Orange County, CA - A courtyard entry gate is like a front door to a home so proper attention to its design and detailing needs to be taken into consideration. This courtyard entry gate in a Mediterranean style was designed as part of a garage door and garden gate project we did in Corona del Mar, CA. The entry gate borrowed some of the architectural elements we used on the garage doors. For instance the bottom diamond panels which are carved by hand out of a solid piece of wood is a direct feature we used form the garage door design. The wood we opted to use was mahogany and it was graciously stained the same color as the garage doors to pull in the front curb appeal of the home together. Though the garage door design was rather simple the focus of this home was the entry way to the courtyard gate so extra details were used such as the hand-forged scrolling girll used on the front which is backed with a functional rain glass door that can be opened for cleaning or speaking to someone without opening the entry gate. The iron work is exquisitely detailed in a turn of the century neoclassic style with gorgeous finials and scrolls that make the entry gate so elegant! Joanne Bechhoff Occupied Staging - This family room is very long and narrow. We staged the space utilizing the Owner's sectional couch. Sectionals have been very popular over the years, but many times take up a lot of space in a room. Many people don't realize you can break up the sectional to create more cohesive entertaining spaces. In this instance, since the room is so long we pulled part of the sectional away from the 1/2 wall allowing for walking space behind the couch with a large end table between the two pieces. This allows for a lamp bringing additional lighting and a more comfortable seating arrangement.

Part of the solution was to make things smaller that could be: for instance, A Miele 18" dishwasher on the island, a smaller sink, and knee-space for one person on each side of the island allowed all the function to happen in the island that was needed, but with the limited length available. Wall ovens were a must for this client who had been used to bending down to see what was cooking. A combi-microwave over a larger convection oven, both with side-swinging doors, make for dramatic looks but also optimum ergonomics.

Creating an entry that feels welcoming and expansive can sometimes be a challenge. In this instance, double entry doors made of a wood frame with glass panes allows light to flood the entry foyer. The natural light brightens and balances the visually heavier stone and wood finishes. A special plaster treatment on the walls and ceiling adds depth and interest to space. Kowalske Kitchen & Bath designed and remodeled this Delafield master bathroom. The original space had a small oak vanity and a shower insert. The homeowners wanted a modern farmhouse bathroom to match the rest of their home. They asked for a double vanity and large walk-in shower. They also needed more storage and counter space. Although the space is nearly all white, there is plenty of visual interest. This bathroom is layered with texture and pattern. For instance, this bathroom features shiplap walls, pretty hexagon tile, and simple matte black fixtures.
