Forest house
Year: 2019
Area: 235 sq. m.
Kyiv region, Ukraine
Architecture has a power to transform space. Often it`s too aggressive to the natural landscape. The principles of "live minimalism" in architectural projects is that you do not need to choose “man or nature”. Ukrainian architect and designer Viktoria Yakusha created residential house in the middle of the pine forest with zero harm to the environment.
The location of the house was not chosen by chance.Pine forest, convenient location near Kyiv – an ideal place for a quiet flow of life and a cosy weekend.Preserving wildlife, leaving pine trees on the site, while ensuring comfortable spatial planning of the house, was a fundamental point in the entire project and the most difficult task for the designer.
The first floor of the house is an open space. Thanks To the large window and terrace, the interior and exterior are combined and merged into a single harmonious space. The second-floor hangs over the terrace, creating a cosy place for family evenings. The construction of the outer wall of the building provides barbecue facilities.
The house is formed from several clear volumes, which are additionally highlighted with different materials: decorative plaster, porcelain stoneware, wooden beams. The colour scheme continues and partially reproduces the colours of the surrounding landscape as if the house emerges among the trees.
“Nature was not just an inspiration for design team, but a co-author of this house,” - says the architect Victoria Yakusha. - “During our work, we were guided by the principles of“living minimalism”. This allowed us to create a special space combining man and nature.”

Find the right local pro for your project

Design is more than what we see. It is what we feel when we step into a space. The right material can create clarity, calm, and confidence all at once. That is the art of Brooklyn.
Belgard Brooklyn™ is a large-format paver inspired by the raw textures of urban concrete, refined for outdoor luxury. Its clean, smooth finish and neutral gray palette bring a modern rhythm to any patio or courtyard. It is low maintenance, highly durable, and ideal for creating open, spacious layouts that invite rest and conversation.
Picture yourself around a fire pit as the sun drops low. The soft gray surface cools the light, and curved lines in charcoal add just enough contrast to guide the eye and ground the space. The result feels simple, strong, and intentional. It becomes a canvas ready for your moments to unfold.
Spaces like this are not just designed. They are curated for how you gather, reflect, and reconnect with what matters most.
Let’s explore how this material can bring your outdoor story to life.

Material with a Story
Some surfaces are designed to impress, while others are designed to invite. We love materials that slow you down, guiding you through a space with a sense of rhythm and grace. Belgian Cobble does just that, bringing charm with every step.
Belgian Cobble is a timeless paver inspired by old-world European streets. With its weathered texture, soft earth tones, and irregular cobblestone pattern, it brings warmth, character, and a handcrafted look to your outdoor space. It is ideal for walkways, patios, and accent borders where elegance and heritage meet.
There is something nostalgic about following a curved path laid in cobble. It draws you in quietly, leading you from one space to another, encouraging conversation and reflection. Whether it's the walk to a firepit or a stroll through your garden, it transforms the journey into an experience.
A well-designed outdoor space doesn't just function well, it lives well. It becomes a backdrop for family moments, peaceful mornings, and gatherings that linger long after sunset.

Embarking on a new journey with a client is always an exciting and inspiring time for Moderne Living. Building a relationship and translating our clients' vision calls for trust, collaboration and guidance, and it's a role we take immense pleasure and pride in fulfilling.
Moderne Living was recently commissioned to carry out a transitional design project for a North Carolina home, which on the face of it could have presented obvious challenges due to the geographical difference. Not believing that distance should be an issue, we rose to the challenge. Through careful consultation, the client revealed their vision, in turn guiding our choices on their behalf. This led us to select the Euforia range by Montbel, whose design ethos encapsulates tradition, innovation and dynamism.
We set out by developing a relationship with the client through telephone conversations, an investment in time that was absolutely crucial in contributing to the success of the project. Using the client's descriptions, ideas and floor plan, along with the talents of our designer, we were able to understand, give shape to and define the vision the client had in mind for their home.
We chose Euforia dining chairs, armchairs and stools because their collections offer modern elegance perfectly balanced with supreme comfort. The range takes the best of classical design and reimagines it with character, flair and modern touches. Euforia blends traditional design hallmarks including tufting (buttoned upholstery) with familiar silhouettes, solid wood frames and upholstered seats and backs. Color options are varied with neutral tones or rich, bold shades. Modern details such as chrome footrests reminds us of the harmony that can be achieved when you blend the contemporary and classic.
Each new client brings with them an ideal for their home, be it on a small or larger scale, and this helps shape our approach to each client and project. We understand that our clients' visions and ideals for their home are as diverse and individual as they are, calling for Moderne Living to offer and deliver diversified styles.
As we look back on this project, what we will take away from the experience is not only the professional and personal satisfaction of realizing the client's vision, and doing so without the benefit of visiting the space, but also the experience of being able to draw on what inspires us. Delivering a diversity of styles for our clients, be it contemporary, transitional or modern, remains a great source of creative energy, and continues to inspire and motivate us in our work.
