Franklin took advantage of the existing hay track in the peak of the ceiling, using it to conceal wiring needed to run the fan and lights. In order to preserve the quality of the ceiling, the architect covered the original slats with 6" insulated panels (SIP's).
While his children were younger, Franklin recognized the need to child-proof the space. "I installed Plexiglas on all the railings so the kids couldn’t climb over them when they were very small," he explains. While some of the sheeting was removed over time, Franklin laughs, " The Plexiglas on the railings by the pool table will always stay since we are so bad at pool! Too many balls fly off the table and could injure someone in the gathering room below."

Vanilla ConcreteAs a bonus, we decided to surprise the client with a dedicated place to store the gas key. After the desired flame level is chosen the gas key simply slides into its own dedicated storage slot that we cast directly into the concrete. As a result, there is no worry that it would be lost of even worse, that it is left sticking out of the gas valve to injure your shins on.

Let's RemodelBefore this staircase was remolded, the owner was injured a couple of times due to the stairs that were here. They were unsafe, not stable, and looked terrible. We updated the space with hardwood stair treads, tile on the first step and the landing, as well as black iron railing to add a modern look. The previous door was drafty and worn down. There was red tile covering the walls and cement stairs made it look like it wasn't a part of a house. We exchanged the red tile for light blue painted walls, to brightening up the space.

UserThis is an organic Lime Wash done with a true lime wash product as opposed to a brick mortar or concrete that is often seen on new houses. This product can be applied as a solid coating making the surface completely white, or can be applied and "washed off" in many artistic ways, as seen here. If you hate your brick or just want something unique this is a great option!
