Bottlegreen studioA part extension and renovation project done for the Centre for vernacular Architecture demanded the construction of a first floor and terrace study over an existing 30-year-old, load-bearing brick structure. Composite wall construction was adopted to create texture internally and externally while not over-loading the existing ground floor walls. A simple wire-cut brick cladding over the ground floor facade helped tie the old and new construction.
Leather finished Kota floor, refurbished antique doors & windows, handmade Athangudi tiles, stained glass shutters and numerous display areas were put together to reflect the strong and distinct personality of our clients who are extensive travelers, writers and hoarders.

The family room is a place for the children to gather round, watch TV and kick their feet up. It was designed for comfort and entertaining, as her sons' friends frequent often. Missy pieced together two images she found on Houzz to present to her carpenter, Billy Covey, who then brought the images to life. Missy chose utilitarian furnishings. "Is it functional and will it be durable enough to handle six growing boys?" The furnishings throughout the house are well placed and utilitarian.

Lurie Building DesignDesign work started with a modest design focused on improving the kitchen, living, dining and outdoor living areas. However, a feasibility study determined that a better option was to fully remodel the existing dwelling, resulting in reclaiming some of the front veranda to increase the size of the living and dining areas. The remaining section created an alcove to the main bedroom, increasing privacy and creating a dedicated outdoor area.
A large awning, cantilevered so as not to impose on the existing septic, created a separate outdoor living area. A teak facade, that will weather to grey in the salty sea air over time, was added to extend high above the box gutter, conceal the solar panels and cap the ends of the separation walls. The roof was repitched and the internal ceilings raked upwards from the teak facade, thereby increasing the internal volume and allowing for the addition of high-light windows in rooms on the ridge side of the dwelling to capture the vista, increase natural light, ventilation and sense of space.
A skillion roof outside the back kitchen area was strategically positioned out of sight from the inside of the home and created a second outdoor area in the rear courtyard, serving as the main entry point. A gate house was incorporated in the rear fence to enhance the entry. The rear courtyard reclaimed an existing parking bay to create space for the cellar/music room.

David Moulton AIASpace for the new master bathroom was found in a new the structural connection between the bedroom and study, thereby joining the two buildings into one. Artistic Tile's Estrella Cream Jazz, a delicate pattern of leaves created from spun glass, fills a frame of Happy Floors Umbro tile in the shower and above the vanity. A Kueco Royal medicine chest contains internal electrical outlets to minimize clutter. A Silestone countertop with an oversize American Standard Studio Undercounter sink and Grohe wall mount faucet provides a bright and spacious area for washing up.
