The extensive bourbon collection deserved all the best highlights including custom bistro shelving, ambient lighting and both beautiful and functional cabinetry. The vibe is moody and mysterious and the finishes are sophisticated. Cork metallic wallpaper, deep hued paint and the quartzite countertops, which immediately draw the eye with their beauty, all culminate to this amazingly relaxing space that make one want to put up their feet, light a cigar and enjoy a fine pour. The traditionally inspired furnishings keep the room cozy and comfortable, and ever so plush. The lounge and its adjacent bathroom were designed with masculine inspired finishes and speaks to the client’s love for music. The powder bath on the other side of the home is a jewel box of a room with a custom mural and vanity, dancing crystal lights and a pink lacquered ceiling. This house is one of 34 post WWII Mid Century Modern homes build in a development in Princeton. This house includes an addition of what used to be a dance studio and master bedroom suite, designed by Michael Graves in the late 1970's. Also at that time the original kitchen was replaced by Graves with white plastic laminate faced cabinets. Over the years, this kitchen started delaminating, which inspired the current owner to renovate the kitchen. The owner has a collection of Biedermeier furniture and decided to use birdseye maple and cherry stained cabinets for the new kitchen in an attempt to tie the house together.

The Courtyard House is a ground-up infill project, designed, developed and built by RD Design Team in the Longview West neighborhood of Central Phoenix. The house is 1,898 square feet with three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, and a conditioned garage that doubles as a bar and social area. The main design inspiration behind this project is the interior courtyard inspired by the haciendas of Mexico. We designed the house around not one, but two interior courtyards. The kitchen opens up to the main courtyard with a wall of glass and huge transparent patio doors that allow for the indoor/outdoor lifestyle so appropriate to the climate in Phoenix. The second interior courtyard is an open space between the house and the exterior garage space, which we converted to a space for people, not cars. The back courtyard acts as an accessory space to the converted garage, making for another versatile indoor/outdoor gathering space. Another design motif of the project was creating a special approach to the house. We choreographed a sensual procession from the street to the front door starting with a long concrete bridge over a drainage basin that lights up at night. An entry courtyard with a metal trellis flanked by a perforated wall welcomes visitors and creates a special threshold space filled with dancing shadows. A fountain hidden behind a wall adds to the sensual experience of the approach with the refreshing sound of a steady waterfall. When you open the front door, you stand on an open grate that spans the drainage basin and are greeted by the bright and open space of the living room and kitchen. Further inside, you cross a second transparent bridge at the entrance of the master bedroom, which gives a delightful glimpse of the desert floor below. Throughout the ultra modern house, you see materials appropriate to the desert Southwest, including a sealed wood fence, rusted metal detailing, and a rusted metal stair that leads to a roof terrace above the converted garage.

A perfectly milled stairwell with custom designed details - we thought out every single finish, angle and detail for these stairs- including the throw rug that we converted to a runner. Water dripping chandelier lays the drop of elegance and wood dances with bronze finishes allowing all of the nature in this stair well to pour in.

Tropical islands are the focal point for the design build of the acreage behind this stunning, Mediterranean-style home. The hardscape features a three level pool, including a toddler pool and a wading pool. Starting at the reef, there are three leaf petal loungers which allow you to recline in four to six inches of water at your feet. Limestone holy boulders are placed strategically along the edge for a natural element. A beautiful blend of earthy colors within the flagstone create a natural and rustic pool deck. All of the steps and bench seating inside the pool are also made of flagstone (custom fabricated flagstone coping for this project was completed on site). The toddler pool features fiber optic lighting which was installed at the bottom of the pool in the gunnite shell to create the reflection of a starry, celestial sky (fiber optic lighting can be used to create any number of shapes or constellations). An infinity edge crashes over beautiful stone and tile work, falling into a wading pool below. Another special feature is a water feature of riverstone cobbles sitting below dancing flames. Large stepping stones alongside this feature lead you to a lounge pool deck creating the feeling of an island retreat. Limestone slabs were used for a path of steps that take you through the landscaping back to the main house. A gazebo was added to hold an outdoor kitchen, an outdoor shower and a pool house with restrooms. All of the outdoor features are automated, allowing you to operate water temperature, fire features, water features, even the music and lighting from your smartphone.
