The home owners kept saying, with a look of delighted disbelief "I can't believe this is our house!" As a designer, I absolutely loved this project, because it shows the potential of an average, older Pittsburgh area home, and how it can become a well designed and updated space. It was rewarding to be part of a project which resulted in creating an elegant and serene living space the family loves coming home to everyday, while the exterior of the home became a standout gem in the neighborhood.

The Kitchen Industrial steel and glass elements reminiscent of old factory loft spaces mix with wood to warm and balance this modern urban kitchen. Custom-built cabinets with floor-to-ceiling storage make efficient use of limited space. Adding subtle wood elements to the island and cabinet framing brings a cozy element to clean lines and modern features. The giant window under the steel stove hood is as unusual as it is striking. This beautiful 11' triangle beam was pulled from an 1800's farmhouse in East Tennessee. It was hand-hewn with an axe and served as a linch-pin beam. The beam is hung from an old rusty logging chain and suspended from custom hand-made brackets. The oversized vintage edison bulbs hang from copper wiring and are housed in hand-made copper sockets. This light can be hung indoors or outdoors.
