Inspiration for a timeless guest carpeted bedroom remodel in Miami with multicolored walls

The watery Venetian damask from Zoffany sets the mood for this Pied a Terre bedroom. We wrapped the room in a color pulled from the paper, even the doors and moldings are in this color. The wallpaper softens the hard lines of the industrial style metal bed from CB2. To purists the placement of the refurbished Mid Century nightstands with the wallpaper may seem inappropriate, but I think the nightstands are a tailored response to the exuberance of the paper. Also, if you watch TCM on a regular basis you would see such mixes all the time. The Chinese Mirror and Japanese prints reflect my client's interest in Asia and add another layer to the mix.

This 1790 farmhouse had received an addition to the historic ell in the 1970s, with a more recent renovation encompassing the kitchen and adding a small mudroom & laundry room in the ’90s. Unfortunately, as happens all too often, it had been done in a way that was architecturally inappropriate style of the home. We worked within the available footprint to create “layers of implied time,” reinstating stylistic integrity and un-muddling the mistakes of more recent renovations.

Our client wanted to add some softness to this arch window of shutters. Drawing influence from the wall color, furniture finishes and lighting fixtures we used shimmering damask drapery fabric and mirrored glass finials on the hardware to create a stunning window dressing. You can really see how the finishes of the chandelier harmonize with the drapery hardware.

Pirouettes have a hobbled look when closed and provide privacy to your space.

When the current owners purchased this early-1930’s residence, the home had already been through renovations and additions that detracted from its original Spanish architecture. The client’s program included adding a children’s bedroom wing, expanding the breakfast area into a sitting area, enlarging some of the small, dimly-lit interior areas, and adding a swimming pool and pool house. The design challenge was to provide renovations and additions in a manner complimentary to the original architecture and corrective of the inappropriate aesthetic of prior renovations.
