Our journey with the Capilano Project clients began nearly two years ago when we were brought in on the project by TQ Construction. The clients were looking for authentic marble and natural stone elements throughout their home. They had an earthy and rustic yet eclectic and playful style. We couldn’t resist such an interesting concept and knew wehad to be a part of it.Throughout the home you’ll find materials like marble, Quartzite, copper, brass and wrought iron, concrete style countertops, tiles, and beautiful engineered hardwood providing a warm textured base. We loved working on this project, the clients were so involved and open in the design process providing inspiration and recommendations that really hit themark.
In the kitchen, we kept the millwork design on the back wall as minimal and complimentary as possible. By pairing white painted flat door cabinets, concrete style countertops & backsplash topped off with an accent of dark stained oak on the upper cabinets and range hood, we were able to achieve the perfect backdrop for the main event…the island! This island packs a punch! Not only aesthetically, but literally…there’s a hidden beverage center in there…with punch! Anyways, this island is equipped with a hammered copper apron front sink, undercabinet microwave drawer, integrated dishwasher, pull-out beverage fridge and freezer below, along with concealed storage under the countertop bar overhang. To say we maximized the space is an understatement. The countertop at the island is natural stone “Fusion Red” quartzite. A showstopper and conversation piece, no doubt. When the clients saw this slab of stone, they knew we had to have it. This stone countertop influenced the entire colour scheme for the kitchen. It features rusty red, orange, greige and blue hues which we carefully incorporated in all accents throughout the space including the island millwork itself.

The existing, builder-grade, kitchen was not functional, as it was poorly lit, much needed storage space was underutilized, and un-safe, as the microwave was hung over the sink, causing the homeowners to hit their heads while working at the sink. Being a unit in an historic building, I was unable to move any of the existing plumbing & electrical, but could add to, as we did with the recessed and under cabinet LED lighting, I moved the microwave to a safe location, off of the counter and next to the refrigerator, and took the cabinetry to the ceiling, gaining an additional 12" of vertical storage along the main wall of the kitchen. Due to a supply vent being on the wall above the refrigerator, we had to get creative in how we brought it through the crown molding build-up, which led to a custom vent cover, that was designed and then fabricated to fit perfectly. This kitchen is packed with details that all came together to create a stunning, yet functional, new kitchen.

THIS MASTERPIECE WAS FORMULATED WITH ONE THING IN MIND : FAMILY! THIS BEAUTIFUL SPACE HAS A GREAT OPEN CONCEPT FROM THE FRONT DOOR TO THE FIREPLACE. WE WERE ABLE TO REINVENT THE SPACE BY KNOCKING DOWN TWO WALLS AND REALLY STRIPPING ALL THE ELECTRICAL AND PLUMBING FROM THE WALLS. THE CLIENTS WERE VERY HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS. THE SLIDING DOORS WERE A STRUCTUAL CHANGE AND THE ISLAND WAS ALSO A HUGE HIT FOR THE CLIENTS. ALL ISNTALLATIONS FO LIGHTING WINDOWS DOORS CABINETS FLOORING AND EVEN THE LAUNDRY AND BATHROOM WERE ALL DONE BY VHRCA INC AND VHRCA DESIGNS

A sheet of green teal glass for the backsplash makes for a wonderful focal point in this open kitchen. The natural and pendant light reflected from the wall adds to the spaciousness. To see the full story on this remodel, hit on the link below.

When a young professional couple approached us to decorate the main floor of their brand new modern townhouse in Port Coquitlam, we were very excited. Having moved from a Gastown condo, the couple was eager to infuse this suburban location with a funky yet sophisticated downtown vibe. They were also looking for a neutral backdrop with some hits of colour and asked us to incorporate wallpaper. The statement artwork that we selected above the fireplace set the tone for this project. We started with a pair of sleek neutral leather sofas to maximize seating in the small living space and layered them with a variety of toss pillows in blues, teals & turquoise then added a few pops of orange. We defined the front entrance and dining area with a stunning marbleized grey and white wallpaper by Graham and Brown. The dark wood furniture in the dining area adds contrast and sophistication balancing the dark stained kitchen cabinets opposite. The resulting look is clean, modern and playful. A place where we gather to chat, drink wine, do homework, even cook sometimes ... a kitchen. Or, the core of a house - one place that is never avoided by any dweller.
In this modern kitchen, with a farm house twist, I played with textures more than colors. White palette with grey tones are softened by green stools, a sisal rug and Turkish towels. Natural flowers are never a bad idea (daisies hit the spot for me this morning). Textured quartz on the island really made a difference in this space. It bonded the floor and counter top through these organic textures and wave-like ripples. A really interesting way to unify the hard and solid surfaces. The sheepskin completed the farm house look and maybe even gave it a Nordic feel. Welcome!

As with many homes, a lack of useful closet space was a real problem for these homeowners. After the decision to build an addition for a closet was made, the design of the master bathroom was next. New vanities, granite countertops, mirrors, and tile flooring were changed to match the level of the new closet.
Upon completion of the master suite the homeowners were left to ponder updating the kitchen. With new cabinets, countertops, and a modern feel the kitchen is a big hit. Features include knotty alder cabinetry, a custom range hood. The final hurdle was the fireplace, after simplifying the design of the built-ins a elegant tile was installed with a floating mantle.
After going through a large portion of this main floor, creating storage solutions and modernizing the feel of the space it left us to now wonder, what’s next?

This gorgeous property just hit the market. I love the vaulted ceilings and original entranceway.
Rather than sell this home without furniture, we brought all the accessories and furniture in to help purchasers feel at home as they imagine their own furniture in the spaces. Generally, homes with open concepts are more difficult for buyers to separate the living areas if they do not see actual furniture in the space.

A unique take on a modern Floridian style kitchen with a punch of color. The handmade green glass tiles by Trend Group were the driving force in this remodel. We were required to keep the sink and dishwasher in their original location. But we moved the stove from the left of the refrigerator, to the newly expanded island creating an oversized workspace. The clients love to socialize and by moving the stove, allowed for conversations to not be strained when someone is cooking. Our clients originally only fit 2 bar stools at the island. But once we doubled it in size, we were able to fit 4 bar stools and centralize the conversation area in this open concept design. The Cambria Annicca countertop is the piece de resistance adding a lot of flare o the space with its purple and gold detailing, complimenting the green backsplash. ARS fabricators hit a home run with the outstanding job they did on the gorgeous waterfall sides. Besides the kitchen, we also replaced all of the flooring throughout the home.

Clean white counters illuminated by glass pendants continues the light bouncing from surface to surface. To see the full story on this remodel, hit on the link below.
