JDBG is wrapping up work on an expansive 2-story sunroom addition that also included modifications to the existing home’s interior and significant exterior improvements as well. The original project brief was to provide a conditioned 4-season sunroom addition where the homeowners could relax and enjoy their wooded views. As we delved deeper into our client’s overall objectives, it became clear that this would be no ordinary sunroom addition. The resulting 16’x25’ sunroom is a showstopper with 10’ high ceilings and wall to wall windows offering expansive views of the surrounding landscape. As we recommend with most addition projects, the process started with our Preliminary Design Study to determine project goals, design concepts, project feasibility and associated budget estimates. During this process, our design team worked to ensure that both interior and exterior were fully integrated. We conducted in-depth programming to identify key goals and needs which would inform the design and performed a field survey and zoning analysis to identify any constraints that could impact the plans. The next step was to develop conceptual designs that addressed the program requirements. Using a combination of 3-D massing, interior/exterior renderings, precedent imaging and space planning, the design concept was revised and refined. At the end of the study we had an approved schematic design and comprehensive budget estimates for the 2-story addition and were ready to move into design development, construction documentation, trade coordination, and final pricing. A complex project such as this involves architectural and interior design, structural and civil engineering, landscape design and environmental considerations. Multiple trades and subs are engaged during construction, from HVAC to electrical and plumbing, framers, carpenters and masons, roofers and painters just to name a few. JDBG was there every step of the way to ensure quality construction. Other notable features of the renovation included expanding the home’s existing dining room, incorporating a custom ‘dish room,’ and providing fully conditioned storage and his & her workrooms on the lower level. A new front portico will visually connect the old and new structures and a brand new roof, shutters and paint will further transform the exterior. Thoughtful planning was also given to the landscape, including a back deck, stone patio and walkways, plantings and exterior lighting. A visual artist and his fiancée’s house and studio were designed with various themes in mind, such as the physical context, client needs, security, and a limited budget. Six options were analyzed during the schematic design stage to control the wind from the northeast, sunlight, light quality, cost, energy, and specific operating expenses. By using design performance tools and technologies such as Fluid Dynamics, Energy Consumption Analysis, Material Life Cycle Assessment, and Climate Analysis, sustainable strategies were identified. The building is self-sufficient and will provide the site with an aquifer recharge that does not currently exist. The main masses are distributed around a courtyard, creating a moderately open construction towards the interior and closed to the outside. The courtyard contains a Huizache tree, surrounded by a water mirror that refreshes and forms a central part of the courtyard. The house comprises three main volumes, each oriented at different angles to highlight different views for each area. The patio is the primary circulation stratagem, providing a refuge from the wind, a connection to the sky, and a night sky observatory. We aim to establish a deep relationship with the site by including the open space of the patio.

This recently built 1,200 sq ft condo had spectacular views but was otherwise in need of character and design. My client, a single man and first time homeowner had excellent taste but wasn't sure where to begin or how to pull things together. We quickly identified a mutual love of mid century modern pieces and created a modern yet industrial inspired space that compliments and enhances his homes stunning panoramic views of downtown. ​ Favourite pieces include the colourful and bold silk area rug that helps ground the otherwise monochromatic space, custom stools that are as comfortable as they are visually appealing with luggage leather seats, several walnut pieces that add warmth and a concrete coffee table for a mix of modern. The final look is clean, fresh and eclectic resulting in the masculine, unique feel my client wanted.

A traditional Greek aesthetic home, now transformed to a modern, elegant sanctuary is the perfect pairing with our clients poised & bubbly personality. When we first met Kathie, her first words to us were "I want my house to greet me when I walk in!". And boy does it ever! In starting this project we had to work with some existing pieces, the main one being a fire place mantle designed and made by our client's dear, late friend; additionally the chandelier in the dining room. After working with our client to identify her signature style, she trusted us to give creative freedom over her space. We designed the space with a "Parisian modern" approach, incorporating small renaissance, architectural details, and marrying it with modern furnishings & decor. A soothing pallet with a bold statement took this home to the next level.

New to the Pacific Northwest, our recently retired clients had relocated from the Fairbanks area to take advantage of the more moderate climate and improved access to family and resources. They selected a nice home in a desirable location with a large enough lot next to some green space to afford them some breathing room. Taking a less is more approach, the homeowners’ goal was to establish a more neutral pallet with white walls, wood and earthy accents. We kept the budget at the forefront of our conversations, and they took care to make practical decisions, investing strategically in the upgrades to their home. Every decision and change made went a long way toward aligning the style of the home with the values of its new owners. The homeowners identify with their Danish heritage, which they express through their aesthetic and selections. The master bathroom improvements were especially important to the homeowners. We added heated floors and completely reworked the layout and design. It featured a new tub, a custom shower, tile throughout, shower glass, a custom cabinet made by a local cabinet maker and new lights and fixtures.

Custom wine room designed, fabricated and installed with clients rustic tones in mind. Knotty alder, full glass entry with a viewing window from the adjacent room immediately details a stone, cave-like entry into the wine room. Individual bottles, display, bulk storage and presentation shelves adorn this inviting space. Displays are all accented with LED lights on a dimmable transformer. Unique ceiling and wall sconce light fixtures provide just enough light to easily identify all labels. A wine cellar cooling system is hidden in a dead corner of the racking so as not to interfere with the décor or capacity. The used wine barrel offer the perfect surface to set a glass down and enjoy the space.

This project began with a roof inspection following reported wind activity in the Alpharetta area. Using the Inspector Roofing Protocols™, we conducted a structured, inspection-first evaluation to determine whether the roofing system had sustained functional damage. The inspection included slope-by-slope analysis, wide-to-tight photographic documentation, and targeted review of shingles, seal integrity, and uplift patterns consistent with wind-related damage. The inspection identified wind-driven shingle displacement and seal failure consistent with functional damage rather than normal wear. The documented findings met claim-verifiable thresholds, allowing the condition to be clearly presented and supported. Based on the inspection and supporting documentation, the claim was reviewed and approved by State Farm, resulting in a full roof replacement. This project reflects the importance of proper inspection and documentation—where replacement is not assumed, but supported through verifiable evidence and structured evaluation.
