces. To further maintain the warmth, they chose a rich walnut flooring with bold grain patterns. When the homeowners fell in love with some contemporary brass colored light fixtures, they were nervous that they would compete with their stainless steel appliances and other silver toned pieces. By keeping all the lights in the same color family, we were able to achieve a look that feels intentional and modern. The corner 3-light pendant adds light and interest to the space. Not wanting to take up wall cabinet space with a bulky microwave, they opted for one built into a base cabinet. The other small appliances are neatly hidden away behind custom appliance garages. For the fireplace, we focused on a clean, bright look that would stand out and look beautiful without competing with the neighboring kitchen. A small powder bathroom was also reorganized to better utilize the potential storage space and add counter space for guests. The style of the kitchen cabinetry was incorporated into the bathroom as well as into the dining room, which featured glass front cabinets to display dishes and mementos. The redesigned space resulted in a warm and beautiful kitchen and dining area that will be enjoyed for years to come. The main floor living space now feels as cohesive as it was always meant to.

When approached by the client for this particular project, their primary goal was a comprehensive kitchen remodel that also involved transforming an underused closet into a hidden walk-in pantry. After consultation with the clients, K. Rue Designs provided a rendering of the potential the great room fireplace wall. Coordinating with the exisitng TV and firebox location, the wall was still completely transformed and dramatized for the clients desired effect. An almost exact replica of the rendering was produced. With special help from the contractor, this gorgeous molding treatment on an otherwise plain wall was created. An intricate faux iron piece especially made for this fireplace trim out keeps one ventilation outlet completely hidden. As for the other, a white vent cover does its best to fade into the white molding. Splitface stone covers the fireplace in a textural display. New lighting on the floor and faceplace front create a dewy glow with the large windows.
