There is wainscoting wall protection that is carried in from the adjacent hallway that easily blends with wainscoting height tile in the bathroom as well. The toilet is extra high comfort height and sits at 21" so that access from the wheelchair is easiest. There is a linen cabinet across from the toilet that provides for drawers for bathroom items and supplies and for linens and towels on top. The shower threshold could not be eliminated, so we extended the shower bench over 21" into the bathroom floor so that easy transfer could be made from the wheelchair onto the bench in the bathroom, and then just slide over on the bench into the shower. The handheld shower is located within easy reach of the bench with all bathing supplies conveniently located in an easily accessible niche. Although not all grab bars are shown here, there is one at the sink to help her stand up, a pull down bar near the toilet, a vertical bar to help standing up from the toilets, an angled bar from the bench to stand up and a horizontal and vertical grab bar in the shower itself. Note that we selected the basic grab bar to install over any designer grab bar for maximum safety and comfort. From the Master Bath, a hallway leads to the closet and the Master Bedroom. We widened the hallway to access the closet to 42" wide, and increased the size of the door to enter the closet from 24" to 36" and eliminated the door to improve overall access. The closet was built in and provides for all her items that were previously in a dresser in her bedroom. This way, she can go into the closet and get all items needed to dress without going back into the bedroom for undergarments.

Built in 1904, The Chatsworth was reintroduced in 2015 with expanded floor plans, incredible amenities and a private club-like atmosphere. transFORM’s Senior Design Manager Rozalia Kiss, worked with the HFZ Capital Group to create a striking bedroom sized walk-in closet, which was recently featured in the New York Times article : Closets as Big as Some Apartments. The article identifies spacious closets as the latest must-have in some of the city’s most expensive condominiums. Quickly becoming an essential part of the modern home, a walk-in closet adds style and convenience to your daily routine. Designed in a clean white finish and tastefully accented with complementing polished chrome hardware, this custom walk-in closet delivers tons of functional and accessible space. All-white cabinetry offers a crisp look that allows your clothing to steal the spotlight. The high-contrast shaker style doors, create an elegant backdrop for your clothing. Light also pours through the big windows, drawing your eye to the iconic views of the Hudson River. It creates a feeling of brightness and positivity that energizes and enlivens. Garage rooftop decks have gained in popularity in many cities, and are very common in Chicago as one of the best options to increase access to outdoor space, where residential space is otherwise limited. This beautiful single family home in Lakeview needed a significant garage roof deck overhaul. Rooftopia removed an old pergola and wooden decking bringing a modern aesthetic to the design of the new deck. We installed new porcelain paver floor tiles, added gorgeous Ipe privacy screens, and a Renson Pergola with an adjustable louvered waterproof cover. The Renson pergola system also seamlessly integrates three retractable screens made of fabric for privacy on three sides of the pergola, as well as LED lighting in the columns of the pergola and outdoor heaters. The pergola includes outdoor curtains to provide our clients with the ability to create a very cozy enclosure. The lighter finishes of the pavers, pergola and planter boxes keep the space looking fresh and bright all year round. Winner of the 2018 Tour of Homes Best Remodel, this whole house re-design of a 1963 Bennet & Johnson mid-century raised ranch home is a beautiful example of the magic we can weave through the application of more sustainable modern design principles to existing spaces. We worked closely with our client on extensive updates to create a modernized MCM gem. Extensive alterations include: - a completely redesigned floor plan to promote a more intuitive flow throughout - vaulted the ceilings over the great room to create an amazing entrance and feeling of inspired openness - redesigned entry and driveway to be more inviting and welcoming as well as to experientially set the mid-century modern stage - the removal of a visually disruptive load bearing central wall and chimney system that formerly partitioned the homes’ entry, dining, kitchen and living rooms from each other - added clerestory windows above the new kitchen to accentuate the new vaulted ceiling line and create a greater visual continuation of indoor to outdoor space - drastically increased the access to natural light by increasing window sizes and opening up the floor plan - placed natural wood elements throughout to provide a calming palette and cohesive Pacific Northwest feel - incorporated Universal Design principles to make the home Aging In Place ready with wide hallways and accessible spaces, including single-floor living if needed - moved and completely redesigned the stairway to work for the home’s occupants and be a part of the cohesive design aesthetic - mixed custom tile layouts with more traditional tiling to create fun and playful visual experiences - custom designed and sourced MCM specific elements such as the entry screen, cabinetry and lighting - development of the downstairs for potential future use by an assisted living caretaker - energy efficiency upgrades seamlessly woven in with much improved insulation, ductless mini splits and solar gain
