The variability of these low-growing, native plant materials halts rolling embers more readily than turf or hardscape. They will also hold hydration better than turf and non-native foliage, although we do not leave that to chance! Hydrozoned, low-flow, subsurface drip irrigation on weather based controllers ensures the foliage gets just the right amount of water. Much of the non-native foliage, which can struggle in LA's climate, is placed in contained gardens, so it can easily be protected from the elements. Unlike accent grasses, succulents hold hydration and pose little danger when potted and well maintained. Ceramic pots will not burn. Like low foliage, they can be placed to keep embers from drifting against vulnerable areas of a home. This photo was taken in 2009, prior to the requirement for a Zone 0. We piped roof rainwater via an existing downspout into this streambed of cobble to allow it to infiltrate during rain events to help hydrate the soil and prevent more water from reaching the ocean without infiltration. ©Ecology Artisans

Elegant kitchen photo in Atlanta

For this master bathroom, we wanted our clients to feel they have their own separate area, keeping the vanities spacious yet intimate. With custom cabinets, we were able to offer each of them plenty of accessible space, including six full drawers of storage on each vanity and ample countertop space. A bench was designed to sit below a large picture window, allowing for a place of relaxation. Stunning quartz countertops tie all three surfaces together. Large plank tile in warm neutral tones - both gloss and matte finish - was used on the floor, as well as the walls to achieve a subtle, yet sophisticated feel. Brushed bronze plumbing fixtures add to the rich warmth of the space. Above the freestanding tub and aside each vanity, the crystal globed light fixtures add an elegant finishing touch. A spacious walk-in shower is located behind the tub. The same tile is carried into the shower which also features pebble tile accents. To make this space even more unique, a sauna was included in the design and sits adjacent to the shower. A brushed brass drinking fountain sits just outside the sauna for much needed hydration. A separate water closet and seated makeup room adds even more to this space that will have you asking, is this my bathroom or a luxury spa?

A decomposed granite patio wrapped in greenery sits at the back of the property. A low brick bench wraps the fence side of the patio, adding a sense that the umbrella-shaded chairs are nestled and protected. Ready fuel for fire, when not in use, the umbrella fabric and furniture cushions are stored indoors. the wood fence is separated from the structure by well-hydrated and maintained foliage.

Sprinkler systems should reach every blade of grass, and deliver just the right amount of hydration. These systems are designed to prevent run off, overspray, and other conditions where water flows into non-targeted areas such as neighboring properties, hardscapes or other structures.

This is a vertical garden wall installation in a shaded location. The plants are growing in pockets made of a horticulture fabric made entirely from recycled, non-toxic plastics which will last a lifetime. The automatic drip irrigation system delivers water to the top row of plants.The water is absorbed by the fabric, and then drips down through the entire wall, hydrating all the plants evenly on an adjustable schedule. The fabric is designed to hold and release moisture. As the plants continue to grow, the fabric will become less and less visible, until entirely hidden, resulting in a solid wall of attractive plants.
