This is a rear yard landscape in Old Town, Chicago. The major defining element that we designed and build was the Ipe deck. The design and installation of the deck allowed for functional use and unobstructed views out to the landscape. The deck is blind fastened and the railings are stainless steel cable with ipe caps. The fence is completely rebuilt using cedar.. There is a decorative screen next to the planter boxes, which helps to bring down the scale of the neighboring house. The patio is travertine laid in a random pattern, and continues underneath the elevated deck. We added a mexican pebble bed on the edge of the patio which will help show a future sculpture/art piece. A stone walkway at the edge of the patio leads under the canopy of the upright trees, to access to the doorway that is underneath the deck. The landscape consists of two types of ground cover. The inner circle is a lower, purple-leafed, ajuga, and the outer edge is pachysandra. The fence and deck posts have climbing hydrangea planted underneath which will eventually grow to cover the vertical elements.

Island Mist decking by Trex is a gorgeous gray and black wood grain low-maintenance deck. The modern look that is complimented by the wood grain streaking makes for a gorgeous low-maintenance deck. With such a modern deck paired a with traditional brick home a perfect contrast is created between complimenting colors and contrasting design styles. Making this traditional brick home more modern and matching the roofing, a cohesive one of a kind look is created. By adding the Island Mist to the top of the deck railing the modern look is carried through even the railings of this gorgeous Mooresville deck.

These homeowners wanted to create the outdoor living space of their dreams at their beautiful home in Black Forest. They had an older wood deck that was functional but needed to be replaced. Living in the forest, they knew they wanted to build using a steel deck frame and composite decking. A steel deck frame offers greater strength in elevated decks and is also a non-combustible material with a Class 1A fire rating. For decking material, the owners chose to use Fiberon Pro-Tect Chestnut. The railing is custom-built in steel with a white powder-coating and horizontal balusters. We also built a gabled deck cover with a vaulted ceiling in tongue and groove pine. The ceiling includes recessed lighting and is Blue Pine with a transparent stain. The Trex RainEscape under deck drainage system installed before the decking has a flat ceiling that matches the deck cover. By using the Trex system, the homeowners have created another large outdoor living space. The deck cover was built to look original to the home.

We redesigned the lower level under the stairway area so that they can use that for a sitting area. We installed metal ceiling panels under the deck area so that they have a dry space under the deck which allows them to use the space even while its raining. The existing concrete slab beneath the deck area was removed, and we installed new stamped and colored concrete under the new area. To finish it off, we also installed the same stamped and colored concrete out in the driveway as needed.

This gorgeous open porch design is brought to life with low-maintenance TimberTech Terrain decking in Silver Maple, which beautifully complements the home’s exterior finish! The steps are matching TimberTech product with riser lights. The railing is also a low-maintenance vinyl and powder coated aluminum combined with a TimberTech top rail, which will have this family enjoying their space – not performing yearly maintenance! The substantial stacked stone columns are the shining stars of this covered porch design in beautiful muted grey and brown tones. We provided matching roofing and siding on the exterior of the gable, so the new porch appears an original extension of the home – not an afterthought.
