Inspiration for a rustic landscaping in Burlington.

This existing home was originally built circa 1919, and was ready for a major renovation. As was characteristic of the period in which the home was built, the existing spaces were small and closed in. The design concept included removing walls on first floor for a thoroughly updated and open living / dining / kitchen space, as well as creating a new first floor powder room and entry. Great care was taken to preserve and embrace original period details, including the wood doors and hardware (which were all refinished and reused), the existing stairs (also refinished), and an existing brick pier was exposed to restore some of the home’s inherent charm. The existing wood flooring was also refinished to retain the original details and character. A detailed view of creekside rocks adorned with native plants, some blooming with vibrant purple flowers. The plants growing directly on and around the existing rocks help stabilize the soil while enhancing the natural beauty and ecological health of the creekside environment.

Work on this historic Buckhead estate has evolved through three owners since 1986. Each owner had their own vision and program of needs for the property. From reclaimed meadows to pool house, each was accommodated gracefully on this eight acre lot. A significant non-native invasive plant removal program has been in place for 15 years with great success and benefit.

Moondust by Jon Allen - JAC 138 The Jon Allen Collection is an exclusive, hand-selected group of my most personal work to date. Each piece is hand-painted on aluminum. My art itself and my chosen medium, aluminum, are blissfully married. You may not think of the word organic when you hear the word metal, but this is some of my most organic art and that’s simply because metal allows my work to achieve true sentience. Aluminum’s naturally reflective nature enables each color, shape, and stroke to reach its full potential. A new aspect of the painting will reveal itself to you as it basks in the light that surrounds, evades, or envelops it in that moment. When you see the piece from different angles, you will appreciate how vibrant, dynamic, and environmentally influenced these pieces are. What you may see and feel by morning is not what you’ll see or feel by dusk and in many ways, and as such I feel these pieces capture the ever-ebbing and complex nature of human emotion and perception. Some of these pieces are truly abstract while others are modern takes on traditional landscapes, marine life, and portraits. I hope you enjoy them a fraction of how much I enjoyed creating them.
