Our clients wanted to add on to their 1950's ranch house, but weren't sure whether to go up or out. We convinced them to go out, adding a Primary Suite addition with bathroom, walk-in closet, and spacious Bedroom with vaulted ceiling. To connect the addition with the main house, we provided plenty of light and a built-in bookshelf with detailed pendant at the end of the hall. The clients' style was decidedly peaceful, so we created a wet-room with green glass tile, a door to a small private garden, and a large fir slider door from the bedroom to a spacious deck. We also used Yakisugi siding on the exterior, adding depth and warmth to the addition. Our clients love using the tub while looking out on their private paradise!

Jargon 101: Typically nickel gap is a shiplap pattern. For Kelly we went with a tongue and groove pattern. We milled a micro bevel or micro V to get the shadow line but the fact that it was Tongue and Groove allowed her builder to hide the nail during installation which creates a cleaner finished look. ********************************************************************* Transitional open living room featuring white painted wood paneling and medium hardwood floors. Spanish Classic Linen Colored dining room with upholstered dining chairs. A clean, contemporary white palette in this traditional Spanish Style home in Santa Barbara, California. Soft greys, beige, cream colored fabrics, hand knotted rugs and quiet light walls show off the beautiful thick arches between the living room and dining room. Stained wood beams, wrought iron lighting, and carved limestone fireplaces give a soft, comfortable feel for this summer home by the Pacific Ocean. White linen drapes with grass shades give warmth and texture to the great room. Linoleum tile is a very "green" product -- made from linseed oil, and no petroleum products or chemicals, with no bad environmental impact at all! This is not vinyl tile -- it's real linoleum, and easy to clean.

Creating an inviting, comfortable spot in your home for overnight guests can be tricky. While some homeowners dedicate a spare bedroom for this occasional use, others opt to utilize space in a basement or room over the garage. When the team at Legum Design in Bend, Oregon, was tapped to create guest space for a client’s home in nearby Tumalo, their starting point was a 100-year-old barn.
