Blanchard Mountain Farm, a small certified organic vegetable farm, sits in an idyllic location; where the Chuckanut Mountains come down to meet the Samish river basin. The owners found and fell in love with the land, knew it was the right place to start their farm, but realized the existing farmhouse was riddled with water damage, poor energy efficiency, and ill-conceived additions. Our remodel team focused their efforts on returning the farmhouse to its craftsman roots, while addressing the structure’s issues, salvaging building materials, and upgrading the home’s performance. Despite removing the roof and taking the entire home down to the studs, we were able to preserve the original fir floors and repurpose much of the original roof framing as rustic wainscoting and paneling. The indoor air quality and heating efficiency were vastly improved with the additions of a heat recovery ventilator and ductless heat pump. The building envelope was upgraded with focused air-sealing, new insulation, and the installation of a ventilation cavity behind the cedar siding. All of these details work together to create an efficient, highly durable home that preserves all the charms a century old farmhouse. Working six days a week, we ensured the project was finished in time for their return to Palm Beach for the winter season. Every design detail was meticulously curated to reflect their unique style and needs. When they arrived for the big reveal, they were thrilled to discover a stunning, entirely transformed home tailored specifically for them.

This project was a return client who wanted us to create usable space in their basement. We did a complete underpinning of the house to construct a spacious, inviting basement which features 9' feet ceilings, exposed bricks and beams, a new guest bedroom which doubles as a home office, a bathroom, a laundry room and family room, with ample storage space as well. We also built a custom garage, and designed a lovely back patio for gatherings with family and friends.

Warmth is bought into the home with its fresh new arrangements of colour. Warm white slabbed fronts, textured fluting with white oak also received in the hardware to the hidden fridge. Beige is introduced to the colour palette through the benchtops, honed Diamond Creme porcelain slabs cladd walls and elevate the high point of the stairs with its return. A beautifully finished home that my youngest couple will endlessly enjoy.

This young family was ready for a new, fresh and updated look to their house. They wanted a totally different color scheme and vibe and needed it finished within 6 weeks to be ready for a party of 100+ people they were hosting. I was happy to help! Even though many items that were selected were on back order and needed to be replaced, they kept their spirits high after countless returns and exchanges. Although art was being framed a day before the party and decor was being installed at the last minute, we pulled it together and accomplished our goal of finishing on time! The easiest (and most cost effective!) way to change the feeling of a space is with color, so that’s what I did. I swapped out the tired burgundy/browns for a clean palette of blues and greys. In the family room, a new custom sectional in a neutral grey took place of the brown leatherette sofa. A blue accent chair was placed in the room to brighten that corner. Patterned drapes were hung for privacy and added texture. Colorful artwork and a Moroccan print area rug livened up the space. Many of the accessories and decor throughout the home were sourced at Home Goods, Target and Ikea. The only piece of furniture that was kept in the entire home was the dining table, chairs and bar stools. The head chairs were swapped out for swanky upholstered navy ones with a nail head trim. A custom cornice to match the chairs was installed in the kitchen to hide the existing roller shades. The bar stools were reupholstered in the same fabric and some throw pillows for the sofa were made in the navy velvet as well. A Z Gallerie chandelier and blue pendants were installed for a little added drama. The fireplace got a makeover with a fresh coat of white paint and tile mosaic. Their daughter wanted a beach theme bedroom, so that’s what she got! New blue walls, drapes and accessories brought the ocean to this room. Their son has taken a liking to super heroes and Legos. A red, blue and yellow color palette with bold stripes helped to create a fun, playful space for him to enjoy his Legos and super heroes. The master bedroom got a new look with updated furnishings and colorful, yet soothing, bedding. New drapes, an area rug and accessories help pull together this peaceful sanctuary. The bathroom got a makeover with a new vanity, tile mosaic back splash, new lighting and tile on the floor and shower.

I recently visited a customer living in the village of Ravensthorpe, just outside Northampton to rejuvenate a 15-year-old multi coloured Chinese riven slate floor that needed a deep professional clean. Slate is a hard-wearing tile used for flooring high traffic areas but does need sealing to bring out its best features. In this case the sealer had long since worn off and dirt had become ingrained in the stone making it difficult to clean effectively. We discussed the client’s requirements and the cleaning process I planned to follow to rejuvenate the floor. I had to check on availability, so I e-mailed over a quote and some dates later that day. They were happy with my proposal and agreed for the work to be done whilst the customers were on holiday. My first task was to test a small area to determine which products would give the best results. In this case, I decided to start with a strong dilution of Tile Doctor Remove and Go which is a strong alkaline cleaner/coatings remover that’s safe to use on Tile and Stone. I spread this solution across a section of the floor and left it to seep into the pores of the stone and lift out the ingrained dirt. After allowing the solution adequate time to dwell, I scrubbed the slate with a carbon brush fitted to a rotary machine to gradually reveal the fantastic natural colours of the Slate hidden beneath the dirt. Happy with my choice of cleaning product I repeated this process in sections until it had been carried out throughout the entire area. Following this, I rinsed the entire floor several times with clean water, before soaking up the resulting soiled residue with a wet vacuum. The next part of the cleaning process entailed paying attention to the grout lines which were scrubbed using Tile Doctor Grout Clean-Up. The resulting residue was promptly extracted with the wet vacuum and I finished by giving the whole floor a rinse with Tile Doctor pH Neutral Tile Cleaner. This is a day to day tile cleaning product which is recommended for stone floors, many supermarket tile cleaning products are only suitable for ceramic tiles due to their acidic formula and can damage a floor over years of use so you should always read the label. However, I always leave my clients with a complimentary bottle of a suitable Tile Doctor product to maintain their floors. The floor was left to dry off overnight and I returned on the second day to seal the floor. Before starting I checked the floor was dry using a damp meter which confirmed the Slate was dry and ready to seal. The floor must be completely dry before sealing as any excess moisture has the potential to the damage the performance of the sealer. Since my client had specifically requested a silk finish, I opted to use Tile Doctor Seal and Go which dries to leave a lovely subtle sheen that really enhances the look of the stone. Five coats were applied to ensure a good hard-wearing protection. My client was very pleased with the results, particularly as they hadn’t realised how much colour it had lost over the years and left the following feedback on our website. ”I despaired of having a clean-looking floor again. This remodel was designed to celebrate the original use of the structure, focusing on a 1930’s automobile theme. The design features ample storage without overbearing wall cabinets and also, vintage looking appliances. The homeowner wanted to remove the soffit and rework the supply and return air to better balance the temperature in the space. To do so, the entire space was reinsulated with closed cell insulation to provide the best insulation for our cold winters and hot summers. The homeowner opted for a custom artisan hood paired with metal open shelves to tie into the industrial era of the original space from the 1930s. The Matte Black with Bronze accents paired with vintage hardware on the range also picks up on the details of the Classic cars once parked in this coach house. The silkscreen marble tiles appear to be wallpaper yet is both heat resistant and effective for these aspiring chefs The enlarged island now can seat four and houses a larger sink with trash bins that open with a tap of the knee. As per the client’s request, the refrigerator now blends into the cabinetry appearing more like the tall cabinets on the south wall than an appliance. The new kitchen is not only stunning but practical as it has double the storage or the old kitchen without lining the room with cabinetry.

We were hired by Vice Media to design and install several very large pantries in their new corporate HQ in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY. We have returned to install many spaces for them from winter 2015 though Fall 2016.

Details below of a restorative clean and seal that I recently completed on a Quarry tiled hallway at a house in the small village of Riseley, North Bedfordshire. The floor was a mix of fantastic black and red tiles; however, it had lost its character after a long period without professional maintenance. My client commissioned me to strip off the old sealer from the floor and replace it, but not before providing a thorough clean, including tackling some adhesive staining and inherent grout haze. The first task involved mixing our high alkaline cleaner, known as Tile Doctor Pro-Clean, with water to form a strong solution. The solution was applied to the tiled floor and left to dwell for a short period. This dwelling time allows for the Pro-Clean to seep into the stone to get underneath the ingrained dirt and lift it out. Pro-Clean also contains stripping properties, and thus helped to break down the old (and now ineffectual) sealer. After completing this initial clean I rinsed the floor using a standard mop and bucket method. With the old sealer removed, it became evident that there was also plaster residue marking the tiles, as well as inherent grout haze on the surface of the tile probably from the original installation. To tack these problems I used Tile Doctor Grout Clean-Up, which is an acid-based cleaner that dissolves the adhesive and the grout. Being an acid you have to be careful and ensure the floor is rinsed thoroughly after use and if you’re considering using this product yourself read the label and make sure you use the right protective equipment. After the floor was thoroughly rinsed with water it was dried as much as possible using a wet vacuum which literally sucks the water off the floor. The floor was then left to dry for four days, with the help of several air movers. By the time I returned to the house, the floor was completely dry and ready to take the seal. I opted to use a combination of sealers, including one coat of our colour enhancing, impregnating sealer, known as Colour Grow, followed by three coats of Tile Doctor Seal & Go to provide a truly robust and aesthetically pleasing surface seal.
