The owners of this property had been away from the Bay Area for many years, and looked forward to returning to an elegant mid-century modern house. The one they bought was anything but that. Faced with a “remuddled” kitchen from one decade, a haphazard bedroom / family room addition from another, and an otherwise disjointed and generally run-down mid-century modern house, the owners asked Klopf Architecture and Envision Landscape Studio to re-imagine this house and property as a unified, flowing, sophisticated, warm, modern indoor / outdoor living space for a family of five. Opening up the spaces internally and from inside to out was the first order of business. The formerly disjointed eat-in kitchen with 7 foot high ceilings were opened up to the living room, re-oriented, and replaced with a spacious cook's kitchen complete with a row of skylights bringing light into the space. Adjacent the living room wall was completely opened up with La Cantina folding door system, connecting the interior living space to a new wood deck that acts as a continuation of the wood floor. People can flow from kitchen to the living / dining room and the deck seamlessly, making the main entertainment space feel at once unified and complete, and at the same time open and limitless. Klopf opened up the bedroom with a large sliding panel, and turned what was once a large walk-in closet into an office area, again with a large sliding panel. The master bathroom has high windows all along one wall to bring in light, and a large wet room area for the shower and tub. The dark, solid roof structure over the patio was replaced with an open trellis that allows plenty of light, brightening the new deck area as well as the interior of the house. All the materials of the house were replaced, apart from the framing and the ceiling boards. This allowed Klopf to unify the materials from space to space, running the same wood flooring throughout, using the same paint colors, and generally creating a consistent look from room to room. Located in Lafayette, CA this remodeled single-family house is 3,363 square foot, 4 bedroom, and 3.5 bathroom. When a large family renovated a home nestled in the foothills of the Santa Cruz mountains, all bathrooms received dazzling upgrades and this master bathroom was no exception. The spacious room faces a private yard with an abundance of greenery and views of the foothills, so I chose light, cool colors and organic materials to reference the beauty just outside. We chose an elegantly curved freestanding bath tub which echoes the beautiful, sinuous twists of the tub filler and sink faucets. I worked with my client to create a massive steam shower lined with porcelain tile that mimics marble, a much more durable and steam-friendly material than porous marble. A grand custom vanity spans one half of the bathroom and features a seated make-up area. For the vanity lighting, my client fell in love with pendants that look as if they are faceted jewels. A farmhouse style was achieved in this new construction home by keeping the details clean and simple. Shaker style cabinets and square stair parts moldings set the backdrop for incorporating our clients’ love of Asian antiques. We had fun re-purposing the different pieces she already had: two were made into bathroom vanities; and the turquoise console became the star of the house, welcoming visitors as they walk through the front door.

A beautifully remodeled primary bathroom ensuite inspired by the homeowner’s European travels. This spacious bathroom was dated and had a cold cave like shower. The homeowner desired a beautiful space with a European feel, like the ones she discovered on her travels to Europe. She also wanted a privacy door separating the bathroom from her bedroom. The designer opened up the closed off shower by removing the soffit and dark cabinet next to the shower to add glass and let light in. Now the entire room is bright and airy with marble look porcelain tile throughout. The archway was added to frame in the under-mount tub. The double vanity in a soft gray paint and topped with Corian Quartz compliments the marble tile. The new chandelier along with the chrome fixtures add just the right amount of luxury to the room. Now when you come in from the bedroom you are enticed to come in and stay a while in this beautiful space.

I designed the spa master bath to provide a calming oasis by using a blend of marble tile, concrete counter tops, chrome, crystal and a refurbished antique claw foot tub.

We completely gut renovated this pre-war Tribeca apartment but kept some of it's charm and history in tact! The building, which was built in the early 1900's, was home to different executive office operations and the original hallways had a beautiful and intricate mosaic floor pattern. To that point we decided to preserve the existing mosaic flooring and incorporate it into the new design. The open concept kitchen with cantilevered dining table top keeps the area feeling light and bright, casual and not stuffy. Additionally, the custom designed swing arm pendant light helps marry the dining table top area to that of the island.

The shower includes dual shower areas, four body spray tiles (two on each side) and a large glass surround keeping the uncluttered theme for the room while still offering privacy with an etched “belly band” around the perimeter. The etching is only on the outside of the glass with the inside being kept smooth for cleaning purposes. The end result is a bathroom that is luxurious and light, with nothing extraneous to distract the eye. The peaceful and quiet ambiance that the room exudes hit exactly the mark that the clients were looking for.

Simplicity, Calming, Contemporary and easy to clean were all adjectives the home owners wanted to see in their new Master Bathroom remodel. A oversized Jacuzzi tub was removed to create a very large walk in shower with a wet and dry zone. Corner benches were added for seating along with a niche for toiletries. The new vanity has plenty of storage capacity. The chrome fixtures coordinate with the mirrors and vanity lights to create a contemporary and relaxing Master Bathroom.

This West University Master Bathroom remodel was quite the challenge. Our design team rework the walls in the space along with a structural engineer to create a more even flow. In the begging you had to walk through the study off master to get to the wet room. We recreated the space to have a unique modern look. The custom vanity is made from Tree Frog Veneers with countertops featuring a waterfall edge. We suspended overlapping circular mirrors with a tiled modular frame. The tile is from our beloved Porcelanosa right here in Houston. The large wall tiles completely cover the walls from floor to ceiling . The freestanding shower/bathtub combination features a curbless shower floor along with a linear drain. We cut the wood tile down into smaller strips to give it a teak mat affect. The wet room has a wall-mount toilet with washlet. The bathroom also has other favorable features, we turned the small study off the space into a wine / coffee bar with a pull out refrigerator drawer.

In this master bathroom addition, R. B.
