ForeverLawn, Inc.A backyard full of rocks and gravel doesn’t mix well with dogs, as evidenced by Doom and Goomba who would previously just lay around all day to avoid the uncomfortable backyard surface at this San Diego residence. As soon as the 780 square feet of K9Grass® by ForeverLawn® synthetic grass was installed by the ForeverLawn Pacific Coast team, the dogs were out running around and playing ball with their best friend Ebby, a bulldog who now comes over to play throughout the week. Not only has K9Grass dog turf transformed this backyard, but it has also transformed the overall activity level and happiness of these dogs now that they have a soft, comfortable space to run, play, and do their business. After the project was completed, the owner of this San Diego home said, “I am so thankful we were able to find a product that made our dogs like to play outside again and could be used with the rocks and gravel already in our backyard. Thank you guys so much!”

Lundin Architects LLCPerched on a ridge at the edge of a wooded expanse, this mid-century modern home was designed to embrace both the intimate connection to the forest and the expansive valley views beyond. The site—carefully chosen from the family’s 52-acre homestead in western Wisconsin—balances privacy and openness, placing the home at the meeting point of dense trees and rolling fields.
The approach winds through the forest, offering only glimpses of the structure. Upon arrival, the parking area is subtly positioned below the main level, reinforcing the sense of discovery. As one ascends the entry walk, the house unfolds, revealing a dramatic view through the two-story living space, anchored by a brick fireplace that extends from floor to ceiling. The asymmetrical roofline lifts upward, accentuating the openness and maximizing natural light.
Inside, warm materials define the interiors. Wood ceilings and floors, complemented by concrete-look tile, establish a natural, grounded aesthetic. Black wood-clad beams provide scale and structure, subtly delineating spaces within the open-plan layout. A wood lattice screen partially conceals the dining area from the foyer, offering both openness and privacy. The kitchen—designed for gathering—features a large island, a dedicated baking station, and a breakfast counter that catches morning light while serving as a pass-through to the adjacent patio. Two textured glass sliding panels allow the kitchen to be closed off when needed. Just beyond, a hidden gem: the home’s personal Tiki room, complete with a vintage mug collection and a full bar.
To the east, the central fireplace marks the transition to more intimate spaces. The Cabinet Store + Culina DesignThese homeowners already had a finished basement, but found that they didn’t utilize the space well. Other than as a play area for the kids, the large space wasn’t welcoming for entertaining.
Already happy with previous service they’d received from The Cabinet Store (laundry room cabinet storage!) they turned to us to help them give their basement a “grown-up feel.” Though they already had a large TV and some sitting furniture, the room needed an entertaining area.
Here’s what we accomplished (see the photos below):
We designed two bar areas for them, using cabinetry from our Countryside Cabinetry line – affordable and attractive.
The cabinet doors are the Lancaster style in Birch with a Brownberry stain.
We used a combination of flat center panel doors and beaded center panel doors to jazz it up.
We also installed brand new Cambria (color Buckingham) on all the countertop surfaces.
The homeowners (and all their friends!) love the new basement. And though it seems contrary, we’re not surprised that everyone tells them the room feels so much bigger even though we’ve added cabinetry and countertops to the space – if you use space well a room always seems more inviting. Best of all, this family is finally making great use of their basement!

A small residential, seaside property located on Fairfield Beach, Fairfield was renovated by the new owners and adapted for their active family. Barbara was the landscape architect in charge of all of the landscape elements upgrades. She designed new bluestone curving paths to access the front and side doors and designed new landscape lighting to enhance the walks. The existing trees were saved and she designed new shade and salt-tolerant plantings which were added to provide seasonal color and interest while respecting the existing plantings. Along the beach front additional native beach grasses were added to stabilize the dunes while removing some invasive plantings. This work will be phased over the next few years in an effort to keep the sand stable. Beach roses were incorporated into a hollow in the dunes. A small lawn area was renovated and the surrounding Black Pines pruned to provide a small play area and respite from the sun. Beautiful reblooming hydrangeas line the edge of the gravel driveway. Rounded beach stones were used instead of mulch in the island planting along the edge of the adjacent road planted with Miscanthus, Mugo pine and yucca.
Barbara designed a custom kayak rack, custom garbage enclosure, a new layout of the existing wooden deck to facilitate access to the side doors, and detailed how to renovate the front door into only an emergency access with new railings and steps.
She coordinating obtaining bids and then supervised the installation of all elements for the new landscape the project.
The interiors were designed by Jack Montgomery Design of Greenwich, CT and NYC . Tree work was completed by Bartlett Tree Experts. Freddy’s Landscape Company of Fairfield, CT installed the new plantings, installed all the new masonry work and provides landscape maintenance services. JT Low Voltage and Electric installed the landscape lighting.
