During production, it was discovered that the grey linear tiles were 5/16” narrower than the white linear tiles. Unfortunately, this was a manufacturer error that could not be corrected. Of course, getting the tiles to line up in the corners would be an impossible task. In order to resolve this, our team came up with the solution of turning the gray linear tiles vertically. It turns out that this accentuated the waterfall effect even more, which became a perfect solution to what could have been a difficult obstacle.

BeachHaus is built on a previously developed site on Siesta Key. It sits directly on the bay but has Gulf views from the upper floor and roof deck. The client loved the old Florida cracker beach houses that are harder and harder to find these days. They loved the exposed roof joists, ship lap ceilings, light colored surfaces and inviting and durable materials. Given the risk of hurricanes, building those homes in these areas is not only disingenuous it is impossible. Instead, we focused on building the new era of beach houses; fully elevated to comfy with FEMA requirements, exposed concrete beams, long eaves to shade windows, coralina stone cladding, ship lap ceilings, and white oak and terrazzo flooring. This 1902 San Antonio home was beautiful both inside and out, except for the kitchen, which was dark and dated. The original kitchen layout consisted of a breakfast room and a small kitchen separated by a wall. There was also a very small screened in porch off of the kitchen. The homeowners dreamed of a light and bright new kitchen and that would accommodate a 48" gas range, built in refrigerator, an island and a walk in pantry. At first, it seemed almost impossible, but with a little imagination, we were able to give them every item on their wish list. We took down the wall separating the breakfast and kitchen areas, recessed the new Subzero refrigerator under the stairs, and turned the tiny screened porch into a walk in pantry with a gorgeous blue and white tile floor. The french doors in the breakfast area were replaced with a single transom door to mirror the door to the pantry. The new transoms make quite a statement on either side of the 48" Wolf range set against a marble tile wall. A lovely banquette area was created where the old breakfast table once was and is now graced by a lovely beaded chandelier. Pillows in shades of blue and white and a custom walnut table complete the cozy nook. The soapstone island with a walnut butcher block seating area adds warmth and character to the space. The navy barstools with chrome nailhead trim echo the design of the transoms and repeat the navy and chrome detailing on the custom range hood. A 42" Shaws farmhouse sink completes the kitchen work triangle. Off of the kitchen, the small hallway to the dining room got a facelift, as well. We added a decorative china cabinet and mirrored doors to the homeowner's storage closet to provide light and character to the passageway. After the project was completed, the homeowners told us that "this kitchen was the one that our historic house was always meant to have." There is no greater reward for what we do than that.

The combination of Piasentina stone and green black metal exalts the shapes and volumes of the entire island, made up of two large functional islands. The Blade project provides solutions considered impossible before now. The innovative technology and programs can sub-divide the kitchen into functional areas without restrictions. Made in Italy. A closet added to the guest bedroom in the 40's had choked the entry to the house. It was removed to provide a wider, more open feel. This also allowed us to swap out the impossibly narrow garage door with a full sized fire door, and change the fussy moldings with more modern casings.

Eclectic bedroom photo in DC Metro

We undertook a full house renovation of a historic stone mansion that serves as home to DC based diplomats. One of the most immediate challenges was addressing a particularly problematic bathroom located in a guest wing of the house. The miniscule bathroom had such steeply pitched ceilings that showering was nearly impossible and it was difficult to move around without risk of bumping your head. Our solution was to relocate the bathroom to an adjacent sitting room that had 8’ ceilings and was flooded with natural light. At twice the size of the old bathroom, the new location had ample space to create a true second master bathroom complete with soaking tub, walk-in shower and 5’ vanity. We used the same classic marble finishes throughout which provides continuity and maintains the elegant and timeless look befitting this historic mansion. The old bathroom was removed entirely and replaced with a cozy reading nook ready to welcome the most discerning of houseguests.

The small backyard was nearly impossible to navigate and filled with invasive weeds. The end result is an outdoor room perfect for entertaining or hanging out on a hot summer day. Down lighting illuminates the deck at night without drawing unwanted attention from surrounding neighbors. A custom iron railing doubles as a bar for eats and drinks.

Our clients lived in a wonderful home they designed and built which they referred to as their dream home until this property they admired for many years became available. Its location on a point with spectacular ocean views made it impossible to resist. This 40-year-old home was state of the art for its time. It was perfectly sited but needed to be renovated to accommodate their lifestyle and make use of current materials. Thus began the 3-year journey. They decided to capture one of the most exquisite views of Boston’s North Shore and do a full renovation inside and out. This project was a complete gut renovation with the addition of a guest suite above the garage and a new front entry.
