The family who has owned this home for twenty years was ready for modern update! Concrete floors were restained and cedar walls were kept intact, but kitchen was completely updated with high end appliances and sleek cabinets, and brand new furnishings were added to showcase the couple's favorite things. Photo: Kayla Stark © 2018 Houzz This space is the second parlor and traditionally this room would’ve been filled with musical instruments and used for entertaining. The Cahns use this room as a second sitting room, filled with antiques and traditional furnishings. The maroon velvet sofa is accented with a needlepoint floral pillow purchased in Guatemala and a black-and-white pillow made as a gift by a fabric designer friend. The paintings above the sofa are by New Orleans artist Bruce Brice and the black Chinese cabinet used to be in Richard’s childhood home. Akari light sculpture floor lamp: Isamu Noguchi

The child who's bedroom this is choose the song on the wall and not only helped design it but also helped me paint it. I find when children want a unique bedroom like this they want to help. Its intresting that when they do help they have not only more love for their space but also take better care of it.
