This MossCreek custom designed family retreat features several historically authentic and preserved log cabins that were used as the basis for the design of several individual homes. MossCreek worked closely with the client to develop unique new structures with period-correct details from a remarkable collection of antique homes, all of which were disassembled, moved, and then reassembled at the project site. Designed by the architects at Historical Concepts, Stemwinder Camp is a custom Craftsman-style cottage located in the private, gated Balsam Mountain Preserve of western North Carolina. Thoughtful detailing and bright, sun-filled interiors blend traditional Craftsman principles with a contemporary touch. Outdoors, a custom stone firepit overlooking the mountains serves as a focal point for gathering and relaxation, perfectly complementing the home’s craftsmanship and its breathtaking mountain setting.

The “Stemwinder Camp” home is located in the beautiful Balsam Mountain Preserve community, a private, gated mountain, golf, and equestrian enclave in the western North Carolina mountains. The thoughtful details and design of this craftsman-style cottage provide every room with a sunny, bright interior. In the living room, a beautiful yet subtle fireplace adds warmth and quiet elegance without overpowering the space. Stemwinder Camp incorporates carefully crafted elements that create a contemporary feel while honoring classic craftsman design principles.

A newly finished basement apartment in one of Portland’s gorgeous historic homes was a beautiful canvas for ATIID to create a warm, welcoming guest house. Area rugs provided rich texture, pattern and color inspiration for each room. Comfortable furnishings, cozy beds and thoughtful touches welcome guests for any length of stay. Our Signature Cocktail Table and Perfect Console and Cubes are showcased in the living room, and an extraordinary original work by Molly Cliff-Hilts pulls the warm color palette to the casual dining area. Custom window treatments offer texture and privacy. We provided every convenience for guests, from luxury layers of bedding and plenty of fluffy white towels to a kitchen stocked with the home chef’s every desire. Welcome home!

Located near Ennis, Montana, this cabin captures the essence of rustic style while maintaining modern comforts. Jack Watkins’ father, the namesake of the creek by which this home is built, was involved in the construction of the Old Faithful Lodge. He originally built the cabin for he and his family in 1917, with small additions and upgrades over the years. The new owners’ desire was to update the home to better facilitate modern living, but without losing the original character. Windows and doors were added, and the kitchen and bathroom were completely remodeled. Well-placed porches were added to further integrate the interior spaces to their adjacent exterior counterparts, as well as a mud room—a practical requirement in rural Montana. Today, details like the unique juniper handrail leading up to the library, will remind visitors and guests of its historical Western roots.

The home, custom-designed home was made from a mixture of materials. About 75 percent of the house is full Swedish-cope log with chinking—all Douglas fir logs ranging from 9 inches to 18 inches in diameter—and saddle-notched corners. The rest of the home is conventionally framed and covered with Rocky Mountain’s dovetail siding and historical board and batt siding to enhance the home’s turn-of-the-century frontier appeal
