I designed the boardwalk and steps as well as the boulder garden walls used to terrace the slope. Please notice the gravel area along side the boardwalk. This is an off path sitting area. The boulders were used to create a natural bench. Bragar Landscape not only builds rustic gardens, I am versatile and can fit the landscape to the owner's preferred style.

During excavation for this new modern home, large granite boulders rose to the surface from the primordial hillside. Instead of displacing these monoliths from the site from which they were created, they were arranged to define space. A circle of boulders stand guard around a custom built fire pit, providing protection from the wind while offering a place to climb or sit. The extended landscape view from the lawn is kept intact by the introduction of a ha-ha, a traditional landscape feature, that hides the productive garden and keeps it from breaking the view. Native and drought tolerant plantings hug the outer edges of the property for minimal use of irrigation and to visually blend into the surrounding hillside. This project also features a custom ipe bench with integrated lighting, waterjet address numbers with night lighting, and hardscape that complements the form and materiality of the architecture to create a harmonious transition into the horizontal plane.

The path leading up to the steps to the patio provides a generous transition to the stroll garden and steps down to the lower level. This shot also gives a good perspective on how the garden works with the house.

Photo by Bragar Landscaping. I designed this patio at the top of the hillside. I chose to use a permeable type of patio surface, allowing water to percolate into the soil below the patio. Please notice my curved garden wall and the way the bull nose brick follow the curve. My masonry usually has curves and I have developed a few methods to insure the curves are nearly perfect. In addition I construct wood structures such as patio covers, trellises, gates, and garden dividers.

These natural stone steps connect the woodland garden with the wee bit of lawn along the house.

The stones steps are local stone placed in such a way to make the climb and descent comfortable to traverse. Often natural stone steps have varying sized risers and treads that make their use difficult. We strive to make it not only beautiful but functional.

In this extensive landscape transformation, Campion Walker took a secluded house nestled above a running stream and turned it into a multi layered masterpiece with five distinct ecological zones.
Using an established oak grove as a starting point, the team at Campion Walker sculpted the hillsides into a magnificent wonderland of color, scent and texture. Natural stone, copper, steel, river rock and sustainable Ipe hardwood work in concert with a dynamic mix of California natives, drought tolerant grasses and Mediterranean plants to create a truly breathtaking masterpiece where every detail has been considered, crafted, and reimagined.
