When an international client moved from Brazil to Stamford, Connecticut, they reached out to Decor Aid, and asked for our help in modernizing a recently purchased suburban home. The client felt that the house was too “cookie-cutter,” and wanted to transform their space into a highly individualized home for their energetic family of four. In addition to giving the house a more updated and modern feel, the client wanted to use the interior design as an opportunity to segment and demarcate each area of the home. They requested that the downstairs area be transformed into a media room, where the whole family could hang out together. Both of the parents work from home, and so their office spaces had to be sequestered from the rest of the house, but conceived without any disruptive design elements. And as the husband is a photographer, he wanted to put his own artwork on display. So the furniture that we sourced had to balance the more traditional elements of the house, while also feeling cohesive with the husband’s bold, graphic, contemporary style of photography. The first step in transforming this house was repainting the interior and exterior, which were originally done in outdated beige and taupe colors. To set the tone for a classically modern design scheme, we painted the exterior a charcoal grey, with a white trim, and repainted the door a crimson red. The home offices were placed in a quiet corner of the house, and outfitted with a similar color palette: grey walls, a white trim, and red accents, for a seamless transition between work space and home life. The house is situated on the edge of a Connecticut forest, with clusters of maple, birch, and hemlock trees lining the property. So we installed white window treatments, to accentuate the natural surroundings, and to highlight the angular architecture of the home. In the entryway, a bold, graphic print, and a thick-pile sheepskin rug set the tone for this modern, yet comfortable home. While the formal room was conceived with a high-contrast neutral palette and angular, contemporary furniture, the downstairs media area includes a spiral staircase, comfortable furniture, and patterned accent pillows, which creates a more relaxed atmosphere. Equipped with a television, a fully-stocked bar, and a variety of table games, the downstairs media area has something for everyone in this energetic young family.

Our San Francisco studio added a bright palette, striking artwork, and thoughtful decor throughout this gorgeous home to create a warm, welcoming haven. We added cozy, comfortable furnishings and plenty of seating in the living room for family get-togethers. The bedroom was designed to create a soft, soothing appeal with a neutral beige theme, natural textures, and beautiful artwork. In the bathroom, the freestanding bathtub creates an attractive focal point, making it a space for relaxation and rejuvenation. We also designed a lovely sauna – a luxurious addition to the home. This is the custom wine rack design on the right wall. At the topmost section, you can see the wine cooling unit concealed in a wooden grill. Below it are individual wine racks. The middle section consists of a high reveal display, which highlights some of the owner's wines. More single storage slots are provided in the racking at the bottom section of the right wall racking. We created a stellar custom small wine cellar design for a couple who had lost their home and wine collection in the wildfires in Rancho Bernardo in North County San Diego, California in 2007. We encountered some challenges in this project. The room where the client wanted to build the wine cellar was relatively small, and we needed to hide a beam that runs through the left wall. We provided a wine storage solution that solved the construction issues and met our client's requirements. This glass enclosed, contemporary yet rustic small wine room features magnum storage, individual bottle redwood wine racking, diamond bins, wine case storage, horizontal displays, as well as a section in the wall for liquor storage. Wine Cellar Builders at Vintage Cellars were able to construct this wine room after bumping out a wall in the client's kitchen for additional storage space. This added 80 square feet more to the tiny room on the second floor. We framed the small wine closet before installing the racking for the Rancho Bernardo San Diego California wine cellar. We also installed the proper insulation and vapor barrier to protect our client's wine from damage, and to prevent wine cooling system or wine cooling unit breakdowns. As the couple travels frequently, we added some homey comforts, like a deep shag rug in their bedroom. Individual channel-tufted panels of ivory vegan leather on the master bedroom’s headboard wall, bring a sophisticated feature to this room’s design. The custom Vanguard bed incorporates upholstered side rails made of the same vegan leather.

This development, nicknamed "Trivaca", is situated on a unique triangular shaped property within the historic Lavaca neighborhood of San Antonio. It consists of four, two-story modern townhouses, designed by four individual architects that work within the Southtown neighborhood. The designs, although modern, make use of a variety of materials found throughout the area such as steel, wood, and stucco, while also maintaining a unique individual look across all four properties. Fisher Heck's design for this home is a contemporary reflection of many of the surrounding historic homes, specifically with regards to materiality and building proportion. The main level consists of the main living areas as well as a home office/guest bedroom with full bath. The living spaces all open out to a lush, private xeriscaped courtyard and modular driveway. The two upstairs bedrooms both face north with perfect views of Tower of Americas and downtown fireworks.

This beautiful outdoor pool and waterfall uses the Quarry Mill's Denali natural thin stone veneer. Denali natural stone veneer is a high density sandstone cut into rough rectangles forming the castle rock style. The stone gets its abundance of color from the heavy mineral staining. The mineral staining occurred naturally in the quarry over time as water washed minerals between the individual layers of stone. The colors include blue, light grey, tan and brown. Denali also has a very rugged and unique texture with a mix of dimpled, smooth and wavy pieces. This stone is sold as individual pieces intended to be installed by a professional masonry contractor. This Project consisted of a Pondless Waterfall Memorial installation in Hummlestown, PA at the Allegheny Valley School. The Pondless Waterfall has dueling streams measuring approximately 25′ in length disappearing into a 400 gallon pondless underground basin. We installed LED lighting in the water feature and under water falls for night time viewing. This Pondless waterfall was built as a memorial to Jilly a resident at the school who passed away. The Allegheny Valley School provides residential, therapeutic, educational, vocational and social programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They provide care to people from childhood through adulthood. An individualized plan of care is designed for each person with the goal of achieving the highest level of independence while enhancing his/her quality of life.
