A contemporary renovation on the Atlantic, this oceanfront residence sits within The Carlton—an intimate beachfront enclave just down the road from John's Island on Vero Beach's barrier island. The interior was reworked from the original layout into a light, open plan that runs from the entry straight through to the water.
Walls of glass frame the ocean from nearly every room. The living and dining spaces open across honed limestone floors beneath a recessed tray ceiling, with a private terrace—columned, candle-lit, and set directly above the surf—extending the living area into the sea air. The kitchen was taken fully modern: handleless white cabinetry, integrated appliances, a waterfall island, and brushed-brass hardware, all kept clean against the natural-fiber textures of the rooms around it. Guest and primary baths were rebuilt with custom vanities, frameless glass, and quartz surfaces. Throughout, a restrained coastal palette—ivory, driftwood, woven natural materials—lets the ocean stay the focal point.

A couple relocating to Lisbon found a property in a recently upgraded building with open layouts and modernized features. Our studio was entrusted to bring elegant comfort to the interior with carefully curated, custom-designed furniture and decor. From a blank canvas, the home was enlivened with walnut furnishings by Portuguese producers, warm-hued textiles in botanical motifs, and accents of delicate brass lighting.
The entryway leads toward a spacious living room, where hand-woven rugs delineate areas for different activities. The first features a dining collection with upholstered shell chairs that comfortably envelop end-of-evening conversation. Midway, a daybed and display shelving system nestled under the lowered ceiling offer an intimate, yet versatile space. Stepping into the lounge, theatrical curtains reveal the pastel medley of Lisbon’s built landscape, the river, and hills in the distance. The dialogue of the room continues around a multi-tiered center table and featherweight pendant: a Brazilian modernist armchair faces a bespoke tufted-leather sofa, its throw cushions tailored to the palette of the media cabinet.
Outside, the balcony’s slate lacquered dining set caters to convivial meals. Private appreciation is found in a pair of leisurely chairs adjacent to the bedroom, with a side table quoting the terracotta background.
The main suite is endued with a crafted spindle bed dressed in deep blue linens and a lively made-to-measure embroidered bedspread. White Estremoz marble nightstands were designed to organize reading material and provide cable management. Circular ceramic lamps and bedside tables complement an ample upholstered bed to accommodate guests, and a floating console offers a discreet solution for remote meetings.

Set on a narrow lakefront parcel defined by tight setbacks and limited hardscape allowance, this modern cabin demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform restriction into possibility. Carefully composed to preserve privacy while opening fully toward the water, the home feels both expansive and intimate—an elevated retreat grounded in its landscape.
Though modest in footprint, the residence lives generously. Four bedrooms are tucked efficiently within the plan, including a light-filled quilting studio that reflects the homeowners’ creative life. Each bedroom opens onto its own private balcony, offering moments of pause and perspective with views stretching across lake and countryside.
The upper level also includes a family room, providing a quiet gathering space removed from the activity below. From here, the home’s vertical volume becomes apparent, as daylight pours down through a dramatic two-story space framed by glass facing the lake.
At the center of the home, a custom steel-and-wood plank stair acts as both circulation and sculpture. Rising through the double-height volume, it leads the eye upward to a tall Nelson cigar lamp suspended above—an intentional moment of drama and delight.
The main floor is designed around connection and flow. Kitchen, dining, and living areas exist as one continuous space, unified by light, views, and material warmth. A 12-foot-long island anchors the kitchen, serving as the natural gathering place for morning coffee, family meals, and summertime buffet-style entertaining. When fully opened, large folding accordion glass doors dissolve the boundary between inside and out, allowing the screened porch to become a true extension of the living space.
Function is carefully layered throughout the plan. A mudroom entry from the tucked-under two-car garage includes a powder room and utility closet, while a generous entry closet provides essential storage and has been dimensioned to accommodate a future elevator.
Designed intentionally for aging in place, the home incorporates zero-threshold access from the garage, wide halls and doorways, reinforced wall blocking for future grab bars, and infrastructure for a future elevator—ensuring long-term comfort without compromising design.
Clad in dark painted board-and-batten siding, the exterior minimizes visual scale and allows the home to recede quietly into the landscape. Recessed balconies and façade elements are wrapped in warm wood-look siding, adding depth and contrast while bringing warmth into the interior. At night, light spills softly from within, and the cabin glows along the shoreline—welcoming, calm, and enduring.

This intimate bar nook adds a touch of vintage charm to the modern coastal interiors of this Newport rental. Layered greenery, woven textures, and warm lighting create a collected, cozy atmosphere that feels both refined and welcoming—perfect for unwinding after a seaside day.

Our Music Lounge is located on the second floor of a stunning 100+ year-old Tudor-style residence in Hartford, CT—part of the 2025 Junior League of Hartford Designer Show House. When designing the space, we set out to celebrate Connecticut-based female artists. The room began with two key elements: a leafy, organic grasscloth wallpaper by Goshen artist Sarah Von Dreele, and an original painting titled Torch Singer by West Hartford’s Sandy Welch. Sandy’s portrait became the driving inspiration behind the color palette and the mood of the room.
The woman in the painting feels completely at ease—confident, expressive, and immersed in the music. We envisioned a well-traveled couple living here, wanting this space to evoke a cozy Parisian café tucked within their historic home—a moody, romantic retreat layered with stories. Most evenings, we imagine them here, unwinding to vintage records on the gramophone, sipping bourbon hot toddies by candlelight, and dreaming up their next overseas adventure. The room is intimate, eclectic, and richly layered—evoking nostalgia, warmth, and quiet indulgence. If cigarettes were still in fashion, this would be the room to lean back, light up, and lose track of time.

This stunning open-concept dining room is a perfect fusion of warmth, texture, and refined elegance. Anchored by a custom extra-wide wood dining table, the space invites gatherings in a setting that feels both grand and intimate. Sophisticated rattan chairs add a touch of organic charm, complementing the rich wood floors and architectural wood columns. A striking travertine accent wall, featuring a long, linear fireplace, serves as a dramatic focal point, blending natural stone with modern luxury. Overhead, a breathtaking lamp from Apparatus Studio adds sculptural elegance, enhancing the ambiance with its soft, artful glow. Designed within a fully open space, this dining area seamlessly integrates with the home’s surrounding interiors, creating a fluid, inviting atmosphere for both everyday living and entertaining.

In the main bedroom, the design narrative shifts from social vibrancy to intimate tranquility, creating a truly serene sanctuary high above the city. Set against a backdrop of sophisticated textured grasscloth walls, the room is defined by its masterful layering of tactile surfaces and a continued, thoughtful exploration of color.

A family cottage in the Gatineau hills infused with Canadiana shifts its way over the edge of a cliff to command views of the adjacent lake. The retreat is gently embedded in the Canadian Shield; the sleeping quarters firmly set in the rock while the cantilevered family room dramatically emerges from this stone base. The modest entry visible from the road leads to an orchestrated, tranquil path entering from the forest-side of the house and moving through the space as it opens up onto the lakeside.
The house illustrates a warm approach to modernism; white oak boards wrap from wall to floor enhancing the elongated shape of the house and slabs of silver maple create the bathroom vanity. On the exterior, the main volume is wrapped with open-joint eastern white cedar while the stairwell is encased in steel; both are left unfinished to age with the elements.
On the lower level, the dormitory style sleeping quarters are again embedded into the rock. Access to the exterior is provided by a walkout from the lower level recreation room, allowing the family to easily explore nature.
Natural cooling is provided by cool air rising from the lake, passing in through the lakeside openings and out through the clerestory windows on the forest elevation. The expanse of windows engages the ephemeral foliage from the treetops to the forest floor. The softness and shadows of the filtered forest light fosters an intimate relationship between the exterior and the interior.

A second-level terrace designed as a seamless extension of the interior living space. Defined by clean lines, warm wood tones, and expansive glass, the space feels open yet intimate. Soft, neutral furnishings contrast with the architectural structure, creating a balanced and inviting atmosphere. Surrounded by greenery and natural light, this terrace offers a calm, elevated setting for both relaxation and entertaining.

Imagine stepping into a cozy living room, where a warm gas fireplace casts a soft glow against the walls, creating an inviting atmosphere. Elegant chandeliers hang from the ceiling, their sparkling crystals adding a touch of sophistication to the space. Plush furnishings invite you to sink in and unwind, while the flickering flames of the fireplace dance in the background. It's a perfect setting for intimate gatherings or quiet evenings spent in comfort and luxury.

The dining area is a stylish yet inviting space that epitomises elegance and functionality. A round dining table, chic in its design, provides seating for four and serves as the perfect setting for intimate meals or relaxed gatherings. Dual-aspect sea views enhance the sense of openness, creating a dining experience that feels both luxurious and tranquil.
Adding to its refined aesthetic, carefully curated artwork with a striking red acrylic frame graces the space, perfectly complementing the red marble trim on the original flooring. This thoughtful detail ties together the interior design and adds a subtle vibrancy. The colour palette of the artwork echoes the hues of Villefranche’s architecture—pastels, reds, beiges, coral, pink, and orange—creating a visual connection to the town’s charming surroundings. These considered elements make the dining area an inspired space to enjoy the Mediterranean’s beauty and warmth.

This serene living room showcases a circular seating arrangement of white swivel chairs with soft blue accent pillows, creating an intimate conversation area that takes full advantage of the stunning Choctawhatchee Bay views. Exposed wood beams add warmth overhead while floor-to-ceiling windows and French doors flood the space with natural light and frame the waterfront vista. The neutral palette with coastal blue touches reflects the tranquil bay setting just beyond the terrace.
