Character and charm are abundant in this main floor remodel. The home edged toward a traditional style going in and we chose to honor this feel and carry it throughout while updating the space. From a space-planning perspective, the first volley was to remove the wall between the kitchen and dining room and let the light shine in. And shine in it does! The numerous windows stayed in place and now do their job allowing light to flow from room to room. Those very windows are trimmed in natural white oak and paired with arched wood-cased openings to add warmth to the scene. Wood beams between the kitchen and the family room and new stone on the fireplace add a nuanced rustic touch while keeping with the overall feel of the home. These organic elements beautifully offset the crisp whites and blues found everywhere you look. A patterned tile offers visual interest in the backsplash and travels from the counters to the ceiling bringing the eye with it. The Rahimi brothers came into our showroom and consulted with Jodi for their custom home build. At Castle Kitchens, we are able to help all customers including builders with meeting their budget and providing them with great designs for their end customer. We worked closely with the builder duo by looking after their project from design to installation. The final outcome was a design that ensured the best layout, balance, proportion, symmetry, designed to suit the style of the property. Our kitchen design team was a great resource for our customers with regard to mechanical and electrical input, colours, appliance selection, accessory suggestions, etc. We provide overall design services! The project features walnut accents all throughout the house that help add warmth into a modern space allowing it be welcoming. Castle Kitchens was ultimately able to provide great design at great value to allow for a great return on the builders project. Our client contacted us regarding the fireplace he was building in his new home. He decided to be a general contractor and build his house himself, he bought blue prints over the internet. However after framing the home he realized that his fireplace in the main portion of the house was out of proportion . He wanted this fireplace to be the focal point of his home. Client’s Desires: • Larger Fireplace • Wall of Stone • Large Mantel proportion to the size of the fireplace When we first meet our client at his new home, the framing of the fireplace was approx. 6 feet wide and 18 ft. high. After talking to him, we both felt that the fireplace needed to be a lot larger to give that dramatic look, he was looking for. We also suggested, because the wall wrapped into the kitchen that he should have a two sided fireplace with the other side facing his kitchen. We started by re-framing the fireplace to 12.5 feet wide, because of the size we enlarged the insert to 48" opening. We realized when ordering the stone for the fireplace that the weight of the stone was going to be very heavy. When looking at the framing of the house, we got an structural engineer involved to determine the stone weight and beams in the home and that the wall was not a load bearing wall. It was determined that we had to add an additional 6 LVL beams between the two load barring steel beams, to support the weight of the stone. The stone is a 70/30 mix to give it a more rustic look, we wrapped the stone around the wall into the kitchen to give it a beefy look. We had two custom mantels made, the living room mantel is made of alder wood and is 8.5 feet long with a two tier step with custom corbels. The homeowner chose a distress look. The kitchen mantel is more elegant with custom molding to match their kitchen cabinets.

Smiles, handshakes, high fives, and hugs all convey welcome; but, as I tell our three boys, your choice of greeting, sends a greater message than just, “hi”. A firm handshake and eye contact says a lot about you and how you regard the other person. Homes greet us, too. A home’s entrance sends a message, whether formal like a handshake or warm like a hug, it greets guests and owners with the same message. A mudroom entrance might invite a guest into the heart of the home like an old friend, or a formal entry may give a guest pause to look around and gauge the home’s owner by the impression left on the guest. One of our Red House “clients for life” is a couple that bought a builder grade development home in RI. After taking care of some high priority functional & aesthetic remodeling (a new master bathroom and walk-in closet), the owners contacted Red House again to finally upgrade the front door & entry to the home. The original, a low-end entry door from a big box store, had finally reached the end of its’ usable life. It was leaking air and starting to rust. It didn’t live up to the aesthetic improvements the owners had made in other areas of the home, and, it no longer served its purpose to shelter and protect or to welcome and greet. After gauging the space, we realized that with a few minor adjustments to the entry area, we could add some paneling above the door and center a window feature in the foyer. These details created a elegant, yet warm, formality. A three-quarter glass door with a unique window patter provides warm light and an openness that creates the friendly invitation of a true home. The newly remodeled space speaks to the quality standards of the owners of the home, and, in turn, it will continue to inform the identity of the family while they live there.
