An update was needed for an outdated kitchen with spacing and workflow issues. The revamped design not only addressed safety concerns and improved functionality but also introduced full-height pullouts and a corner pantry to maximize storage efficiency. Installing the same flooring throughout the main floor of the house created a sense of cohesion and enhanced the visual flow in the home. A new lighting plan was implemented to deliver light to crucial areas to improve visibility and visual comfort while working in the kitchen, as well as contributed to a sense of spaciousness. Ultimately, the remodel resulted in a stylish, inviting, and efficient kitchen with unencumbered pathways to the work areas.

A historic row house in the museum district of Richmond, VA was renovated from the studs up. Many of its original elements were restored while functional, eco-friendly and efficient modern updates were implemented. An open concept main floor, three bright bedrooms upstairs with brand new bathrooms and a fully finished basement/den made this a brand new home, but with character and history built in.

On the main level, we upgraded an existing powder room, adding a pantry to the kitchen, installed a new gas fireplace to replace the old wood burning, painted everything with a new fresh palette, scraped off the popcorn ceilings, and implemented a new lighting scheme throughout. Upstairs, we did a full upgrade remodel to the guest bathroom, and gorgeous renovation to the master bathroom. We installed new ceiling fans in every bedroom, painted the entire level, hung a new stairwell chandelier, replaced closet doors, scraped popcorn ceilings, and added recessed lights. In the basement, we added a new stair railing, remodeled the basement bathroom, completed re-faced the existing fireplace and hearth, added a new gas insert, created a gorgeous back storage wall, and scraped popcorn ceilings. We also painted and added recessed lighting here, and replaced old wood doors with fresh white ones. This whole house carries a gorgeous, fresh, elegantly traditional aesthetic now that is cohesive and beautiful!

2012 NARI Capital CotY, Merit Award Winner, Residential Basement Interior Newer home in suburb of Ashburn, VA was a home to this military couple. With their growing family and their daughter moving back, they wanted more space. The basement was delivered unfinished from the original builder. The owners could not come up with a desirable floor plan for the space due to stairway that builder put in place and locations of Furnace and hot water heater. After our design staff consulted this couple, we put in a plan in place that they never imagined it to be possible and even affordable. The moved the hot water heater and relocated a stack of return duct to allow more floor space. Then we have redesigned couple of headers to make room for stairway to be redirected. Now the new stairway comes directly from upper level family room and got an open glass door to allow light down the stair path. Just to the left of the stairs we have square off an area for Mechanical and storage room. This confined all ducts, hot water heater and furnace to be in their dedicated area as well as offer storage shelving for additional seasonal packages. The primary goal was to have a home office, full bathroom, guest bedroom and a large entertaining area for their large Texan relatives to visit. We have removed couple of bearing walls by the way of recess structural beams and decorative columns to make the entertaining area as large as to can be. Now we has an 35’x35’ area covered in Exotic Tigerwood and decorated with paneled walls, multi layer crown molding, chair rail, shadow boxing and columns . Just as you come down the steps we have dark cherry built ins to show off her prized possessions, to the right of it double French doors lead us to their home office/library. We have more built-ins along the wide hallway leading into entertaining area. A full bath with double entry to main area and adjacent bedroom furnished with full large walk in shower covered with porcelain decorative tiles and furniture style vanity. We have excavated and created an e-grass window to allow a Bedroom in the left of this basement. A large bar was implemented on the far walls of this basement filled in with cherry custom cabinetry, exotic stone top, tile floors and decorative pendent lights was a place to watch football games and hang out. Focal point of this basement was placement of a new gas fireplace embedded in ledge stone and a large LED TV just above it. This assembly was placed across a sectional piece of furniture and was popping out as you enter the room. By carefully selecting the wood tones of built ins and bar cabinetry complimenting the Exotic wood floors and stone top this place was now the home to our their family events.

The Clients: two passionate chefs. The Commission: to help them design the perfect Kitchen in which to prepare myriad delectable dishes that they love to plan and execute. The Main Requirements: enough storage to accommodate countless spices, cooking equipment and implements; lots of natural light; and a traditionally detailed, but not overdone design. We nearly doubled the size of the original galley kitchen by pushing out toward the backyard; laid out the appliances so as to maximize efficiency and work surface area; and designed custom built pull-outs for spice jars, and storage for special cookware, small appliances, cutlery and utensils. The inspiration for the cabinetry design was the Clients’ impeccable selections of appliances and finishes, and their request for tasteful, simple detailing. The focal point, the heart of this Kitchen, is the beautiful porcelain French stove and custom-designed hood cover. Leaded glass panels in the coffered ceiling add charm and hide roof skylights included in the design to maximize natural light. The large island with porcelain farm sink offers the Clients ample work surface as well as informal seating and storage. A desk / hutch cabinet provides a “central control station” for the family’s activities, as well as display for the Clients’ formal dishes and stemware. Other improvements included a much-needed Walk-In Pantry achieved by enclosing an existing side porch, and enhanced flow between the Kitchen and Family Room. We accomplished this by removing an existing column and beam which previously blocked the physical and visual connection between the two spaces. We are delighted with the transformation of the original little galley into our Clients’ dream Kitchen … and our Clients are thrilled that their new Kitchen has cut in half their time spent in epic cooking sessions on the weekends!

This is a super modern townhome with original pale tones, mainly a white canvas. Our sophisticated and well-traveled out-of-town clients purchased this townhome right in the middle of the pandemic. They needed a full-cycle interior design studio like ours to take on this project while they were in transit to Montecito. The scope was the complete renovation and facelift of the kitchen, powder room, master bedroom, master bathroom, guest suites, basement, and outdoor areas. Our clients wanted to bring warm tones such as orange and red throughout the 4-story Montecito townhome. They were open to discovering and implementing different interior design ideas in each section of the house. The Owners of a home that had been consumed by the moving dunes of Lake Michigan wanted a home that would not only stand the test of aesthetic time, but survive the vicissitudes of the environment. With the assistance of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality as well as the consulting civil engineer and the City of Grand Haven Zoning Department, a soil stabilization site plan was developed based on raising the new home’s main floor elevation by almost three feet, implementing erosion studies, screen walls and planting indigenous, drought tolerant xeriscaping. The screen walls, as well as the low profile of the home and the use of sand trapping marrum beachgrass all help to create a wind shadow buffer around the home and reduce blowing sand erosion and accretion. The Owners wanted to minimize the stylistic baggage which consumes most “cottage” residences, and with the Architect created a home with simple lines focused on the view and the natural environment. Sustainable energy requirements on a budget directed the design decisions regarding the SIPs panel insulation, energy systems, roof shading, other insulation systems, lighting and detailing. The 7,600 square-foot residence was designed for large, memorable gatherings of family and friends at the lake, as well as creating private spaces for smaller family gatherings. Keeping in dialogue with the surrounding site, a palette of natural materials and finishes was selected to provide a classic backdrop for all activities, bringing importance to the adjoining environment. In optimizing the views of the lake and developing a strategy to maximize natural ventilation, an ideal, open-concept living scheme was implemented. The kitchen, dining room, living room and screened porch are connected, allowing for the large family gatherings to take place inside, should the weather not cooperate. Two main level master suites remain private from the rest of the program; yet provide a complete sense of incorporation. Bringing the natural finishes to the interior of the residence, provided the opportunity for unique focal points that complement the stunning stone fireplace and timber trusses. 2013 PROFESSIONAL REMODELER, SILVER AWARD WINNER, RESIDENTIAL KITCHEN Located in the new Trump International Golf Course Community, this contemporary home has a great location overlooking the golf course. The current layout, however, prevented the owners from taking advantage of its breathtaking view. Goals of the remodel were to open up the first floor layout by taking down the partition walls between the kitchen and dining room. The homeowner also wanted to update the home’s galley kitchen, replacing its dark cabinets and counters. Once the walls were removed, major obstacles because they were load bearing, the new design could evolve. The ten foot ceilings provided the opportunity to stack up decorative glass cabinetry and highly crafted crown moldings on top, while maintaining a considerable amount of cabinetry right below it. The custom made brush stroke finished cabinetry with bells and whistles such as corbels and chimney style wood hood surrounded with leaded glass cabinetry. Pillars were all part of detailed craftsmanship of this project. A large 5’ x 14’ island is the focal point of the design. The island consists of main sink with a pedal style control disposal, dishwasher, microwave, second bar sink, beverage center refrigerator and still has room to sit five to six people. Its darker cabinetry provides a beautiful contrast to the opaque white cabinets on the surrounding walls. White marble counters and backsplash brighten up the kitchen and two crystal chandeliers create a timeless yet elegant feel. High-end Thermador appliances covered in custom inset panels are part of this featured project to implement the classic look the homeowner wanted for this kitchen. Finally, a featured cabinet arch with leaded glass separates the kitchen from the dining room and displays the homeowner’s fine china. Finally, large windows and French doors offer beautiful golf course views from multiple vantage points.
