Although the homeowners opted to use inexpensive folding chairs and a table so that they can be easily stored away and a car can be parked on this backyard portion of the driveway, that doesn't mean that the space can still look nice. Here, the homeowners are getting ready to throw a dinner party in the new dining space. LED lights were strung from the awning supports, the table was decorated, and a new semi-custom DIY fire bowl was made for the occasion.

The new custom fabric retractable awning is made from a screen type fabric to allow some light to come through so that the container garden plants still receive some sunlight. But, this also allows the awning to keep most of the direct sun off of the side of the house to keep it cool and reduce energy consumption. Here the awning is shown fully extended over the patio area. Kyle had a small corner wall in his home that he wanted to add some character to by building an electric fireplace. He used our Northern Slate Stacked Stone panels for this inexpensive design.

Here the awning is shown in a mostly closed position to keep the house cool and the plants from wilting in the heat while keeping the patio area in the sunlight.

Here is a close-up photo of the new semi-custom DIY fire bowl that was made for the space. A bold blue glazed ceramic clay pot was chosen to fit the Spanish style architecture of the house. The pot was also chosen for its height that could fit a replacement tiki torch canister. Then, rocks were placed around and over the canister so that only the wick was showing. This method can be used with any container tall enough for the canisters and any color or shape of rocks (or even glass pebbles).

Their media system was AT&T Uverse-based, cluttering the living room with 5 separate components, 3 remotes, and multiple cables. We replaced AT&T with Comcast for high speed internet including the cable modem and wireless antenna, increasing their wireless download speed from 24 to 175 Mbps. On the opposite wall, we installed PowerBridge recessed cable management outlets to run cables behind the wall, hung their television on a Sanus super-low profile fixed TV mount, connected an Apple TV HD, and set them with YouTube TV. Result, one cable modem/wifi antenna and one small Apple TV box.
