This transitional-style kitchen revels in sophistication and practicality. The large center island and bar hutch, in a contrasting dark stained walnut, offer space for seating and entertaining, as well as adding creative and useful features, such as walnut pull-out serving trays. Light colored quartz countertops offer sophistication, as well as practical durability. The white lotus-design backsplash from Artistic Tile lends an understated drama, creating the perfect backdrop for the Bakes & Kropp custom range hood in walnut and stainless steel. Two-toned panels conceal the refrigerator to continue the room's polished look. This kitchen is perfectly practical luxury in every way!

One of the key challenges in this project was ensuring the new breakfast nook felt original to the home. The clients wanted it to blend seamlessly with their existing kitchen, which meant sourcing the exact materials used in a previous remodel. From cabinetry to finishes, every detail had to match precisely to create a cohesive, timeless look—so it felt like the nook had always been there.

A gorgeous kitchen remodeled from a builder’s basic, incorporating a palette of bright blue, soft grey and pops of warm copper. As a multi-generational home, it was really important to create smooth transitions, allowing ease of accessibility, and the client’s favourite colour, blue! We started, with removing a wall in the kitchen, that opened up the space to the much-used family room. We created an island with overhang for conversations with the cook, and a rest stop for Grandma. As all three adults have different dietary demands, a set of wall ovens was added, and a commercial grade range hood for lots of yummy food prep. Additional functional design features a new built-in buffet with storage, and a window bench seat. By adding a pendant light over the kitchen table, along with the beautiful big window, this space has been lovingly updated, showcasing the family’s personality and has now earned the most popular spot in the house. Inspiration for the kitchen draws from the client’s eclectic, cosmopolitan style and the industrial 1920s. There is a French gas range in Delft Blue by LaCanche and antiques which double as prep spaces and storage. Custom-made, ceiling mounted open shelving with steel frames and reclaimed wood are practical and show off favorite serve-ware. A small bank of lower cabinets house small appliances and large pots between the kitchen and mudroom. Light reflects off the paneled ceiling and Florence Broadhurst wallpaper at the far wall.

The owners of this 1894 historic farmhouse wanted to restore the original character and charm to their home. To achieve this, the house received a new kitchen and bathrooms, as well as being rewired and replumbed, all with an eye to bringing back the details of this wonderful home. The home’s large kitchen was underutilized and housed a non-functioning fireplace. The fireplace was removed and the kitchen received new white-painted wood custom cabinets with shaker style doors and beadboard details around the island. To achieve a similar look to soapstone, honed black granite countertops were used to accentuate the period of the home. New wood windows were installed in place of aluminum and a new entry to the kitchen was created using the existing pantry, complete with beadboard paneling and bench seat for shoe storage. Our highest priority was preserving all of the unique features of the home, and incorporating some new features like the linen closet/pass-through between the Dining Room and Kitchen.

This brownstone, located in Harlem, consists of five stories which had been duplexed to create a two story rental unit and a 3 story home for the owners. The owner hired us to do a modern renovation of their home and rear garden. The garden was under utilized, barely visible from the interior and could only be accessed via a small steel stair at the rear of the second floor. We enlarged the owner’s home to include the rear third of the floor below which had walk out access to the garden. The additional square footage became a new family room connected to the living room and kitchen on the floor above via a double height space and a new sculptural stair. The rear facade was completely restructured to allow us to install a wall to wall two story window and door system within the new double height space creating a connection not only between the two floors but with the outside. The garden itself was terraced into two levels, the bottom level of which is directly accessed from the new family room space, the upper level accessed via a few stone clad steps. The upper level of the garden features a playful interplay of stone pavers with wood decking adjacent to a large seating area and a new planting bed. Wet bar cabinetry at the family room level is mirrored by an outside cabinetry/grill configuration as another way to visually tie inside to out. The second floor features the dining room, kitchen and living room in a large open space. Wall to wall builtins from the front to the rear transition from storage to dining display to kitchen; ending at an open shelf display with a fireplace feature in the base. The third floor serves as the children’s floor with two bedrooms and two ensuite baths. The fourth floor is a master suite with a large bedroom and a large bathroom bridged by a walnut clad hall that conceals a closet system and features a built in desk. The master bath consists of a tiled partition wall dividing the space to create a large walkthrough shower for two on one side and showcasing a free standing tub on the other. The house is full of custom modern details such as the recessed, lit handrail at the house’s main stair, floor to ceiling glass partitions separating the halls from the stairs and a whimsical builtin bench in the entry.
