This is a pretty kitchen, but it is also practical and efficient. The working triangle: sink to range to refrigerator is right in line and allows the cook to function without any interruption of workflow in the space. Friends and family can gather at the island or even help at the bar sink without feeling crowded.

This itty bitty kitchen in a historic Richmond row house had been closed in by unnecessary walls, creating a tight, dysfunctional galley style kitchen with very little storage space. Working alongside our artist and cabinetry making clients, we created a custom design with handmade, custom cabinetry pieces while opening up the kitchen to the dining area, making the space feel exponentially larger. The result is a clean, modern, functional and big energy kitchen.

Like many California ranch homes built in the 1950s, this original master bathroom was not really a "master bath." My clients, who only three years ago purchased the home from the family of the original owner, were saddled with a small, dysfunctional space. Chief among the dysfunctions: a vanity only 30" high, and an inconveniently placed window that forced the too-low vanity mirror to reflect only the waist and partial torso--not the face--of anyone standing in front of it. They wanted not only a more spacious bathroom but a bedroom as well, so we worked in tandem with an architect and contractor to come up with a fantastic new space: a true Master Suite. In order to refine a design concept for the soon-to-be larger space, and thereby narrow down material choices, my clients and I had a brainstorming session: we spoke of an elegant Old World/ European bedroom and bathroom, a luxurious bath that would reference a Roman spa, and finally the idea of a Hammam was brought into the mix. We blended these ideas together in oil-rubbed bronze fixtures, and a tiny tile mosaic in beautiful Bursa Beige marble from Turkey and white Thassos marble from Greece. The new generously sized bathroom boasts a jetted soaking tub, a very large walk-in shower, a double-sided fireplace (facing the tub on the bath side), and a luxurious 8' long vanity with double sinks and a storage tower. The vanity wall is covered with a mosaic vine pattern in a beautiful Bursa Beige marble from Turkey and white Thassos marble from Greece,. The custom Larson Juhl framed mirrors are flanked by gorgeous hand-wrought scones from Hubbardton Forge which echo the vine and leaf pattern in the mosaic. And the vanity itself features an LED strip in the toe-kick which allows one to see in the middle of the night without having to turn on a shockingly bright overhead fixture. At the other end of the master bath, a luxurious jetted tub nestles by a fireplace in the bay window area. Views of my clients' garden can be seen while soaking in bubbles. The over-sized walk-in shower features a paneled wainscoting effect which I designed in Crema Marfil marble. The vine mosaic continues in the shower, topped by green onyx squares. A rainshower head and a hand-held spray on a bar provides showering options. The shower floor slopes gently in one direction toward a hidden linear drain; this allows the floor to be read as a continuation of the main space, without being interrupted by a center drain. French-Inspired Elegance, Head to Toe — Whole-Home Design & Renovation | Wrightsville Beach Area, NC Some homes are designed to be admired. This one was designed to be lived in beautifully. A stunning white brick colonial exterior with black shutters, a columned arched portico, dark wood double doors, and a bluestone walkway sets the stage before you ever step inside. The promise the exterior makes, the interior keeps — at every single turn. The kitchen is the kind of room that stops people in their tracks. Crisp white cabinetry with decorative molding, a custom painted range hood, and white quartz countertops create an all-white foundation that feels both timeless and fresh. Two crystal chandeliers hang above the island and kitchen table, and the arabesque mosaic backsplash in soft gray and white ties the palette together with quiet pattern. Ornate corbel legs anchor the island, while embossed French-style upholstered chairs bring softness and texture to the eat-in space. The adjacent butler's pantry doubles as a bar, with ornate oval-mullion glass cabinet doors, a built-in wine refrigerator, and the same signature backsplash tile running through. The dining room is a showstopper in its own right. A custom ceiling treatment featuring scalloped ogee plaster molding creates an architectural frame that rivals the chandelier below it — a grand crystal fixture suspended from an ornate ceiling medallion. Tufted white dining chairs with scalloped backs and nailhead trim surround a dark espresso table, while tone-on-tone white damask wallpaper adds depth without interrupting the monochromatic palette. The living room exhales. Pale blue-gray walls and a coffered ceiling with white molding create a serene, layered backdrop for a curved gray tufted leather sofa, custom blue and white botanical drapes, white built-in bookshelves, and a beautifully detailed fireplace mantel. Every piece was chosen to feel collected and considered. The primary bathroom carries the same elegance: an ornate cartouche-shaped polished nickel mirror, crystal wall sconces, white shaker cabinetry, marble tile, and polished nickel fixtures throughout. The powder room features the same white damask wallpaper as the dining room, picture frame wainscoting, a pedestal sink, and a beveled Venetian mirror — small but completely unforgettable. Outside, the home extends beautifully with a screened porch featuring an outdoor fireplace, TV, motorized screens, and white outdoor furniture. The covered outdoor kitchen has a custom range hood, dark stone countertops, white painted brick, and easy access through French doors. Crystal door knobs with polished nickel rosettes appear on every door in the home — a detail that, once noticed, tells you everything about how this project was executed.
