WALL-TO-WALL APPEAL. When the need to open up space meets structural challenges, equal parts of creativity and care came into play. We couldn't move a load-bearing wall, and we didn't want to incur the great expense of moving plumbing and HVAC. So we turned the slices of walls into coordinating design elements - punching out a display niched in one and nesting a TV in the other.

The cabinets in this Andover, MN home were in beautiful condition, but the stain color was dated. Instead of incurring the expense to replace quality cabinets, the homeowners consulted us to enamel the cabinets a fresh white. They updated their island with a bold blue and tied the space together with beach furniture.

The siding and trim are made from inexpensive but long-lasting Maine-milled White Cedar, installed in a reverse board and batten style which allows drainage and airflow behind the boards to extend their life. The siding was also left unfinished to weather to a silver grey, reducing cost, ecological footprint, and the need for future maintenance that paint or solid stain would incur.

This bright, contemporary kitchen has a flare of drama with the dark, custom range hood and the matte, dark countertops. By changing a peninsula into an island we were able to create much better function for the home owner, while not incurring huge costs to move rough ins.
